: Too bouncy pup
: AnnaCrew November 06, 2007, 08:27:49 AM
As some may remember, nearly 2 weeks ago we rescued a saint bernard girl, believed to be 9 mo old. She has put on some weight, at her last vet visit she was 31.3 kg, and is adjusting quite well in our pack.

My main concern healthwise is her bones and joints now (the fast growing pup was kept on incredible food, mostly apples and potatoe peelings, no meat, oil or even cereals), and here is my problem: she is too bouncy pup. Like bally dancer.

She walks and runs a bit, not much excesises allowed so far, as she was chained for past 4 months at least. But she is soooo happy to be free, that even at home she can out of the blue just jump over any of my dogs - some are higher than she. I'm trying to stop her, but then again she looks at me like I'm banning all the fun.

Maybe you can remember your large breed pups - were they jumping so high at that age and how their joints are now?

Thank you! I will calm down then and let her have all the fun in the world. I never had sooooo bouncy saint bernard - she is like a young spaniel in saint's skin :D

Grace loved to jump and bounce as a puppy.  she still does.  her knees and joints and hips are great.  I think it's all in the breeding really.  Lady (the rott I left with my ex this spring) wasn't bred well and grew so fast she needed ACL's replaced before she was 2.
