Saint Bernard General Discussions / What do I do for dry flakey "skin"?
« on: October 26, 2005, 10:54:24 pm »
Hi,
My 8 mo old Saint, Bailey, has really dry flakey skin right now.  What should I do for her?  Is there something to help this or make it go away?  Thanks!

Hey, Everyone,
I have not been on much lately!  It is summer and that means ball games and track meets.  This past weekend we went to Marshalltown, IA to watch our 9yo daughter participate in the state Hershey Track Meet.  She got 3rd place in the state in the 100M dash!  She raced against about 60 other girls!  (SOrry proud momma)  Anyways, the point of my whole story...We brought Bailey out to some friends of ours who live on an acreage while we were gone.  As some of you know we have had a hard time finding a food she will eat.  She was eating Eagle Pack if we added a little chicken broth to it, and we were planning to eventually wean out the broth.  Our friends feed their dogs Purina Dog Chow.  Bailey would not touch her food all weekend, but snarfed down the Dog Chow like she had never ate anything in her life!!!!  So I guess it is Dog Chow :)
So much for spending money on good food, but if she eats it I am glad and it's worth it!!

Nicki,
He is definately a Saint!  You are going to give your poor boy a complex!  HE is BEAUTIFUL.  I think Bailey would look just like him if she didn't have a rough coat.  It makes her look fatter than she really is.  SHe is starting to be all legs, too!  I will post some new pics of her later today so you can see how gangly she is getting, also!

HMMMMM,
Bailey does not have any black nails.  I don't know, Nikki, what that means?  Have you researched it on the web at all?

It's funny that you posted this.  I just this past week started switching Bailey to Eagle Pack.  She was on Science Diet, because that is what my vet recommended even before I got her.  I thought, well if that's what a vet says it must be good.  But, then I started researcing more, and found that Science Diet is not really ideal food for them.  The kennel 10 miles from my house sells Eagle Pack, so I researched it, and it seems to be working well.  She is a really picky eater, and I have had to add canned food ever since we got her.  But, I am hoping to add less and less canned as we go.  She is eating it pretty well,  so I am hoping we can stick with it.  It actually even cost less than Science Diet, not that it really matters.

I am switching Bailey to Eagle Pack.  There is another post someone just posted yesterday about a top breeder and trainer who recommended it.  I researched alot and this food is highly recommended for Danes (even though Bailey is a Saint they have a lot of the same growth issues as a Dane).  She is a very picky eater, and I need to mix some canned with it yet, but I am hoping to wean that out eventually.  She has thrown up a lot less now, and her poops have been firm and they say that is a good sign.

I missed all the fun thanks to Bailey.  2 day ago she run under the computer desk during her "puppy crazies".  I didn't realize it until the next morining she had torn out the keyboard wire from the computer.  When I went to hook it back up the plug was still in there, but the wire had snapped!!!!!  I couldn't get a new keyboard until tonight, because it has been sooooo busy!  I get on tonight and am soooo sad Bailey missed the pageant.

The pictures are awesome everyone!  Nicki, you have way too much time on your hands, girl ;D  I think now  you need to go into the Ebay business selling dog costumes.  You are going to be RICH!!! and  I am sure with Cody and Angus as models they would sell like hot cakes!

YUP, JUST DO IT!!!!
I am a SAHM and have been playing around with Ebay since Christmas.  I would really like to get into it even more.  Mostly I have been selling vintage clothing that I find at Goodwill, garage sales, and thrift stores.  Most of the time I make some money on them.  It is really fun and easy to do.  I would like to quit babysitting and do that full time, but I am chicken to "take the plunge and do it"  I don't have as many kids this summer, so I am going to try and get into more and see if I can make a go of it before fall and the kids come again.  I sold the clothes my kids had outgrown in lots and they went really well.
I think you should just try it and see what happens.  Let me know your Ebay name and maybe I could bid on them :)  Good luck!

I thought since we have now seen each other and our fur babies maybe it was time to post some pictures of the human ones.  Here's the picture I took of my kids for our Christmas card this year.  Next year we will have to add Bailey to the picture!
