All this talk about food made me hungry and guess what?
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:21:37 am »
I will be having for dinner??

GUMBO, cajun gumbo, not some soupy northern version with tomatoes in it..blech.

I called my hubby at work and asked him to make some for dinner.
However, it looks like we will be having dinner guests as well.  # of the guys in his cubicle heard him say he will cook gumbo and they said they would buy the meat if he would just cook it....lol!
He makes his own roux which is why it tastes so darn good!!!

To all the Southern bells, question about grits. Does anyone know where to get real grits - not instant  :P out in the great Northwest?

And please, no bashing upon my head with a rolling pin, but is it weird to like them with a pad of butter melting and a side of grape jelly? The combo is delish, but it has to be grape.

OMG, that grits receipe sounds AWESOME!!!  My hubby doesnt like oatmeal or grits but I bet this receipe will change his muleish mind.

Seafood gumbo is my absolute favorite!!  Although we do a variation of shrimp, crab and oyster.
My hubs loves shrimp and okra, but you are right it HAS to be fresh okra!

Coarsly ground corn is what most grits are made from.

LOL, it really doesnt taste like whole kernel corn though.
My g-ma used to put sliced banana's in mine when I was a little girl or cheese and bacon.

I don't even know what you just said.

But one of my best friends in California was Canadian, from Fort St John, and she always said serviette, for napkin. hehe

We went on a ski trip with 4 other couples renting a condo. To share chores, we signed up to provide various meals. Hubs writes down Sunday morning omelets. He didn't ask me. I asked him why he chose omelets, that's not the best meal for a group, everyone likes different things. Actually I was a bit ticked as I didn't want to be a short order cook on vacation. What's wrong with a nice egg and sausage casserole?

"Oh, I'll make them. I'm the omelet King!" This man hasn't cooked a meal in our 15yrs of marriage! :o "Fine! I'll fix toast and beverages, but you're making the omelets!"

He made one giant omelet by putting all the ingredients in one huge skillet. A bit like egg and sausage casserole ! It was very tasty but I had to listen to "all hail the king" for the rest of the trip. >:( :D

Oh, and no, he has not made a meal since.
