I've been gone from BP for some time, but am asking everyone if I may rejoin the group. Is it ok? I have missed reading the posts and antics of all the much-loved furbabies living w/you.
I was Petra's mommy, and she has since crossed the Bridge and I have her ashes sitting beside my precious Lady and Katie (my danes who crossed before her.) Although I really tried w/Petra and had some unfortunate incidents occur while she was w/me, I still miss her.
I have 2 dogs now, Greta, a mountain cur/greyhound mix and a small dog, Wags and he is a min. pin./terrior mix. I adopted them from the local shelter. I had intended to get Wags alone, but they told me about Greta going to be euthanized. She had been at the shelter a very long time, they had no space for incoming pets, and she'd been found abandoned in a back yard w/one live and one dead puppy. She had very saggy teats and no one wanted a dog who looked like her.
Welllll, I wasn't going to let them euthanize a perfectly sweet dog because of a defect she and I share (I could relate) so she also came home w/me. Yesss...I am a sucker for the "underdog."
I am also fostering a Great Dane/Yellow Lab mix. Her name is Roxy. She too was scheduled for euthanization (the shelter is NOT a no-kill shelter) and the shelter manager asked me if I would be interested in keeping her alive.
She had been at the shelter for longer than the limit of 2 months, had been adopted 2 times (another requirement for euthanasia - 2 strikes and your out) and brought back each time. The previous adoptees had kept her in a crate all day while they worked and only let her out to relieve herself. The other family had a small child that Roxy got too playful w/and they complained that she was viscious!
She is just very high energy and had never been on a leash. Since she has gotten daily walks, good, healthy food (she was very thin) and training in basic obedience, she is just the most wonderful pet. She is just a big loveable lug.
After Petra, having so many loving and wonderful dogs surrounding me, I am again enjoying myself w/my babies. They are all wonderful and respond to my leadership very well.

I'm so sorry to hear about Petra. It is the hardest thing in the world to lose such a special girl!

That green ball is HER favorite toy. I tell her to get her toy and she searches frantically for it and brings it to me. She is SO smart.

Greta always looks like she is "smiling" and wiggles all over.

Poor Wags wags his tail all the time and is always getting under foot of Greta. He can hold his own and is a spunky little guy. Hope he can stay in with the BIG PAWS; he thinks he is BIG.

Welcome back, all your pups are cuties.

As long as you've talked with Jabear and Bear, and they are okay with it, you are welcome in my book. :)

My mistake then.
Smohr, no offense was meant, and I sincerely hope that none was taken.

Welcome back! I'm sorry to hear about Petra.

no offense taken . . . :) I just wanted to know if it's ok to join back w/the group.

HI Sherry, glad to see you back. I remember everything that went on with Petra and I know those were very hard times.
Your new crew is very cute! Aren't shelter dogs such a joy?

Shelter dogs - who knew? I did, but didn't if that makes sense. One of my danes came to us by way of the Humane Society. Katie was 12 weeks old and had been removed from the owner - he beat her w/a chain (a puppy mind you) when Katie played to rough (duh-a dane plays no other way as a puppy) w/his son. Katie was my greatest joy and devastating heartache when she passed.
Thanks for welcoming me back - 'preciate it.
More of Roxy - she's a foster...up for adoption for anyone near Marietta, OH...hint,hint. I may not be able to give her up or it will be very hard to. She's so fun.
Her favorite green ball goes everywhere she goes. Even to bed.

Welcome back!!!! I can't believe no one had taken Greta home, she's adorable!!! It must have been meant to be! And Roxy is a doll!!! haha...most "little guys" think they are big dogs... we had a pug/norwich terrier who thought she could scare off coyotes...

Thanks; yes, I'm fullfilled w/all the new gang around and keeps me busy w/training.
All your pups are still adorable.
