: Toby is a week new to BPO and we love it

Hi. I originally posted on the General forum. We have been on here for at least a week and have heard from great people already. Toby is our big boy and he belongs to my 1 1/2 yr old son. He hand feeds him and lays on him...it is too much. My 3 1/2 yr old son loves to throw the ball for TOby and get him to chase. Toby pays eekly Saturday visits to a local nursing home and is highly liked. He is such a gentle giant and he just turned 1 this month.
It is great to see a community for people witg big dogs and how everyone praises each other. This is alot better than sites where people judge and make fun of the other pets and people. This truly is a community family.

Beautiful boy! I have a question for you--
Did you have to get Toby certified to go to the nursing home, or are you just able to take him?

Beautiful boy! I have a question for you--

Hey there,
We first called and spoke with the activities director. We brought Toby into the nursing home, with her invite, and to let her observe how he reacted to the residents and their walkers and wheelchairs. Nothing phased him. By her observing him she said she would love for us to bring him regularly. There are some nursing homes that request you bring in a state registration of the dog, Texas has that.

Just call and ask to speak to the activities director. Let them know about your dog and its demeanor. Let them know that you would really like to volunteer your dog to pay visits to the residents on a weekly basis. If that nursing home allows animals to come through, ask to bring the dog in for the director to observe their interactions. Hope this helps.
