: Till what age can you start crate training?
: MarleyPyr February 05, 2008, 04:31:52 AM
I have been reading from many of you that you crate train your dogs. I have never tried this...didn't until now know much about it..
Marley is almost 2. If we eventually get him to sleep overnight in the house, do you think this would be an option at his age? I wonder now if when we have tried having him sleep in the house and he has cried all night, it is because he has always been "in the house" as in no crate.... advice?

When I married my first husband, his two dogs were about 4 and 5 years old, and they were out of control and obnoxious! (A female dalmation and a female collie mix). I got crates and started right away. Those girls learned their manners fast, and it was a blessing to have some control back in the house!! They enjoyed their crates, and usually slept in them even when they were "freed".

I stopped crating Lily at 6 months because she doesn't do anything but sleep while we are gone. I use crate to feed her raw now...that's it.
I know that many dogs enjoy "den environment" but Lily prefers  TempurPedic Bed, LOL!
You should definitely give it a try and see if Marley likes it  ;) :)
