Babies of almost ANY breed are just adorable - are they not?

Can you imagine holding this little one in your hand - wow!
Look at those cute little feet, let alone that tiny face, lol.
Wonder what my Bryce would do with it.  Hope he wouldn't think it was one of his 'Cuz' toys...

I have a "thing" for hedgehogs. I just love them. Some friends of mine in England designed their whole garden to attract and support them (complete with little hedgehog houses) and I LOVE being there.

They sell them in pet stores in some states (not in CA), but they're really shy animals and being a pet his highly stressful on them. Much as I'd adore one, I would feel bad about basically torturing an animal to fulfill my own needs.

Besides, I have dogs, what else so I really need?

Oooo, that sounds cool!  I want to go!  I love hedgehogs. I think they are just the cutest little things. But those feet are way too much. I just want to kiss them!

Um...I wanna go too!!! They're soo cute!! yea, could never have 'em in CA...but still...

They are so totally cute!!
and some actually adapt to pethood really well.  When I worked at the zoo, we had 3 that we used for educational purposes.  I usually took 2 out when doing presentations.  One so you could see what they looked like in a ball.........a nd the other that never went into a ball b/c she was so tame.

their faces are too cute! But they have a pretty particular diet as they are omnivores.  So they do need meat/insects in their diet, as well as fruits/vegetables.

I used to raise hedgies ,I miss them so much !

Actually though , if raised from very tame parents , they make WONDERFUL pets . A tame hedgie will wake up any time they hear you come into the room . They are basically blind but have a great sence of smell and will search you out . Even cuddle up next to you and take a nap ! Only when frightened by something will they roll up into a ball . So it's not stressful at all being a pet , if tame that is . They also LOVE to run on a wheel all night long . Great pets  :) All of mine died of old age .

I don't want to seem stupid, but what kind of critter is a hedge hog? I have always thought they were cute but I have never seen a baby and didn't know they could be a pet. How big do they get? Is the ball they turn into soft or prickly?

They make very interesting pets.  I considered getting one for awhile, but I'm not all that into nocturnal pets anymore....... ..although I do have 2 rats so I guess I contradict myself........ lol.

They don't get particularly big, you can still hold an adult in one hand.  And yes, the ball is quite prickly so if balled, handle with care.  But contrary to what some people think, their spines do not release like a porcupine, they will just poke you.

They do the cutest thing though when threatened.  While being curled up into a ball, they will lurch and spit.  Its a really funny sound.  I'm assuming to poke whatever is threatening them.  I always got a big kick out of them doing that.

And they can come in a variety of colors, including albino.  I may still get one down the road.  My old manager in MN had 2.  She fed them cat food along with their other diet.

Two rats!! As opposed to mice?

That's really interesting. I never knew. I would love to see one in person. Especially when it spits! haha

I have always loved little bitty animals with pointy noses. Except for Luke, of course, who has a big mug.

They don't really spit , it's more of a HUFFING PUFFING sound . hehe it is cute . They also do another weird thing that no one really knows why they do it . If they smell something really interesting on your hands , or if you feed them something they haven't smelled before ,they will start foaming at the mouth and then will procede to try to cover their bodies in the foam . It's really funny to watch because it's so crazy !

Yep , they come in all sorts of colors ,I had plain salt and peppers , chocolates , albinos , and pintos (my favorite!) !

Many of the top hedgie breeders will not feed commercial hedgie food to there's . The prefer a mix between several adult cat foods ( the good brands ; Chicken soup , innova , etc) that's what I did  :)
