Something is wrong with Kira. My son woke me up this morning and said that Kira was acting funny.
Her ears are spread apart (this is how I know she is in pain) and she kept her right eye closed.
When I went to touch her head, she flinched like I was going to hit her.
She let me touch her ears but not the side of her face and right below her jaw I can feel some enlarged lymph nodes.
I finally got her to open her eye and it's blood red in the part that should be white. She also tilts her head to the left and kinda walks sideways and slow and if we come near the right side of her head, she turns it as to guard it.
She has had eye infections in that eye before and it has always leaked a bit due to her allergies.
She looks so pitiful and I can hardly keep my make-up on for work because I cant stop crying. I hate it when my babies are sick!!
We have an appointment at 9:15 this morning. Please keep her in you thoughts, prayers and well wishes.
***UPDATE******
It's a pretty bad eye infection. She tried to bite the vet when they put those drops in her eye to see if there were any scratches. She bit the lamp they used after they got the drops in.
She has NEVER in her 7 years behaved this way, not even when she bloated!!
The vet and (most of) her staff are just awesome and didnt hold it against her.
Her Lymph nodes are swollen on that side and the head tilt she has going on, Dr. V said it may eleveate the pressure on the eye and that's why she is tilting it to the left.
They gave her oral antibiotics, and eyedrops that have antibiotics and steroids and some pain meds.
We have to do this for 5 days then go back to make sure it's going away.
There were no scratches on her cornea. I asked if they had any ideas on how it got infected and was told it could be anything from her and gunner playing to her usual allergies that just escalated into a serious infection because it was left untreated (new vet intern said this and made me feel lower than low for not catching it sooner)
She let me put t he drops in her eye when we got home but kept on spiting our her pain meds.
I swear half a jar of peanut butter and some turkey cold cuts later, I finally got her to keep it down!

Good luck at the vets, please let us know what they find out. I'm glad they got you an early appointment.

-
Oh the poor girl.Keeping Kira in our thoughts :-*
-
Awww. Poor Kira. :'( :-* :-* :-* You and Kira will be in my thoughts today. Let us know how the vet visit goes.
-
Glad to hear they at least found out what is wrong and can treat it. Don't let vet intern upset you. You are waaaaayyyyy too good a momma to have just ignored anything with Kira. Sometimes these infections can just take off overnight.
Quick healing to you Kira. Give mom a break and take your meds!
-
:-* and the magical powers of "puppy breath healing" from Chantilly and all of us to sweet to Kira :-*
Feel better soon...and we suggest mom make some peanut butter cookies for you :-*
-
Thank goodness it's something treatable! And don't feel bad, eye stuff is hard to catch (esp with dogs who have runny/goopy eyes to start with).
The trick for getting my Staffie to take pills was to stick 'em to a piece of freeze-dried chicken with a little butter. Worked like a charm (and she was one of those dogs who'd eat the hotdog and spit out the pill!).

I absolutely agree. These things can go out of control over night and you didn't do anything wrong. Send good thoughts and healing vibs your way for Both of you!!

I am so glad you were able to figure out what was wrong with her :) Wishing her speedy recovery! :-*
-
Hope she gets better soon. New toys and lots of spoiling always helps ;D ::)

Thank's guys. it has been a VERY eventful day.
Kiki has spent the better part of the evening in her crate on her own accord. She let us put the drops in again tonight, took the antibiotic but again spit out the pain pill, so my hubby crushed it up and put it in some canned food. he wouldnt let me do that with the antibiotic though, said that it needs to be kept whole to maintain it's potency. I have no clue if he was BSing me or telling the truth.
She was not liking the doorbell ringing so we turned off the lights and took Baileigh T-or-T, then she(Baileigh) got sick on someone's porch, so that cut the night really short.
Im about to call it a night and hope for a better tomorrow.
Thanks again, you guys are the best!!
-
I missed this post earlier. Sorry that Kira and Baileigh are feeling puny. I hope they both feel better tomorrow.
I have pulled apart/crushed antibiotics and mixed them in with food to get my two to take them. I haven't ever had a problem with them having a decreased potency.
Big hugs to all of you.
-
Oh dear lord. that sounds awful. I would have freeked out.
I hope Kira feels better soon.

Good Morning,
Re: "New" Intern. Keep remembering the definitive "NEW" >:( 2 legged kids wake up with blazing fevers and horrible earaches, eye infections all the time ::) Don't let it get to you. We know what kind of loving dog mom you are--and our opinions are the only opinions that matter ;D
My neighbor uses those little ??? dog treat pouches for meds ??? She's a Vet Tech, and she said tons of their clients use the pouches. I hope Kira feels better today.
-
Sorry about Kira! I hope she is on the mend and feeling better very soon. Sending hugs & good thoughts to all of you!

How is Kira feeling today? I hope the improvement continues.
-
Sorry you guys have had such a crappy start to the weekend. Hopefully this morning you awake to everyone feeling much better. Give Kira a big hug from us and let us know how she is doing!!
-
Poor Kira! I hope she's feeling better today!!!!
P.S. That vet intern needs a good 'ol kick in the pants!!!! :)
-
Cripes! I would be beside myself if I woke up to my pups looking & acting like that. Kudos to you for keeping it together as much as you did.
I don't think the vet intern meant any offense by his statement. Animals can be really good about hiding infirmities because, in the wild, they would immediately lose favor with the pack if they got ill. So, infections can be present without necessarily manifesting themselves and, thus, go "untreated".
Sounds like you need a wine-night - sick pups, sick kids, sheesh! I'm sending you good-healing vibes. You need 'em.
Hope Kira and Baleigh are both feeling better today.
-
poor thing. Sending tons of healing vibes and hugs for a speedy recovery.
-
She is doing much better today! Her tail is wagging again and her ears are erect. Still guarding the right side of her head, more so from Gunner than us.
Baileigh has strep and hubs thinks he has it now too, so they went too the urgent care clinic and are on antibiotics.
My house is bleach clean though!
I got to miss the cleaning frenzy however, I had to work today :P :D
Thank you again so much for the support, you guys are the only ones who really understand what it's like to truly care for your pets as family.
