I'm still trying to figure out what's the best dog food out there. It's so confusing. Please let me know what you think. I like you want the best for my baby.
Everyone wants to get the best for their baby. But there is no 'best dog food' just the one that fits your needs best. I think its great that you are doing research to try and find something just right. I think that the main things you should consider are where you can get it (it doesn't help to find the 'perfect food' if it isn't sold in a 20 mile radius), how much you can afford, and what nutrition it holds for your dog. When I wanted to switch, I researched and found out what qualities I wanted in a food and got an idea about good brands, and then went to the pet stores in the area to see what the best foods they offered were, researched those brands some more, and then picked one that had the human grade ingredients that were important to me.
Let me give you some likes that might help you:
* One of the best sources out there is the Whole Dog Journal.
http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/ They put out a top ten list of dry dog foods, but since I am too cheap to pay for an article when I can get the information for free, here are two links that quote the info from different years:
http://www.nhratterriers.com/goodfood.htm and
http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/toptenfoods.html*One good article that gives you a checklist for thingas to look for is the Animal Protection Institues 'Selecting a commercial pet food'
http://www.api4animals.org/689.htm* If you are prepared to be disturbed read the API's article 'what's really in pet food'
http://www.api4animals.org/79.htm I warn you that I was so digusted by what I learned from it that I will never buy most major brands.
Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you and your pup because obviously it will be made with love.
