What happens after a surgery like that? Does she stay off it for a while, which I guess is impossible, or get up and start moving around?

it's 30 days of limited movement because scar tissue needs to form around the new ligament.  no jumping, no playing, no nothing.  Leashing walking to potty only.   She won't feel much like doing anything for that 30 days, so it's not a big deal.  the first 2 weeks is crucial since the incision is healing. In about 4 weeks, she'll toy with the idea of doing more and getting back to normal.  Basically, it's 2 to 4 months of learning to walk and getting the leg back in shape.  after 2 months we get to walk 5 minutes a day and increase that by 5 minutes each week till the muscle is back to normal.  in about 4 months, she'll be back to her old self.

Wow..that's quite a recuperation. I hope everything goes perfectly, and then it will be spring. That's a lovely time to start moving around again.

it is.  She likes to have this done when the snow gets to be 10 feet deep though.  It's hard to get around in the snow right now and will be tough when the ice comes, but she managed tonight pretty well.  At least I'm not completely ruining her summer.

Oh Lin...poor Grace, poor mom!
I feel much sympathy for both of you. Ashley had both legs done, and it wasn't easy either time, but, like with Grace, we do what we have to do.  :-\

Take good care of the pretty lady and take good care of yourself as well.

Big hugs, and only the best thoughts for the fastest, best recoup period on record!  :-*  :-*  :-*

The close up shots make me want to gently grab her face and kiss it.. :-*  :-*  :-*  :-*

Awww poor sweet Grace, give her some snuggles and kisses from us.
I'm sorry it will be such a long recovery, but happy she finally got it done so eventually she'll be back to a bouncing active puppy without any pain.
Since she doesn't get to go out on her walks now you may have to go and look around for all the goodies she liked to find and bring her binkies, balloons, shoes, etc. I don't think new toys are the same for her, she probably likes them previously used by other people.

Thanks for asking!  Grace is doing well.  Yes, she's miffed about not being about to jump onto the bed or couch for 30 days and not being able to run in the snow.  We are both camping out on the pile of pillows on the living room floor.  It's only fair to her that I am camping out with her.  The downside is that she is up at 4 am in the mornings now waking me with a shrill whine at the bedroom door, which I have closed.  She really misses her bed.
Her incision is scabbing up nicely.  There are under the skin and desolvable staples with skin glue holding the incision together.  No going back in 2 weeks to have staples removed.
Her appetite is remarkable.  She loves her new food, but hates not getting people food.  It does smell awful coming back out from either end.  The gas is really bad. And she is toying with the idea of putting weight on her leg already.  She's perky and has a great attitude.  Tomorrow might be different since I have to leave home to work tomorrow.  On the upside, it's going to be one of those weeks where I don't have to leave home often.
Overall, this time has been better.  Maybe it's because she is an ole pro at ACL surgery or maybe it's because she knows she'll feel a lot better after this is all over.

Thank goodness things are going ok. Your camping looks cozy and sweet. I look forward to the day I can lie on the floor with Luke without him stepping on my head.

Good to hear from you.

Camping isn't so bad.  But I too look forward to the day when I can sleep with this dog without getting kicked in the head.  :)  I've gotten a few battle wounds this week.   That head of hers is really hard.

thanks!  that dog is going to drive me nuts.  She bolted out of her cage to get her cone off this morning when I got home from working and then RAN outside where she spun and jumpped in the snow.  I'mrunning behind her telling her to stop and walk slowly.  Now she's boycotting going potty.  We can't wait till this 30 days is over.
