We got a message today from the Humane Society in Sikeston, MO saying that they have another Newf from the same owner as the landseer that Melissa found on petfinders. http://www.bigpawsonly.com/index.php/topic,10800.0.html
I haven't called back yet but will probably call soon to get some more information. The first dog (Promise) was a therapy dog and the owner had to give him up due to surgery.
The problem I'm having is thinking about the transport part of this. Missouri is a Lonnnnng way from Nova Scotia. We'd need to make arrangements for transport through the following states just to get her to the Canadian border in New Brunswick:
Missouri
Indiana
Ohio
Pennsylvania
NY
Connecticut
Massaschusetts
Vermont
NH
Maine
Yikes :o
What do you guys think??? If this dawg is not for us, which may be the case since the transport will be such an issue, I'll post the details anyhow in case someone else is interested!

This is interesting. Aren't the standards pretty high for therapy dog cert? I would bet this is a really wonderful dog. I have seen some amazing things happen on BPO in terms of transport. It sounds like a long way to travel, but I wonder if we could get her to you?
I am in Washington State, so I don't think there is anything I can do, but I don't think the location of the dog should necessarily deter you from getting her. Do you know how much it would cost to have her flown to you?
What an opportunity! Keep us posted!
-
OK I just went back and re-read your post. It looks like the first dog was a therapy dog, not this one. Still, I think if you find out she is wonderful, maybe a transport could be worked out!
-
ok Melissa....do NOT tell me that you have been as close as New Glasgow! I am just under two hours from New Glasgow and go there regularly for work! I'm emailing the woman about the dog right now to get more information so that Doug and I can have an informed discussion. He said "what about the pup" earlier today and I'm having a hard time understanding why a full grown and a pup newf couldn't coexist peacefully... hehehe

I'm in Southeast Kansas. I'll do what I can to help with transport if needed!
-
I would be happy to help you with the Nh, Maine part, more if nessesary. Please let me know if I can help!

Depending on the timing me and/or Tim could handle the CT portion and maybe part of Mass as well. Just let us know.
-
I'm in Iowa but I do hope he finds his way to you!...Good luck! :)
-
I'm In central Ohio and could help at least across the state.

I'm In the Portland Maine area. The CAT leaves Portland to Nova Scotia on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I can help too.
-
I can't help with transport but wanted to let you know that I have all the pups paws crossed for you. Hope everything works out for you.
-
You guys are awesome! I hadn't even thought about the CAT! I just did that drive yesterday and that's totally doable there and back in a day! I could even maybe cross over on the CAT ... hmmmmmm....now to just hear back from the woman to get more information.
-
Okay, I have to ask. What's the CAT?
-
The CAT is an extremely fast car ferry that goes from Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia .... I'm not sure what the acronoym actually stands for. [url]http://www.catferry.com/[url]

Okay, I have to ask. What's the CAT?
The "Cat" is a high speed ferry that runs from Portland,Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
oops, sorry Barkleysmum you beat me to it.
-
Thanks. I have to say a fast car ferry sounds like an oxymoron to me. But then again we have 3 ferries that are supposed to run from Galveston to Bolivar Peninsula and normally only 1 ferry is ever running and you can have 1-2 hour wait to get on one. That's awesome that you have a fast ferry that will get your new pup! See I'm being optomistic that everything works out.
-
That is cool! Now I want to come up and ride on it. Okay, I think I'm done thread jacking at least for now.
-
keeping paws crossed for you.
-
I am in Western NY I doubt the transport will come this way but if it does I would be happy to participate.
Best of luck with whatever you choose!!

I am in Indiana, let me know what I can do to help! I can transport and foster!!!!
-
I'm in NY and could probably transport depending on when. Van will be in the shop part of next week (Wed-?). Hopefully not too long.
-
I haven't had any further response to my email folks ... and am holding off calling as I need some more information before I can have a serious conversation with them. Thanks for all the offers of transport! You all are amazing!

Hey Barkely's Mum. I don't know if you'll be interested since you're inquiring about a Newf already, but if things don't work out with that dog, I know of a female Landseer Newf in Indiana that needs a home. She's 3 years old. If you click on this link and go to the bottom, you can read about her and see her picture. Just thought I'd let you see it, but I hope you get the best dog for you no matter where it's from or what it looks like!

she's beautiful! I wonder why they're looking for a home for her.

We got a response to our email (we've been away on vacation this week and are just getting home now). Here's what it says:
Sandy:
Sorry it has taken so long for me to back to you. The Newfoundland we just got in is from the same lady that gave us Promise. Her name is Dolly. She is 2 yrs old, bronze in color, spayed, good with other animals (cats included), and children.
From what we can tell she has an excellent disposition about her and is just as sweet as can be.
If you need anymore information let me know. I would of sent you pictures too but she is having to much fun playing in her swimming pool.
Thanks,
Lynsey
Here's the thing....as awesome as she sounds, I think we are going to have to pass at this time. I'm concerned about the trauma that transporting Dolly all the way to Nova Scotia would cause, plus it just doesn't feel right at this time. So....is anyone interested in this amazing dog??? If so, PM me and I'll give you the email address etc. I'm going to respond today and let Linsay know we can't take her at this time, but boy she'd make a good BPO addition somewhere closer to her, don't you think? Remember - her buddy Promise was a therapy dog so she's probably just as smart and trainable!
-
UPDATE:
I had an email today from the shelter. Dolly was adopted to a home in Illinois on Thursday! Yay!
