: Young female Great Dane in Local Shelter
: bigdogs@5501 September 06, 2006, 12:27:30 PM
Any one interested? Looks like she has until the 9th before they euthanize. I would be more than happy to pay for the adoption and pull her if someone will give her a home. I can even start the transport in just about any direction from the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. Heres the link.
My personal cell phone number is 214-724-0856.
I would pull her and keep her if it I could- I just cant, but dont want to see her put to sleep either.

There is also another number of a gentleman who will help and could be at the shelter when they open. IF this link doesnt work let me know and I will figure out what I did wrong.

There are two great danes in that shelter, a male and a female. It says they are both very thin.

THAT SUCKS SO BAD. I wish I could do something to help.

WHY WHY WHY do people get animals and then abandon them?????? :'( :'( :'(

If we can find a way to get her to them- I will go and get her. Anyone out there that can help? I could probably even keep her a few days until some thing is worked out - but would have to get her moving before too long- Where does your friend live? Please feel free to call my cell phone 214-724-0856 ( it is giving out on me, but I would find a way to make it work) or call me at my office at 866-473-3828, it is toll free.

She will not be euthanized, neither will her brother. I have committed to going and getting them if they are not pulled by an adoptive family or a rescue group. They will call me instead of euthanizing them. So that problem is resolved- Now getting one or both to New York- We would have to work a bit on that issue. Either way the dogs will either be adopted out or here at my house within the next week.Again, my only concern, my male Dane is a major Alpha. So I would have to keep them seperated. Also these guys are not neutered/spayed. Not sure if that is included in the adoption fee. Texas Law requires that any shelter dog that is adopted be spayed/neutered, but it doesnt matter which state it is done in, as long as we can prove it has been done. Also, there will be a 30 day insurance policy with the dogs, I think, thru Shelter Care. So far though, the info I have gathered is that they are healthy, just really skinny. They were picked up as strays. Looking for food.

I could probably help with fostering one or the other as long as they are relatively kitty proof.  I am in Houston so we would have to make connections South and then get them back up North if headed to NY.  You can PM me if you need to.

Thank You so much, I may even have someone in Austin that will take one. I am hopefully getting a new cell phone tomorrow with really good messaging capabilities and will be able to email very easily. Again, Thanks so much. I just hate that there was even the possibility of them being euthanized. We could probably meet somewhere in the middle if we have to, oh and I have I said thanks enough? I really mean it...

If someone can go and personally evaluate the male, I would be willing to maybe take the male and pay for his transport here, but I really need someone to evaluate him, let me know his age and temperment as best they can.
I would also need someone to hold him for transport which could be for up to a month away.
Ron Keener is making a trip in Oct. Not sure which part of Oct he starts. Need more info to even consider it.

I'd be willing to foster one or both but we'd have to get them over to AL...

Cricket, if they can get the male to you and you can evaluate him with your other dogs and the cats to see how he does, as long as he doesn't eat my cats  :o he has a home. I'll pay for Ron to bring him to me.
Hubby and I already decided we wanted another but needs to be a male, I want Niki to be the only female, females seem much more dominate. I know Mozart would get along with anyone, he's such a gentleman. Let me know.

We wanted another male something but after much discussion decided against anything with long hair. So a Dane it is and a Newfie or Saint is ain't  ;)

Sorry that it is so late. Heres the update. I pick up both the male and the female in the morning at 10AM. I tried to get there this afternoon and couldnt make it before they closed. I have been in contact with the shelter all day today. There was a lady interested in the male- but she decided against him because he is too timid acting. I have no idea if these are calm dogs, freaked out dogs etc. I have gone tonight and bought collars for them and we will be making a folder of all of thier records that will be started while they are in my care. I will post pictures tomorrow. I have to drive about 75 minutes to the location where they are at, again, feel free to call me on my cell phone at any time tomorrow and maybe I will have some more answers. I have discovered that the male is a brindle and the female is the black with the white on her chest. I just cant tell you guys too much more until I have them with me tomorrow.

WooHoo !!!

Just talked to bigdog, if the male doesn't eat Bigdogs cats then the male has a wonderful home here and our family will be complete.

I see BigDog hasn't had time to post but to let you all know she has the Danes pulled and with her.
They sound like they have had a heck of a not so great life.
Seems the male is older than the shelter estimated and real small
maybe 28 inches and 87 lbs :o

It has been a long day. I will post pics of the male, first and then the female ( I am on a dial up- ugh)The male is about 29 inches, weighs 87 pounds and is at least 3 years old. Extremely skinny. I can see his ribs and the vertebrae in his back ( same with the female) I dont think that they are related as she seems to have a larger skeletal system and just doesnt really resemble him at all. I can happily report, they are wonderful sweet dogs. The male doesnt seem to even acknowledge the cat, even those she hissed at him. He was interested in the african grey parrot- but only temporarily. They are house broken. When I got there- they had the tag on the front of their cage with todays date as the euthanasia date,so I am glad that they are here. The third pic is my male and the male rescue. In person, Jake looks like a giant compared to the rescue male.

I like Oliver too! But my name that I've come up with is Trooper. After all he's been through and he's still such a sweetie, he's a real trooper.
