With Duncan I get the usual questions...Ho w old is he? What does he weigh? How big will he get? How much does he eat?
With Sam and Max it's usually just "What kind of dog are those? I've taken to telling people that they're rare Pyrnewfian Lap Dogs usually only found in a place called Futon. You'd be surprized how many people believe me! ;)
I should add that I started telling people this because I was tired of all the people that associate "mixed breed" with "mutt". That's a four letter word in my book.

What's that on top of his head?
(It's drool, he shakes and it wraps all the way around like a drool ring)
What's that smell?
He likes to pass gass in public...

"Look it's beethoven!!" mainly from kids..
"Look it's Cujo!!" Mainly from men. lol
"Where's your saddle?"
"Bet he costs alot to feed!"
"How much does he weigh?"
"How much did he cost?"
"Where can I get one?"

This is an actual conversation I had with a guy at my vet's office when Bubba was a puppy...

Him: Is that a Saint Bernard?
Me: Yes it is...
Him: Wow he's huge.. How old is he?
Me: He's 13 weeks old..
Him: Really!?!? He huge for being on 13 weeks, Are you sure he's not older?
Me: Yes I'm sure he's 13 weeks old..
Him: Well you should get a saddle for him and ride him..
Me: Why would I do that? It would damage his back. He's a dog not a horse.
(He ignores that remark and then says...
Him: I just can't believe how big he is..
Me: (Me irritated at this point, lol) Well he is a Saint Bernard not a Chihuahua!  ::)

I promptly got elbowed by my mother since she was standing right next to me. LOL But he shut up and went and sat down. I would really love it if people ask me legitimate questions about the breed. But nooooo we all get the stupid questions.  :-\

We get all the usual dumb questions, but we did get one that was a bit more unusual:

"How did you get that black and white custom paint job on that Ford Expedition?" ::) ::) ::)

Awww, come on, that one was kinda cute.  Gotta give him points for originality!  ;)

I completely agree!  In fact I was startled to hear some thing other than the usual, what is he, a cow? saddle, etc., etc.

He's also been called a dalmation (??!) or a St. Bernard - Great Pyr. mix.   On the dalmation comment, I ended up giving up because the woman was ABSOLUTELY ::) positive he was the fattest dalmation she's ever seen!!! ::)

For some reason, people tend to assume that Sadie is a boy and Riley is a girl.

Riley's questions:
How old is he?
You mean he's going to get bigger?
Does he shed a lot?
How much does he weigh?
How much does he eat?
How much do you spend on food?
Did you shave him? (he's not even a smooth coat-he is fairly short-haired for a rough coat, but I've met a couple of people who said their rough coat Saints looked just like him at his age... Either way, he certainly doesn't look shaven!)

The funniest recent comment was, "Do you exercise him a lot? He's awfully thin." LOL I explained that no, he's a puppy, so he hasn't filled out. I can just picture myself trying to run with Riley the Klutz (not to mention that it wouldn't be good for him anyway). I can't even walk with him without him tripping me at least once or walking on the back of my flip flops.

For Sadie it's:
Is that a lab?
Are you sure HE's a full lab?
Isn't she kind of small for a lab? (She's 60 pounds but people don't understand that a lot of the giant labs you see now aren't within the breed standards-THEY are the unusual ones.)
Is HE a puppy?

Magoo's Questions

Strangest ?: What is he, a long haired St. Bernard?

Stangest Comment:  From some meat head in the nieghborhood, "You better stop feeding him it is not good for a dog to get that fat." :'(

It was good she said that to my hubby and not me!

Because he is solid!! ;)

Kate's questions:

- Shepard crossed with what?
- She's really a purebred?
- (After I tell how they "think" the Leo came to be):
       - Oh ya, I can see the St...
       - Oh ya, I can see the Pyr...
       - Oh ya, I can see the Newf...
- How much does she weigh?
- How old is she?
- She's not even a year yet?!
- She's SO soft!
- What's her name?
- Who's walking who?
- She'd eat you for lunch!!! (Someone walking a little dog)
- She must poop like a horse!
- How much does she eat?
- She sure talks a lot!
- She's beautiful!

I've gotten most of the one's that I've seen here but two that I get are:
1) (always from children) 'HOW did he get THAT big??!??!!!'
and
2) His name is Festus???  (for the record, no I didn't name him after a character from the TV show Gunsmoke... He's named Feste, from the fool in Shakespeare's 'As You Like It'.  LOL
Tom, Overwhelmed, Overrun and Overruled by Feste, Chance and Puck!
