We should have a east coast Get together. Anyone else interested?
It would be lots of fun.
Jenn
-
I'm in, and I'm volunteering Moni too :P
-
I'm in too if Sophie decides to behave herself... I started a thread while ago about an east coast get together and had quite a few people reply but nothing set in stone. You might want to find that post there were some good ideas passed around.
-
that would be hard to pass up. Any ideas as to where and when?
-
Sounds cool!!! ;D
-
I would love to but it has to be a Saturday.
-
yeah definitely a saturday for me too :)
-
I would definetly love to go to an East Coast meetup as well! Unfortunately, I don't have a car, but if someone from Long Island, NY ends up going and would want to pick Taz and I up ... ;)
-
Where would be a good central location?
-
I'll go if it's a sat. Any possiblility on it being in Maryland?
-
I'm in Pittsburgh area so Maryland would be great for me
-
bump
-
Sounds fun, but I am in NC not sure how far Maryland is from here.

Where in NC? Some places are as close as 3 hours from the DC area. I can look up good dog parks in the area if you want me to.

Thanks for all the response. I think
1. We should come up with a central location. so if we all either post our location or pm me a can figure out one. I want it to be fair for evryone who wants to come.
2. Come up with a date and time. I agree saterday is great and also the afternoon would be best to give everyone time to travel. As for dates, I'm free on Oct 22or 29 or Nov 19.
3. We should also figure out how many people would like to stay the night, we might be able to get a discount on hotel rooms if we have enough.
4. Should we have a cook out while we are together? We could all bring something and then we would be so hunger after traveling all that way.
5. I also thought we could also have a contest for things like: who drove the farthest to get there. Who broght the most dogs and things like that for fun.
These are just some of the ideas I have had, I hope i have not stepped on any toes. I'm getting really excited about meeting everyone. Just let me know what youall think. And if you have any other ideas. i am willing to do as much of the work as I can to help get this to happen.
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have not been able to get back on the internet sense I posted this.

Hey! We're in Philadelphia suburbs and may be interested in getting together with some Big Paw friends!! Let us know if anything comes together. 10/22 is out for us but I think the other dates are good!
(Oh and can little paws come too? We have two Cairn Terriers who would hate to miss the fun!!)
-
I'm in Westminster, Maryland (just north of Baltimore) Nov. 19th would be the best for me I can not do the 22nd or 29th. I definitely think it should be pot luck I think that will be the easiest. I'd be happy to help out with any of the planning just let me know. :)
-
I think our whole family should be weclome. I'm keeping track of where everyones from and dates that are good so we can figure this out.
Jenn
-
Titan and I would love to find some play mates of his size and temperament. We live in Wareham Ma right near Cape Cod.
We may be able to join the big one if I can get the Saturday off.
I will keep checking in on this one.
-
I live in Nashua NH. The cook out sounds like a good idea. I have issues with a Potluck just because it'll be like an 8 hour drive for me (Not that I mind!) and anythign I bring will be, well icky. If we do a cook out I can get stuff from a local grocery store to bring.
-
I
-
Moni you can't ride with me EVER! Your dog has bad gas and my dog of course has none :P (Of course you can sweety. You nut job!)
-
I think there are two ways to pick a location
1. Pick a point in the middle if the farthest people such as plot everyones location and pick a spot in the exact middle of everyone.
2. Pick the most central point to the major of the poeple that are coming. So if most of the people are say from PA then it would be there (just an example)
Just let me know which everyone perfers.
I was also thinking meeting at a park would be a great location.
just let me know

We will need things like buns, plates and stuff, so the people driving the farthest can bring stuff like that, so no icky stuff.
Before the actual get together we can figure what everyone is going to bring.

I'm on Aberdeen Proving Grounds, an hour south of philadelphia in Maryland. What can I bring? We need dog friendly hotels. I think Red roof gives group discounts and allows pets. The 19th is def. good. Oct, not so good. Oooh, I'm getting excited. ;D
note: edited to include the state I live in. Duh. ;)
-
The October dates might not be good for me either, but I'm hoping the November date can work out! I may be going to Virginia for Thanksgiving the day after that, so it might give me a good head start :D I'll see what happens, and how my dad feels about coming to get me before continuing on to VA, etc. This is very exciting and I would love to meet everyone, and Taz can never make enough friends! ;D

It is starting to look like Nov is going to be good. Just let me know.
There are several hotels that allow dogs. I'll have to check on the group rate though. Here are a few.
Motel 6
Red Roof Inn
Travelodge
It will also depend on where the location is too. I know that Motel 6 cost from $35 to $45 and they usally chrge around $5 to $15. I'll check on the rest.
LoveMySiberian
Where in Virginia are you going? We live in Fredericksburg and may be able to help you out. It might be crowded, we have a van but have 2 kids, and would brieng to dogs but Molly isn't that large yet. Just let me know.
So let me know about the date. We also might Think about Dec if it's not to cold.
Jenn

oooooh, what about a doggie christmas party with a grab bag? That would be fun. We could put reindeer antlers on all the dogs. lol. :)

Oh that sounds like fun! I wonder if a local doggy daycare would let us hold dog party? I've heard of some places that allow dog birthday parties... since it will be getting colder at the end of nov. and into dec.
-
That's a good Idea.

I will be in Roanoke.. is that within good distance of you? It's still not definite, but a very solid chance. I should know whether I'll be there or not by the beginning of November!
I also like the idea of the X-mas party ;D
-
Are you going to roanoke after or coming from there.
Jenn
-
:'( Dont worry about me I am just a lonely, noisey South Texan reading about everyone meeting up........LOL
-
Blair, it's only a short plane ride, lol. You could come along? BTW, do we have a decisions yet? I'm dying to meet everyone. :)
-
It's starting to sound like Nov 19 is the date. It everyone Ok with this let me know. It is also starting to look like PA is a good place to meet sense there are alot of yuo are from NY, PA and MD, MA. How does that sound to everyone?
I've stayed in a Microtel and it was nice but the pet charge was $35.

Nov 19th works well for Bogard and I as well! We're coming from NYC (Manhattan) and PA sounds great. We're going to a Leo show this weekend in upstate NY and staying at a Days Inn who takes BIG dogs without any additional fee. Our group rate for the Northeastern regional Leo club was $65/night. Much more than the Motel 6 at $35....but just thought I'd throw that out for you as well!
-
I travel with my dogs and stay at Comfort Inns . They have no problems with me staying there with two Rottweilers. They charge an extra $5 per night for the dogs. It is one thing to go into a place with a dog, totally different to walk in with two large Rotts. They didn't have a problem at all. There are Comfort Inns just about everywhere in the Northeast. Last one I stayed at was Hazelton PA just a couple of months ago.
You can also look at Petswelcome.co m for dog friendly hotels, motels, beaches, and just about anything else. :)
-
Where in PA is it gonna be??
-
send pic for us that not a good date my Grandson is being Confirmed must be there i was not there when he was born! So this is Important,Molly came the same weekend,so sorry Guy's next time,!Love molly&Maggie!!Have Fun!!!
-
I'm going to start looking for a good place in PA to have it if everyone is in agreement to that location. I also need to know how many will be coming in case I need to resevre something to have the cook out at like a pavilion or something. Just let me know. And since Nov 19 seems good I think that will be the date.
Jenn
-
I am still unsure when and if I will be in Virginia, so as soon as I do know (which will be hopefully by the beginning of November), I will post. Oooh, I hope I can make it! If I don't, we better have another one, because I want to meet everyone :D
-
Do we have any updates on the gathering? :)
-
So far it is looking like Nov 19 is the date and looking at PA as the location. I'm trying to find a exact location though.
Jenn
-
I forgot when you let me know if you are coming. I need to know how many people and dogs will becoming. It will help in picking out the place. Thank you.

I found 3 different parks that have dog parks. I am call 2 of them tomorrow to see if they will allow us to meet. One is in Lower Allen, PA and is 110 acres, here is the link:
http://www.lower-allen.pa.us/Parks/LACP.htm#GENERAL%20PARK%20INFORMATION
The other two are in Lancaster one of them is 22 acres. Here is a link that shows a picture of it. http://www.fandm.edu/x2050.xml
The other is a 3 acre farm that I will have to call. I could not find a link for it.
Jenn
I am still looking though.
Thank you for everyone who is PM me back. This will come in handy when I make the calls.
Jenn
-
im all the way in southern tn , almost AL i wouldnt be able to make it that far north :'( since i dont drive it makes it even harder :P
-
The park in Lower Allen sounds great! I like that they have seperate areas for big and small dogs.
-
Sorry I've been having problems with my computer again.
I have contacted all three parks. The one that didn't have a website is out, they would not allow certain breeds or children. I didn't think we would want to support a park that breed discriminates.
1. The Buchanan Park in Lacaster has a pavilion that accommodates 75 people which is big enough. Thay have no problem with the amount of dogs we will have or that they are large. The whole park is 22 acres, with an off-leash park as well, which we are free to use. The have a grill and electrical at the pavillion. There is only the one pivillion to choose from. They also have a playground for the children.
2. Lower Allen Community Park has several pavillions to choose from. is 110 acres. all the pavillions have grills. they have a playground for the children. They also have a dog park but we must register our dogs before we go (this includes you must send a copy of their vaccination records from the vet, and they must be registered where you live with a number and must be spayed or neutered) before we can use that part of the park. They are welcome anywhere else in the park on a leash with out all that stuff.
I need to know soon what everyone perfers so I can reserve the pavillionand send the check for the one we choose. So let me know.
Thanks for everyone who has responded to let me know you are coming or not.
The date is going to be Nov 19.
Jenn
-
They both sound good. I wonder in Park #1 how far the off leash part is from the pavillion. It would really suck if it was a good hike away. It would be fun to let the dogs run around together. Do you need us to pitch in money? PM me your address and the amount and I can send you a check.
-
I have a qu
I vote for #1. They sound less restrictive. Did either give you price quotes???
I have a quote from both. I just didn't want that to influence anyone.
But #2 cost more and I have to put a deposit down. #1 no deposit unless I want the bathroom key, which if we do someone will have to go pick it up on friday and return it on monday, then I will get key deposit back. just so everyone knows.
Jenn
-
I vote #1 also. Less restrictive, and there isn't the spay/neuter requirement. Lily isn't spayed yet. She won't be until we get to Germany now. :)
-
just so everyone understands (I might not have been very clear) on park #2 the registeration is just to use the off leash dog park, not the rest of the park.
I relized after I reread the post I might not has been clear.
Jenn
-
*bump* ;)
-
bump bump
-
If we are voting... we opt for #1..Lancaster is closer for us...
Also, Sullivan is not neutered. I realize that is only for the off-lead part, but he'd miss all the fun if he couldn't go off lead!!
Keep us in mind.
-
I almost forgot. I have started to look for hotels and I will post info as I get. I do know that the motel 6 only allows 1 dog.
Jenn
-
We may be interrested we are just outside of cleveland. How far do you think that would be?
-
I check on the yahoo map site and it is 375 miles and about a 6 1/2 hour drive. We would love to have you. Just let me know if you can make it.
Jenn
-
Did we decide on a location for sure? I'd have to say park #1 only because of the spay/neuter requirements. Bogard is only 4 months old, so he won't be neutered by then.
-
So far we have 7 votes for park #1, This includes me (I would like to use the off-leash dog park while we are their and for #2 are dogs are not registered with our county). And one vote for either. So if anyone else wants to let me know thier prefrence, you have til tomorrow. I will be call tomorrow before 3 pm to make the reservation. I will check hear and my pm to see if anyone else has responded. Thanks you again.
Jenn
-
I don't know if you got mine, but I like #1
-
yes, I got yours :). Thanks
-
Ok everyone, I have reserved Buchanan Park in Lancaster PA. I will be sending the check out tonight. It is only $25 so I've got that covered. I am also going to put it on a new thread just so everyone will be clear.
Now we have to start planning the cook out. here is just some of the things we will need. We can either post or PM me on what you can bring and I will keep everyone posted on what we still need.
Hamburgers
Hotdogs
hamburger buns
hotdog buns
drinks
burger and hot dog toppings
chips
paper plates
plastic silverware
napkins
side dishes
desert
If anyone can think of anything else just let me know
Jenn

Jenn

Jenn..
I'll get back to you this weekend with our definite response..Just checking w/ John that we don't have something else going on...and since we aren't too far... perhaps we can really help out w/ the supplies...
Til a bit later!!

I sure hope it's a yes ;D.

Ok I need some help if we want the key to the bathroom for the get together.
Let me explain 1st: If we want the key to the bathroom at the park we have to put a $20 deposit down which is no problem but it has to be picked up on friday Nov 18 before 3:30 pm.
What I need is someone who lives close who is willing to go pick up the key and put the $20 deposit down and also return the key the next (you will get your deposit back when the key is returned.
I would do this but that is too far for me to drive 3 times in a one weeks time.
Let me know if you can get help with this. Otherwise we will have to leave the park to use the restroom :(. I know this would be ok for a lot of people but I have a 3 year old who is potty trained but not trained to hold it for a long time ;). (I guess that comes with time)
The lady at the park department did say there is a museum that we can use the bathroom at that is close by if we have to do this.
Thanks for any help that you can give.
Jenn
-
I'm so excited to meet everyone!
We'll bring a dessert.
Any developements on a hotel in the area? Sorry but we can't help with the bathroom - although I agree - it would be very very nice to have one at the park to use.
Looking forward to it!

Maybe I missed this but what time are we meeting up? Are we meeting at the offleash part or the pavillion? Oh and also which pavillion are we in?

Wish I could be there, unfortunately it's too far and have too much going on. I know my puppies would have enjoyed it. Hope that everyone has a great time. Posting a few new pics.

Great pics! They are so cute.
-
Maybe I missed this but what time are we meeting up? Are we meeting at the offleash part or the pavillion? Oh and also which pavillion are we in?
We had not decided. There is only one pavillion they told me. I have the permit is from 12 - 6 pm so anytime. What do you all think.
1. What time should we meet?
2. Where should we meet?
-
I teach piano lessons in the morning so I wouldn't be able to leave my house till around 11am which would put me there around 1pm.
I think maybe it would be better for the dogs to meet on leash just in case... We'll know right away who will get along with who. And hopefully it will not be Sophie picking on everyone. :-\

Actually it's better for them to meet offleash. Reason being that a dog on leash has lost it's "Flight" option when stressed so the only thing left is "Fight". Just my experience.
As for when and where........ Moni and I are gonna be driving all night so we're gonna go to the hotel first. (There is a hotel right?) For us to wake up and drive down in the morning to be there in the afternoon just isn't feasible. But we don't have to meet up right away. 1 sounds good. So all the travelers have time to settle and such. Also, are we planning anything for the weekend or is it just gonna be the one day?
Ang

i'm working on the hotel. Some i have called said Great Danes were to big, so I'm still looking.
Jenn
-
I have one hotel that I am call back tomorrow to talk to the manager who was not there today. That was the Rodeway Inn.
The Comfort Inn - 2 dogs Max $71.99 with a $20 pet fee. Large dogs ok
Quality Inn- no max number of dogs $62.99 No large dogs i.e great danes
Best western- dogs under 75 lbs $20 pet fee
I have called many others and they either only allow small dogs or only 1 dog. I have a few others that I'm calling tomorrow.
I just what to let you know I have been looking.
-
I would like to say that I stay at comfort inns when I travel and never have problems with my dogs. Also note that if you happen to be a state ( any state ) or government employee you get a nice discount. I think ( don't quote me ) it winds up costing about $55 -$60 with the pet charge included. Better call ahead just to make sure. :)
Strange question but here goes... Do you think that many big dogs in the same place are going to get along ? I sure would like to bring my boy Dylan but he is a little strange at times. I worry about a fight breaking out.
-
I called this comfort inn and the said no more than 2 dog to a room. I don't know why.
-

Sophie can be alittle strange sometimes too. She likes some dogs and then does not like others. She did not like this shy doberman at obediance class but did like the Leonbergers. I also think that being on leash did have a lot to do with it. She loves the dogs at the vet and some in the neighborhood but does not like the mojo across the street. I really hope she does not start any fights.... If she does then she will be staying in the car ;) We're going to play it by ear.
-

Yeah that does make sense. I was just a little nervous since the only dog sophie has been around off-leash is my in-laws GSD who was submissive and perfectly happy with Sophie bossing her around. According to the SPCA where we got her she does like dogs so it will be interesting to see how this goes. :)
-
Ok this is important I am in contact with 2 hotels. I need to know which everyone would everyone be willing to pay one hotel is cheaper with really small rooms the other is more expensive with free breakfast and nicer rooms. I need to know as soon as possible.
Jenn
-
Personally for me Cheaper is better. We're only gonna be staying 1 night right?
-
If you go on mapquest and look at the hotels/motels in that area they have a LOT of places within a few miles. Some as cheap as $35 per night ( Scottish Inn Ephrata lancaster ) , Red roof Inn $45, Lancaster Travelodge $54, Super 8 $50, Holiday Inn. All of those prices are START AT prices but all of those places say they except pets.
I sure hope I can go :)
-
I wont be staying the night so it doesn't matter to me :)
-
I'm really sorry if I sounded testy when I posted last night, I was really tired but that is no excuse for sounding like that. I really just want to apolgize before anyone gets upset.
Jenn
-
Jen,
I just wanted to say I appreciate all the work you're doing. I coordinated a dog get together (One I didn't even get to attend when all was said and done) so I know how hard it is. Especially the hotel part. I ado appreciate it and Thank you!
Ang

If I have forgotten anything let me know. I think I have everything covered but I'm not sure. Thanks everyone.
Jenn
-
Looks good. You are doing a great job!
-
Thanks for pulling this together Jenn. :) I'll be buying whatever I need to bring when I'm down there, so just let me know what to get.
-
Jenn thank you so much for all of your organizing - so sweet of you to step up and arrange everything!
Just a side note from some of the earlier posts about dogs that are questionable with other dogs - does anyone have a dog that is NOT okay with a puppy? Bogard is a male, un-neutered Leo PUPPY at 5 months of age. I know some dogs aren't overly friendly with puppies and I want to ensure having a pup there isn't going to escalate any issues with anyone. Thanks!!
-
My dogs are fine with other dogs, one is really friendly and molly my puppy is kinda shy. so thier is no poblem here.
-
;Dyeah, We got our permit today. Our permit for the park came in the mail, we offically have the right to assemble.
Jenn
-
aww I'm sorry you can't come... We will take lots of pictures and will miss you. But it is good to spend time with your father, I hope his surgery goes well.
-
I'm sorry you won't be able to make it either Jenn. I will come and cry in the corner with you.
Jenn
-
Hey Jenn I just had an idea, why don't you bring your dad with you, he is more than welcome to come, and I reserved extra rooms just in case. Just a thought.
Jenn
-
I'll say a little prayer for you tonight.
-
Sorry..but Sullivan and my family have to send our regrets too.. I was so excited about coming...but we have a family thing at 3 pm..(my brother and SIL2B) and my dad will be up here from NJ shores...
so, we're going to go to the Philadelphia Kennel Club in the a.m... to see the IWs, Cairns and chihuahuas...
Here's the website:Â http://www.philadogshow.com/
anyone who wants to go from there or on Sunday if you stay over... it's at the Ft. Washington Expo Center, in FT. Washington PA.. I am guessing it's at least an hour away possibly longer from Lancaster..
If you go to the link...you can get the schedule of when the breeds you're interested in are going to be 'on'...
I look forward to seeing the pictures... I hope we can do this again and Jenn... I'll be your biggest assistant next time..even driving the hour or so to pick up the bathroom key!!!
So sorry...we are disappointed.. . :-(
-
I seriously doubt I will plan a spring get together. At least that is how I feel right now. And I don't think I will change my mind.
-
I don't blame you... :-\
