: large breed vs regular food?
: pyr4me February 12, 2008, 12:34:47 PM
Does it make a big difference if my big paw eats a large breed formula or regular dog formula? Jenny is currently eating Innova large breed formula, but I was interested in  the Timberwolf Organics food for both dogs, but it's not "large breed" specific. Any thoughts? Thanks! Jennifer

I guess what I'm wondering is if the large breed formula has ingredients in it that wouldn't be good for a large breed to not have...particu larly because Jenny didn't have the best nutritional start before being adopted.  :-\

I just saw this & wanted to add that Cassie eats Innova Adult and she does great on it.  Cass is probably 3/4 Pyr, 2 yrs 9 mos., 88# and very solid.  She has a UTI right now, but that's the first health problem she's had in the year since we adopted her.  If Daisy & Sam could eat Innova I'd feed it to them, too.  We've been very happy with it.

From what I have found out large breed pups need the large breed puppy food during the growing process, the fat, protein and has added calcium for growing large breeds, once the large breed is an adult then Reg adult food is fine.

actually large breed foods have reduced calcium to prevent HOD! the regular food has more fat and calcium, and the large breed has less...at least that is what i have been told and found!

Timberwolf Organics is one of the foods removed from this year's Whole Dog Journal list for not divulging where their food is manufactured.  They didn't refuse like some brands, but they did not respond to the inquiry.  I would hold off switching until they come up with a satisfactory explanation of this.

Thanks, I didn't realize this.
