Different barks for different friends?
« on: August 21, 2005, 07:48:55 pm »
Bear has a friend named Jett (a black standard poodle) that has a distinct bark whenever Bear comes near. He changes the pitch and length at which he barks and does it until his mom lets him come out to play with us. His bark for every other dog that goes by is the the same, but Bear's is special and uniques so she always knows when we are around the window.

Now Bear rarely barks but I was wondering if you have fur kids that do the same thing? Do they have a special bark for one of their favorite friends or is it the same sounding bark for everyone?
Hugs,
Jaime
Mom to one handsome black Bear.

Hmmm.......not a bark, but Gunther's friend Leo, a border collie mix, makes wierd sounds and usually only when playing with Gunther.  It sounds like a mix b/t a moaning and newborn puppy wailing.  Gunther has even joined in on a couple of occasions.  Very strange.

Those who say their dogs are not much of a barker...consi der yourself lucky.
We have many different barks at my house.  They fall under categories and subcategories.

1.  Someone's here bark
     a.  It's grandpa (yippy and excited)
     b.  It's a neighbor kid  (in the middle of the other two)
     c.  It's a stranger  (growly, loud, and never ending)
     d.  Reese (doggy friend) is here (bark, whine, bark, run, whine with excitement)
2.  We hear a random noise bark
     a.  it is a scary noise  (snarling, deep bark)
     b.  it is an interesting noise (excited, bark, listen, bark
     c.  it is a noise only in their head (one bark, long silence, one bark)
3.  Random
     a.  you left us outside alone (pitiful, baying bark)
     b.  someone has something I want (pitiful and whiney)
     c.  just getting your attention (loud, quick, no build up, suprising bark)

So, yes we have a variety of barks for different people, dogs, and situations.

Thanks,

Emily and 1 husband, 1 boy, 1 on the way, and 4 crazy dogs
