: Any Dogue de Bordeaux owners?
: moonlitcroatia June 01, 2005, 10:06:47 PM
I would like to see photos of these cuties.  They were my first choice, but I decided on rottweilers.  I don't see many Dogue de Bordeaux, but when I do they are spectacular.  Aren't they also known as the French Mastiff?

I hope BPO acquires DDB owners.  It would be neat to see what they share.

Hi,  wasn't it Turner and Hooch and Hooch was the dog.  I remember because we owned a video store when it was released and one of the puppies at the end of the movie lived right by our store.  He brought the dog "Napoleon" out to our store to promote the movie and let customers kids pet and climb all over him.  He, of course, was full grown by the time the movie was released.  The kids were climbing all over him and he fell asleep. :D  I happened to see the man who owned him and unfortunately, Napoleon did not live very long because of bone problems. :'(  I do not know of any others around here but I would not be surprised, if I see Steve (owner) I will ask him. It is pronounced (dog de borjay)

I am very accustomed to rottweilers now.  I really do not know what I will do.  Greta and Lou, of course, are aging, but I want to think they have a lot of time left.  Some day I may go down to one dog, because I may rearrange things and/or move out of the country.  But, of course I will never, ever give up any of my dogs...ever!  They will live with me through their last days.

Hi,

I'm a dogue de bordeaux owner.  I have a three year old girl who is the love of my life.  My breeder told me once I had one of these dogs, I would never want anything else.  She was simple to  train, very smart, seems to be a logical thinker.  This is a breed that is very protective of the family, they act as a body guard.  Its just something she does, I didn't have to show her anything.  They just want to please you, if you ask them to do something, they will (as long as they understand!) They also need alot of attention, this is not the dog to be left alone alot or kenneled away from the family.  Their health will suffer (they lose their spirit).  I also would not advise a beginner dog owner to get one of these dogs, they can have very stong personalities (like any guarding dog...rotties, shepards) you can't be afraid of them and you must correct them (not physically!) if they challenge you. I feel so safe with her, she is about 130 lbs. although that is pretty big for a bitch.  They do tend to have some joint problems (hips, knees) but most large breed dogs tend to have these problems within the breed.  The bordeaux has such a small gene pool that it is difficult to breed this out.  My girl had tohave knee surgery and even though this happened I would still get another one, they are just a wonderful dog.  If you want to check out the breed go to www.bighousebo rdeaux.com This is my breeders site and she is just awesome (the dog at the top of the page is my girls daddy!)  . I tried to attach a photo of my girl "gracie" hope it works.  If you have any questions, just ask.  Thanks, dirdee dog

I have a bordeaux named Tank. He just turned one and is about 130lbs. He is just a great dog. I have 3 boxers also and I never thought I would love a breed as much as them but I have found it. We got him from Park Ave Bordeaux in Alabama. His father is Razz (who was also STUNNING). Strangely enough when I was getting ready to pick him up from the airport the breeder emailed me that his brother was also comming into the same airport. Long story short we all became friends and the boys play all the time. It is a beautiful thing to watch them stay so close. I have never met gentler creatures in my life. My Tank is just a huge mush-protective at the appropriate time but a MUSH the rest of the time. I am trying to upload some pictures but last night it this site kept giving me an error message so I will try again tomorrow. Wait till you see him he is BEAUTIFUL if I do say so myself! LOL

Your boy Tank is beautiful.  I have heard of Razz.  My girls father is Monte de superb from Bonnie Gordon.  Her dogs were featured in "The Ultimate book of Mastiff Breeds" by Douglass Oliff.  (Can you tell how proud I am of her? lol)  My Gracie is the most affectionate dog, she loves kisses and hugs and when I hug her she makes this sound like "mmmmmmmmm",  its adorable.  She likes nothing better than to lay down with me and cuddle.  Loves to go for rides and she is always with me wherever I go in the house.  When we go outside she runs ahead very alert,  looking for danger, when she see's no one she comes running back to me very relaxed and playfu. l Her vocabulary is really something.  She watches me in conversation with people and moves her head back and forth to each of us as we speak (I really think she gets some of it!)  She is so obedient that she will actually pee on command (I think she figured this out because I always ask her to go before getting in the car!!)  She amazes me everyday, and I swear I fall more in love with her everyday.  Keep the pics coming, Dirdee dog

Thanks for the compliments on Tank. Your girl is too cute too. Her color is beautiful. Tank is a big mush too. He snorts and grunts when he gets happy (kisses and hugging and playing!!) He is a very happy and gentle dog. He just turned one so his just becoming protective of his Momma. It is so cute. He is very obedient (well most of the time) but we are still working on it. I am actually getting married on Sept 2 so I am really busy right now but after the wedding I will have pleanty of time to get back to our training. He just recently figured how to get himself on the bed without me having to lift his REAR up. So needless to say he can be al ittle lazy- which happens to be a nice change when you have 3 hyper boxers runnung around too!! I will try to post more pics tonight. We had a playdate with tanks real brother Goliath yesterday(very confusing names b/c I have a goliath too) so I didnt have any time to go on the computer.

Here is one of our mastiff girls, she is a Dogue named Callie
: Re: Any Dogue de Bordeaux owners?
: my3dogs January 22, 2006, 04:12:22 PM
Callie is beautiful.
She reminds me of our friend Cedar, a 5 yr old Dogue de Bordeaux who quietly went to the bridge in her sleep this past summer.
If I was forced to choose ONLY ONE word to describe Cedar it would be MAJESTIC.
She would sit so tall, so regal, so proud.   There was something about her bearing.
I would tell her mom, "Somewhere in that dog there is royal blood.  Just look at how she holds herself."
Her mom would tell me, "YOU wouldn't think so if you could see what a big goofy monster she is when she is racing around the backyard."

Well...we all have our moments.

Dogue de Bordeaux are a beautiful breed.
Callie has that 'look' too. That proud, majestic look.  :)
She's wonderful.  I'm glad you posted her picture.

-Wendy.

Hi my name is Emily (WI Em) and I have a 6 month old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy named Beaumont. I aquired him from Buckeye Bordeaux in Ohio. I've got to resize my pictures of Beau, and then I'll get some posted. I have pictures from when I brought him home to recently, so from about 8 weeks old to 6 months old. Will see what I can do or get my 9 year old to help LOL.

Ok, got the picture thing figured out. This is a pic of Beau at about 4 months old snoozin' on the sitting room floor. He's still a baby, even if he is 70 lbs. now... :D

Hi

I have a DDB he is only 16 weeks old, we lost our other DDB before CHristmas to a severe from of epilepsy when he was only 6, I was totally devastated, and miss him terribly.  Our house was so empty and our staffie (and us was missing him so much we got another and his name is Louis, they are a fantastic breed, and very very loving I will try to post some pics of Louis pronounced Looey (as in the King of France as he is a French Mastiff :) :)

He is already turning into a great Dogue

Nice to find some other owners :)

We are from the UK :) :) where the breed seems to be coming more popular.

 :)greetings from the uk!
I have asha a 6month old dogue de bordeaux along with a 2 yeal old choc lab called willow.

Having had a neoplitan mastiff before called tess who died at the age of 6, we thought we would go for a smaller mastiff instead.

Asha is already 35kg, so dont think she will be that small! I must say she is the most affectionate big baby i have ever owned, she loves to sit on our knees at every opportunity! :)

Hi I have a rott/dogue de bordeaux (yes aka french mastiff) and here she is!

She is named after Peyton Manning (we live in Indianapolis and my boyfriend LOVES the Colts. We picked the name because she is gonna be tall, lean, muscular too though and she is gonna have a big head! (size not ego!) And most of all...she is quite vocal. She uses her voice for everything! If she isn't talking...she must be into something!

I also have a DDB. His name is Steiger. He is actually five moths old today! Being a former Rottie owner turned full time mom (my last rottie passed when Lily was less than a year) I wanted to dog similar to my Rotties but just a touch more laid back. Our drooling ottoman (Steiger) is the perfect fit. lol. All that hard headed oneriness I love without the high excercise requirements. We are also home to a tiny 9lb Boston Terrier "Kuzi" and a Frenchie named "Bill". I worked as a professional dog trainer for years when I lived in VA. I have to say that the DDB is the easiest Mastiff breed I have come in contact with to train. Followed very closely by the Boerbel. Possibly even a tie....Anyway, I love my boy. As soon as I figure out this picture thing I will show off our baby boy. Thank you for letting me post!

This is Harley!  He's 1 yr old and what a joker.  He is from Kittimer's Zeal and Kittimer's Love from Ohio.  He's only @ 110 right now, but he's still has a little growing to do.  He's our first Dogue and we would definitely get another.  We also have a Choc. Lab and a Lhasa Apso.  They all get along great.  Can't get anyone to play with Harley though.  He's gets too rough.  We've noticed this week that his back ankles are a bit unstable.  He has no pain or lameness. Maybe just a little stiffness.  They "pop" out to the side when he walks.   We took him to our vet and he felt that it was part of his development.  We don't want to take any chances that may cause long term damage or problems. How can we be sure?  Any suggestions?  We'd really appreciate any info we can get.
Thanks!

He's a great looking dog (douge) :D  HE will not mature fully for another 6-10 months so the popping joints is not uncommon.  There was just a thread about that very topic withan English Mastiff not too far back.
