Tonight I heard Czar my Pyr barking outside down near the gate to our property. I went down to see what was happening, and there was a large truck backed up to the gate and a strange man reaching down over the gate trying to pet Czar, and my Mal, Raisa. As I approached the gate, I realized it was the person given the task of removing our "For Sale" sign in front of the gate. About 20 feet from the gate, Czar, put his body between myself and the gate and promptly sat ON my feet. He held his head high and proud and kept his eye on the man reaching over the gate. I tried to move my feet forward, and even though I told Czar the command "OK", he would not let me move forward. During the entire time the man talked with me (20' from the gate), Czar never moved, never said a word, but he kept his body firmly planted on my feet standing between me and the gate and the stranger. He did not stand up and let me go until the stranger was in his truck with the for sale sign, and on his way down the gravel road. Czar is a truly amazing animal; he knew it was a stranger, he knew I was home alone, and he knew he had to protect his mom and he wasn't going to let anyone get in his way. 10 minutes later he was happily greeting and playing with some INVITED guests which he knew and loving up both their kids and parents! I am so blessed to be sharing my life with such an awesome canine! His sister, Raisa, the Mal, thinks so too!

That story brought a proud little tear to my eye. I love the dedication and loyalty dogs bring to a family. You'd be hard-pressed to find a human who would do the same thing. Dogs RULE!! You go Czar!! (great name, by the way).

Give Czar a great big congrats from Jennifer and I. I think that is the main reason I agreed to let my family finally get a puppy. I wanted them to be safe and protected when I'm not home.

Thanks to everyone who commented on Czar and his protectiveness of me this past weekend. Czar is 3 years old, and yes, he is already a calendar dog! The local no-kill shelter, the Iowa County Humane Society, sponsors a photo contest each year for their calendar which is a fund raiser for the shelter. Czar, and Raisa, my Mal, have made the calendar each of the last 3 years. (5 years for Raisa) Pet and nature photography is a hobby of mine, and I love to do it, and I have entered their photos in several contests. Czar is so photogenic and he loves the camera. I am still in awe of his actions of last week....he never ceases to amaze me. With gratitude to all of you for all of your thoughts on Czar.

Due to a very busy week sending Pippin to his new home :(, I did not get to comment on this. Way to go Czar! Dont ya just melt when the do this sort of thing? I dont know of a Pyr owner that does not have a similar story that they tell with pride. It speaks so well for the breed. But it does not hit home until it happens to you with your Pyr.
