Otto (and, for that matter, Gweck and Beans) has a new playmate.  His name, for the moment at least, is Leopold and he is a 4 month old English Bully Terrier.  He's from England and, therefor, barks with a soft accent.  I haven't weighed him yet, though he seems loke a slight little thing at the moment, though big feet might be a presage of things to come.
Leopold is stone deaf and, having never had a deaf dog before, I'm scrambling for useful information about living with a dog that sounds like Marlee Matlin.  Anyone on board have experience with this?  Gweck and Beans both seem to like him and Julie is enraptured.  I think you will like him too; now we only have to convince these cats...

HI MATTHEW!

Its Nicole, Cabeza and Mabel's mama. Its SO good to see you here!!! YAY! Leopold is a-dore-a-ble! I want to eat him up! He looks great with Otto, too. What a pair. You're going to find tons of info here about deaf dogs. Keep an eye out for Moni. She's an expert and a total sweetie.

So glad to see you!

AWWWWW he's adorable!!!! Just wait 'til Jo sees this!!!!!!!

Here's a link for the Deaf Dane Rescue in Oregon...

http://gracieland.org/DaneRescue/

I don't know if it helps a lot...there's an FAQ and maybe you could e-mail DDR and ask some questions about raising a deaf dog?

Moni knows lots about this subject as well!

Leopold is soooooo cute. I love that name, too. :D

Although Duke's hearing is 'selective' ;D we've chosen to incorporate hand signals in his training.

Unfortunately, that's the best that I can offer. :( Wish I could be more helpful.

Otto looks like Duke. ;D Very handsome.

He's wrestling with Gweck and Beans even as we speak.  Thanks all for the enthusiasm.  we will keep you all posted as to his development.  The swimming pictures don't reveal how cold the poor little bugger was.  Pray for us now and in the hour of our deaf.

*smacks forehead* HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?!?!
First of all, WELCOME To Big Paws Only, Fellow bully owner!!!
Congrats, Your little Leopold is the cutest little fellow. So sad to hear he is Deaf. but very very common in the breed (As Im sure you know).
Im Jodi (but, please, call me Jo), mom to Zero & Jigsaw, my bull terriers... Zero is my gorgeous brindle & white baby boy, who i love and cherish more than anything. Jigsaw is my goofy white with brindle ear, little show girl... I dont know why I call her little, when, shes about 5lbs heavier than my Zero.
I'm not too sure about how to train deafies, but, any questions on the breed itself- Im here if anything.
It's nice to see another bull on the board... Not, that i dont like seeing other breeds, as i do own Memphis, a 180lbs great dane and reba, a 10lbs chinese crested hairless dog, and 4 cats.
Good Luck with your new bullie boy... But be careful- they can be tricky LOL

Sure will, everyone tried to steal jigsaw, until she became... well, adult-ish? too bad your bullies a boy, or he'd be on my Kidnap list! LOL My boys hate other boy dogs. so- another male would cause chaos. eww

That's not true, Jo.  We are still planning on stealing Jigs but you keep taking her to the dog shows.  It makes it hard for us to sneak off with her when there is all those people watching.   :D

Hey, Jo,
In fact, we've had four previous bullies, years ago it seems; all rescues and we've had 50/50 results with them.  We recently lost Diva, our 11 year old Great Dane and we weren't really looking for a new dog just yet but, you know Julie...  Much bully stuff is coming back which I either deliberately forgot or just got lazy and off we go.  It is a peculiar joke of fate that a breed that is known for not really listening much under ordinary circumstances should now be deaf.

I cannot resist the combination of the smiley-face nose and the up/down ear thing he has going on. ::) He looks full of personality and the pic of him at the car window is full of ATTITUDE. Congrats to you all for the special addition. Look forward to hearing more about him! ;)
