: Cosmo is having surgery today
: cosmosmama October 03, 2006, 04:13:57 AM
I wanted to let everyone know that Cosmo is having eye surgery today.  My vet and I decided to remove the Cherry Eye glands after some discussion.  He is having the surgery at 1pm.  Prayers and well wishes for my tall, dark and handsome man!!

Aaaawww.  Thanks for so many kind words.  Cosmo and I are both getting a little antsy now.  I have to take him in just a few minutes.  Well, the truth is Cosmo is cool as a cucumber.  I am the antsy one!!

Dog healer, thanks for letting us know Connor has been there and done that!  Just a little procedure, just a little procedure (she continues while belly breathing)

: Cosmo's Surgery......No Cherry Eye
: cosmosmama October 03, 2006, 08:42:14 AM
So get this craziness, the vet just called and said after Cosmo went under she started investigating only to find no Cherry Eye.  What we believed to be Cherry Eye is actually an anatomic defect.  (I told her not to tell Cosmo so as to spare his feelings.)  She said it was actually some of the third eyelid and wasn't able to fix it.  Mr. Droopy Red Eye still prevails.

Part of me was relieved with the idea of people not asking what is wrong with his eye.  That of course only comes after the ten minute question/answer period of his size, why is he so skinny, blah, blah, blah.  I guess I could now place this thread in the Rant section!!

Thanks for being here and knowing that big dogs are so wonderful and not just for their BIGNESS!

Tina,
LOL  That was fabulous.  From here on out if they are starting to bug me it is Pink Eye. Bwhahahaha!

And the plot thickens...... ...

Seems as though Cosmo's third eyelids are rolled and that is they cause of the "Cherry Eye" appearance.  The vet recommended an opthamologist for him.  She said the third lid cannot be functioning correctly the way it is.

Good news though, Cosmo is now home and safe.  He is very disoriented and unsure of what to do.  Poor Big Boy.

Tina, the vet loved the idea to claim Pink Eye when asked!!

WOW! This is what I thought...I mean, about the rolled third eyelid, not the pink eye! hehehe! You can kinda see it in there sometimes...lo oking all rolled up.

So, any ideas on what they do to treat that?

Glad to hear he's home and safe, Krista. Give him a kiss for me.  :-*
