NDR: Smashed up my van yesterday
« on: September 27, 2006, 05:15:42 am »
No one was hurt and thank God my kids were not with me.

It was all my fault. Improper left turn. I thought all the cars had come past (there was another vehicle across from me also making a left turn). I was turning and a small pickup truck hit me square in the passenger side of my minivan.

It is being appraissed today but I assume it will be a write off as the support between the passenger side door and the sliding door is bent. The truck has minimal damage.

The driver of the truck was not hurt and turned out to be a long time friend of the family (and also works at the same place as I do). Instead of yelling and screaming at me........he gave me a hug - what I needed most in the world at that moment.

No one was hurt physically but I'm an emotional wreck! I'm still crying.  I'm such an idiot!

YOU ARE NOT AN IDIOT!!  At intersections like that it's always confusing to know who has the right of way, since you are both crossing traffic!!  Good thing no one was hurt and like you said instead of screaming you got a hug!!  That counts for something!  Deep breaths!
God placed me on this earth to accomplish certain tasks...I'm so far behind I'll never die!!

Wow, thank goodness it was a long-time friend of the family! People can be so vicious when it comes to car accidents...I've seen fistfights break out over scratches and dings!

Glad to hear you're okay, and like someone said, you're not an idiot! I've had so many close calls in situations like that!

Glad you are ok.  I trashed my SUV on the way back from a dog show in March.  It was just me and Dixie but we were both ok. I still have some bad dreams about it.

sooooooo glad nobody was hurt! That is the most important thing!

And too look on the bright side.... you re-connected with an old family friend.... though I am sure you would have preferred it to be over a cup of coffee.  :)

You are sooo lucky!!!  about 2 weeks ago, I saw someone get hit making a left turn up from my house, the road is horrible, and we really need a light... the wreck was disastrous..a van got t-boned by a sport utility vehical... the lady died after having to be taken off life support a week later, from massive brain injury...the van rolled a few times.. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt. I can say that was the worst thing I have ever seen or even imagioned seeing...sad thing is, this wasn't the first death on this road...and it probably wont be the last if we don't get a light.

I'm so glad you are okay... my heart go's out to you, its a scary thing.

Thank goodness you are OK. The last accident I was in was my kid running his car into mine. Thankfully no one was hurt in that either. Accidents happen unfortunately so dont be hard on yourself. You are safe, the other driver was ok and hey now you get a new vehicle-
