: What am I thinking? lol
: Lyn August 17, 2005, 08:04:50 AM
After looking at all the puppy pics I want to get another puppy. I must be crazy expecially since Bubba is going through the terrible 2's stage. But yet I still keep thinking about it. I even talked to my hubby about it thinking he'd say no and put that idea to rest. But he said he's been thinking about it too. Uh oh. LOL

He wants to wait until Bubba is about a year old (So I have a least 6 months to wait, But at least he said yes!), this way I only have one puppy to chase after. We have narrowed the choices down to either another Saint, a female. Or a female Landseer newf. My friends all think I'm crazy to want 2 large dogs. But who asked for their input. LOL

I'd do it sooner than a year....while bubba is still young even to enjoy a new puppy.  Our girls are only 6 months apart.  I figured having 2 puppies this close in age will somehow not extend my puppy chasing days since they will get out of their trouble stages and running stages at about the same time.  :)

Go for it. ;D  Sugar Bear is 14 months and Dixie Darlin is 7 1/2 months.  They have such a great time together.  It really will free up some of your time since they will have someone to play with.  You can spend that time watching them play, hehehe.

I've had as many as 2 100# pyrs, and 2 50# pyrs at the same time. That was a little crazy. But dogs play with each other, and fulfill needs that they have  that their skinbabies can't fulfill for them.  Last week I day 2 big, and three (small) puppies that was a blast!

Go ahead, get bubba a playmate!!

Do it!!  DO IT!!!

I have two Newfs and there is nothing more fun than watching them play and roll and RARRRRRR!  together.  They sleep curled up together next to my side of the bed and it's grand!  Cowboy is 2 1/2 and Chester is 6 months. I wish they were closer in age  because Cowboy doesn't want to play as long.  BUT, on the other hand, Cowboy is helping to train Chester to be a good dog.  Two is PERFECT!!!

DO IT!!!!!

I have 2 dog, Harley is 2 and Dilbert is just turing 8 mo. Harley is sooo happy to have a pup to play with.  And Tim and I have more free time as they entertain them selves, we now each have a dog to walk, so that is fun, the down side, more poop to pick up!  ;D But we love having 2 dogs

Oh man, 2 dogs is NOTHIN! Oh I reminisce of the days when I only had two dogs to take care of! I suddenly have found myself in a house with 5 MALES! Lucky for me only 3 are over 60 pounds. I have Zoot, Nigel, Sunshine Bear, and my boyfriend's little terrier and his new.. uh... dog... who is the strangest looking creature ever seen and I'm pretty sure he's part muppet. I'll have to take a picture and post it. The great thing is that they all play together and entertain each other, but when those big guys start rough-housing they can knock over a fence. They have done it twice now. Once they knocked the gate loose and then took off for freedom, and just this morning they busted through a section in the back yard. I am beginning to feel slightly overwhelmed with 5! It's the young ones under one year that are doing the damage!! AAHH!!
But the funny thing is I still look on petfinder every day and think about what kind of dog to get next. :D

OH do it!!!...DO IT!!!...Samson had just turned 1 when we got Pippin...It's the best thing I've ever done!!!...No dog should ever be an only dog...They need one of their own by their side!...& in all honesty, 2 dogs is really no more work than 1...I don't know why it works that way but it does!...B.t.w., get a Great Pyrenees!...I might be a bit biased but they are extraordinary dogs!! ;D

Hubby grew up with 2 Newfies. Gus a Landseer and Missy solid black. He's been partial to Newfies ever since. I was the one that decided on a Saint when we got Bubba. But now that we have him he's developed a new love for Saints also. So I figured I'd let him decide this time, since I got my way the first time. And honestly I'd be happy either way. I love both breeds.

I agree with you all. Bubba needs a playmate. My poor cats are taking his playful abuse. LOL And when Bubba sees another dog he's gets all excited and goes loopy. 80 pounds of bouncy puppy isn't easy to control. And the other dog isn't always too happy or in the mood for him. Of course when this happens my commands go in one ear and out the other and I end up pulling him away. :-[ I'm hoping another puppy would satisfy his need so he doesn't try to football tackle every dog we see.

I don't think I'm really worried about how much work 2 would be. I moreso want to make sure we can afford 2.. double the vet bills, double the food bill ect.. plus the possibility of moving and renting. We are thinking it through from every possible angle.

But oh how I love puppy breath. heheeh  ;D

Lyn-
Awesome! Do it! I loved having two dogs. When we lost our pit, I was way sad. However, Cabeza really and truly sees himself as a person. He doesn't play. He loves to cuddle with a big drooly female, but never ever plays. And, he's 6, so he's no spring chicken. So, I'm not sure when we'll get a new pup. I'm thinking in about a year. Hopefully it won't make Cabeza too mad.

But, it sounds like Bubba could really use a playmate! Let us know what hubby decides on.... ;)

Doooooo iiiiittttttt!!  I regret having to wait so long to get another dog.  I could do nothing about it, as I could hardly afford one at the time, but I do wish I was able to get one when Keiko was younger.  I waited 5 yrs before I could get Gunther, and that is just toooooo long.  She is now 7, and does not play much, although she can still kick his butt if she so chooses.

Peer pressure is good.. it's just giving me more incentive.  ;D

Let me explain my situation so you can all understand why I'm not so sure now is the time. Right now we (my hubby, son and I) live with my parents. I know.. LOL I'm a grown woman living with my parents as pitiful as that sounds. BUT we moved in here to help them out financially, which in turn help us out also. I discussed getting Bubba with them and they were cool with it. But I don't know how they would feel about another large dog. My parents have a toy poodle that is the crankiest dog I have ever met. She bites Bubba on a daily basis. lol

But who knows they may not mind.. I really haven't discussed it with them yet. But technically it is there house.  :-\

I just re-read my post.. that just sounds odd... the having to discuss it with my parents part. God I feel like a teenager again. LOL

getting anothe big dog may ease the need for biting by the poodle...the two big dogs will have each other...  at least this is what I am telling myself cause I want another big dog also...lol

I want another big dog too, but my hubby says we don't have the room. :( I know Kiah would really enjoy having someone to play with. If I did get a second dog I would like a landseer newf.

I say go for it, everyone should have more than one dog....lol.  I went from one dog to 3 dogs in less than 2 months and it was the best thing I ever could have done.  Now I don't feel bad if something comes up and I can't give them much attention, they have each other.  I have a sophisticated 5 1/2 yr.old doberman...lol, a 1yr.old dobie mix and a 5 month old Boston terrier/valleybulldog, the 2 youngest keep each other busy ALL THE TIME.... its wonderful.

Believe it or not 3 dogs is WAY easier than one dog.
