: my new aquarium...
: schelmischekitty February 20, 2007, 07:46:14 PM
hasn't been set up yet, but hopefully it will get done this week??  it's a 72 gallon, 48" long, 28" tall as far as the actual glass goes, and 1 ft deep on the ends, 1 1/2 ft deep in the middle (it's a bow front).  with the stand, it's nearly 6 ft tall, neither of us can reach the bottom of the tank so we're debating on the best way to get decorations in it right ha ha.  anywho, Jo mentioned she wanted to see it, so here it is.  also a few pics of just a few of our fish.  oh, the top flips down as a "hood"

That is awesome!!  I am wanting to get a saltwater aquarium soon.  My daughther has an aquarium in her room, just a goldfish and a couple of sucker fish, but she loves taking care of them.

have you thought about cichlids?  they're freshwater (although you have to add salt) but have the look of saltwater, and SO much easier to take care of!

Wow, that's a super nice tank!  Tony used to have a saltwater tank but it was way to hard to take care of.  I love that pic with the fish and "eyebrows" hahahaha too funny!

i stood on our kitchen chair (we need a ladder so bad ha ha) and still can't reach.  i'm going to go see if i can find some prongs though, i didn't think of that!  can i bury our fake plants with it, do you think??  i'm really worried about the plexi glass, because we're mainly replacing our tank b/c the kids have run hot wheels across the front of it and scratched it to bits.  i can't get them to stop, but i guess maybe i'll get a squirt bottle after them, too??  ha ha.  our cichlids are awesome, if anything goes up to the tank, they get right up on it.  all of them.  and they bow up at everything too, especially diesel!  they've got a super personality, and always keep us in awe ha ha.  Jo, i'll make you a bet.  hm.  you can have it, IF, you come to visit me for a WHOLE year ha ha.  and bring your pups!  ha ha.

the ONLY thing i regret about our tank is how i have it set up.  i have a problem finding rocks for our tank (i need a TON of texas holey rock to do it, or lace rock, etc) and our stores charge about $15 per SINGLE rock.  so, to solve this delema, i have it set up in a river / swampy theme.  it's very unnatural for the fish i have, but for now (until i make a trip to texas!) it's the best i can do!  we also sold our tank when we moved (we had a 55 in NC also) and i hated it so much that within two months i had to have another one and got our complete set-up for $200 (which, ironically, is the same amount i paid for this new set-up)  they really help me keep calm (and sleep at night) so i get pretty stressed real easy if i don't have one to watch ha ha.  sad, but true.  i can sit and watch it all night.

Have you checked ebay for the rocks?  Maybe you can find it for less there.

for enough for my aquarium i'd spend about $300-400 for the rocks including shipping, and i could drive to and from texas from my hometown on that, and get an experience with it ha ha.

i'm so excited, hubby got up in the middle of lunch and started checking my aquarium for leaks.  YEAH!  we're going to try to go to marietta to get some "stability" and other things so that i don't have to wait a few weeks to set my tank up (new tank syndrome kills fish off fast and i happen to like mine very much) so this guy says that stability puts all the bacteria that you need into the tank right then.  hopefully tomorrow or the day after we'll have it all set up!
