: Marking!
: Bubbalove April 14, 2008, 01:27:03 AM
Looking for a little help/advice about Kana's marking obsession...
He tends to mark A LOT when we are on walks (literally, even when the tank is dry he is lifting his leg and scuffing after) and I took him to work the other day to visit and he did REALLY well with everyone (no jumping...MAJO R milestone) but he marked 2 times while we were in the building for about 15 minutes.  I took him out due to embarrassment!!!!!!!!!
My question is...do we stop this behavior?  HOW do we stop this behavior?  He never does it at home, but if we want him to be more of a "social" dog and go with us places, how do get this to stop?????????

HELP!

I took in a foster newfie a few months back that walked in and peed a GALLON on the side of the couch! I swear it looked like Niagra Falls. Immediately I started researching marking. I found a great article you could check out. http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogTip_Marking.php
Has he been checked medically for a UTI? That could be an underlying cause. If he checks out, there are some great suggestions in this article and some great background info to help you understand what a dog is saying when they mark. I founf it fascinating. Good Luck!
