: Were you a little girl in the 70's? ( :
: Gypsy Jazmine May 14, 2006, 02:34:20 AM
If YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S ...

You had that Fisher Price Doctor 's Kit with a stethoscope that
actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with
flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had
metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
YEAH! ~ You  owned a "Slip-n-Slide",on which you injured yourself on a
sprinkler head more than once.

You owned  "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than
once.

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy
Hamill". People sometimes thought you were a boy.

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny
shredded outfits.

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the
trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh
yeah!)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole &
the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.  (is this an east
coast thing??)

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little
House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at
least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.!

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you
kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

~ When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you
were gonna "take off"

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends,
Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not
plastic. With the thermos inside!

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of
Hazzard was your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz"
would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry.
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy..?"

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame
soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick
God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable
tape player up to the speaker.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy
Blume books (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart
or rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was  the first "real"
perfume you ever owned .. .

~ you glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip gloss till it almost
dripped off.

Now don't that bring back memories?  :D

Just hush...there's no need in making people feel old!   ;D  And I never had a Holly Hobbie sleeping bag.

Now I know I'm old. ::)  :D I was teenager in the 70's. I remember my little sister having Holly Hobbie and Strawberry Shortcake stuff.

OMG, I forgot about so many of those!  The ones that really hit home are the first kiss at the roller rink (that actually happened :-*) and fighting over the Dukes of Hazzard.  I loved Bo and my best friend loved Luke, but we were always ragging each other about it!! ;D ;D
I also remember Wizard of Oz being a big deal.  My younger cousin cried once while watching it because he got scared!! :D
: Re: Were you a little girl in the 70's? ( :
: Kermit May 14, 2006, 11:52:31 AM
You mean "Physical" isn't about aerobics???? ;)

LOL oh my god, that is the best thing I have ever read, I really want to print it out and send it to my sisters!!!!
 :D :D :D
THANK YOU!!!!!!
I still have dreams about John Schneider! And I think I still have the head of that Donnie Osmond doll, and at least 5 star wars men...and... wow. I loved being a little girl in the 70's!!!!! ;D

I am glad you all enjoyed this so much!...Sure brings back memories 'eh? ;D Have yu all heard the song "1970 Something"?...That's another one that gets me every time!
"Saw Star Wars at least 8 times...Had the Pac-Man pattern memorized...I saw the stuff they put inside Stretch Armstrong...I was Roger Starbach (sp?) in my backyard...Had a shoebox full of baseball cards & a couple of Evil Kenevil scars on my right arm...I was a kid when Elvis died & my mama cried...It was 1970 something in the world that I grew up in...Farrah Faucett hairdo days...bell bottoms & 8 track tapes...Lookin' back now I can see me...Oh man did I look cheesy!...I wouldn't trade those days for nothing...It was 1970 something" ;D ;D ;D

Somethings you've mentioned I did play with but since I was only 3 when we exited the 70s I expericed most things in the 80s. Does that mean that I don't count?

I had a Holly Hobby birthday cake! I think I was three.  :)
I came along in the second half of the seventies, but I can remember many of the things on the list. That was fun!  :D

Also to go with the moon boots....I had a pair of gloves that had a white heart on them. When I went outside in the cold they would turn red! Those were so cool.  8)

I've got a SHOCKING addition.  Do you all remember those candy 'cigarettes'?  They came in a 'cigarette box' like real cigs, and they looked roughly like a real cigarette.  You took them out and pretended you were smoking them while you ate them.
Also, we of course all had hot pink leg warmers...mayb e they were to warm you up when you lost circulation in your legs due to underage smoking! ;)

I too have an addition.... did anyone else have a pet rock!?!

AND I had a Shaun Cassidy sing-along-radio (as well as his face ironed on my pillow case so I could practice kissing him), and and Pet Rock named Pinky (after Pinky Tuscadero on Happy Days). I'm going to have to dig out some of my embarrassing 70s photos and post them for you. They are hilarious!!

When I first started reading this thread, I actually got out a pencil and paper to write everything down.  When I put the pencil down and went back to the thread, all of my new additions were taken!  (First album: Shaun Cassidy, etc.)  Here are a few meager additions:  Pretending to be the Charlie's Angels (Jill because I looked absolutely nothing like her and how come she is still gorgeous, by the way?!), homemade handkerchief halter tops, no Dorothy Hamill haircut, for me it was Kathy Rigby pigtails (or was it Nadia Comaneci?), Barney Miller, MASH, going to the drive-ins w/parents and falling asleep in the back of the station wagon, also being terrified of the flying monkeys fro Oz,  dressing up in my aunts' prom dresses and dancing in front of the mirror while grandparents listened to Lawrence Welk, moms all over the place getting hysterical about the Sweet n Low saccharin/cancer scare, and last but not least, pet dogs roaming free visiting neighbors for scraps and following kids to school (mine got in the building once).

All of this is far to shameful to admit.

I will just say:  Shaun Cassidy, my ***.

PARKER STEVENSON, LADIES.  Parker Stevenson.

(And he's STILL cuter than Shaun.)

That was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D I believe I kind of remember a movie called "Meatballs" or something like that...The best part (before falling asleep in your footie jammies) was going to the consession stand & getting popcorn & a hotdog! ;D ;D Oh those were the days! :D

LOLOL I totally forgot this, but my parents took us to see 'Christine' at the drive in.  We lay our sleeping bags on the ground in front of the car thinking we were watching a movie about a neat car.....
I'm calling my mom and giving her what-for.  That experience scared the life out of me.

Oh, yes, the Cabbage Patch Doll!  I remember wanting one so bad, but it was Christmas time and you had to wait in line forever for new shipments.  Stores couldn't even keep them on the shelf!  So, my sweet parents had an "adoption doll" made especially for me. :)  It was even better than a Cabbage Patch, and I know cost a whole lot more for my parents.  I still have it packed away in a closet!! :D

I just saw this thread and yes although I hate to admit it I was there also!!

I LOVED my click-clacks - then they got taken off the market because they were shattering!

I had cabbage patch dolls quite a few I think?  Still have at least 3 in my attic.  My sisters who were older were buying a baby gift for someone and inadvertantly got in a line at the kids store on Long Island once they got to the beginning of the line they were each handed a cabbage patch doll they were confused but bought them anyway.

My first concert - 17 young girls went to see Donny Osmond we all wore purple and screamed - turns out Suzanne Z had chicken poxs which noone know and the rest of us had them together!!

Loved Parker Stevenson - had a pet rock - but not store bought my father found a rock and made me a pet rock.

This was a great idea - what a walk down memory lane!!

Oh yes, I remember all of it...the magic 8 ball...anyone ever own Blip?  what a silly game..Ants in your Pants... there were just a few things that I didn't have...but I could relate totally from thinking Gopher was cute on the Love Boat and being afraid of Fantasy Island... However, my friends and I played "Charlies Angels" and I always had to be Sabrina... oh well...it does bring back memories...

My friend (who thought she was all that) had one and for the first day I was jealous.  Then it ran out of hair because she gave her five haircuts and she ended up with a doll with short hair.  Ha!

P.S.  Remember the Afterschool Special?  My personal favorite:  "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble."

You won't believe this...

I found my Super Simon last night.  It was hiding in the bottom of my linen trunk under the 4-yarn afghan my grandmother made me the year she died (which I never use, obviously.)

Now I'm going to have to go buy D cell batteries and see if it still works.

How about those shorts? They were ALL KINDSA SHORT! GAG! Even my DAD wore them! GOD! And the cars?! EEEEEEEEEEEEW!

I totally had subscriptions to Tiger Beat. Ralph Macchio?! OMG! HOOOOOOOOOOT! I guess that would have been early 80's, but, still. Corey Haim? WHOOOOOOOOOOOO H! hahhaha!

How about Betsey Wetsy? Did anyone have one of those? You filled her with water and she PEED! hahahha! OMG. I LOVED her.

And we totally had a Simon. My brother still has one. Its fun. YOu can still buy them, I think.

Okay ... so now I go to bed thinking about being a kid in the 70's and picking my feeble brain for memories .... it is safe to say I am obsessed with this thread and may soon need an intervention!  ;D

Here is what popped into my head last night.... (in no particular order)

1) Scott Baio

2) Leif Garrett

3) Baby Alive ....the doll that ate baby food and drank bottles... it pee's and pooped (My mom wouldn't let me have it cause she thought it was gross.... but thanks to my favorite Aunt - I did get a doll that drank from a bottle and pee'd)

4) Easy Bake Oven .... I REALLY wanted one but was denied....lol

5) Dances... The Bump and The Hustle

somebody stop me!  :D
