: you guys are so going to pick on me, BUT...

i found a way cheaper, way better alternative to the halti lead / gentle leaders.  with us we are always paranoid about them slipping off, or breaking, etc, not to mention we always end up paying almost $20 for ONE, and being we have 4 dogs, well... you get the point.  so!  i went on e-bay and found something better!  we got a pygmy goat halter (this is where you're going to start laughing!) and put it on axle.  it is really nice, and thick, it has a 5/8" strap to it, and does an "X" under his chin, so it's really stable and won't slip off.  we did have to buy a collar to  "extend it" being axle has a fat head, but we only paid $5 for the halter, and then $4 for shipping, and then a WHOLE $2 for an "extender" collar.  so it totaled out to a whopping $11, including tax, which is a whole $9 cheaper than a halti lead and i like it soooooooooo much better!  i think i'm going to get a miniature horse one (we weren't sure about sizing) and see if it fits without the extra extension.  just thought i'd share!  here's a pic of what we got.  they come in different colors.  i forgot to mention, the cheek pieces slide up and down and allow you to make around the nose and mouth bigger or smaller.  it's really nice!

Hi,

Oh I do like the looks of that collar(halter). I have a gentle leader (narrow nose piece) and a halti, (came undone the first time I used it). Lollie really doesn't like them, but if she pulls, I am gone (with her that is).

Going to look for these right after Chrismas. Or might find one at the local farm store.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing.

they really work a lot better than the halti's.  we always have a problem because axle is in between sizes, and it either rubs his eyes or slips off too easy.  this is so adjustable, you can even adjust how big the part that goes around the mouth compared to the piece that goes around his neck.  i've already used it, and it works out sooooooooooo much better!  and so much sturdier and not so muzzle looking.  also, with the halti's the connector for the leash is under the mouth, this one is more centered between his nose and the back of his jaw.  also, with the halti's i don't like the LITTLE thin strap that connects it to the collar.  with this one i feel safe enough that i don't need to connect it to the collar.  with the halti's i always just connect a choker to the loop i connect the leash at, but it makes him look "dangerous."  if the halti comes off, i know it means trouble, but with this one i don't even feel a need because it's so stable!  axle can't even get it off himself, because of how adjustable it is, i can actually get it to fit JUST right!  i love it!  sorry for the length, but i just love it so much and it really works great!

So I personally think that is ingenious!  I am a dog trainer for Petco and private and am always looking for better alternatives, especially better priced ones!!

Cosmo and I are going to head to our local farm store.  I know they will probably say all those "funny" things like you better get him a saddle, etc.

A+ for your creative insights!

here's the requested pics, sorry the guys don't look too thrilled, i woke them both up for this and they had their hopes up for a walk ha ha.  i noticed it was hard to see on axle, so i put it on diesel so it would be easier, and not so much hair everywhere.

I think it is a fantastic idea. I want to check that out for Puck. I find with him having a shorter muzzle the halti will slip and slide. Thank you ;D

just think what it would be like if all dogs were required to wear something like this in public!  no more "got i wish they'd get control over their dog-ing" on walks or petsmart, etc!
