: Halloween Costume Ideas/Pictures please?!?!?
: SwissysRock August 26, 2005, 07:18:16 AM
Hey all,

This will be Riley's 1st Halloween with us and I'd LOVE to dress him up but I have no idea as what!  Any ideas/suggestions for big dog costumes?  PS...I'd love to see some of your furbaby's past Halloween pictures!  :D

I was thinking of a few ideas for Spike this is his first Hallows eve Spike does not seem to mind having things put on him as long as it is not in his eyes.
1. dress him up like Scooby pretty easy just a aqua collar and a Scooby tag but I was going to dress up like Daphne.
2. Get a saddle and bridle and me dress up like a cowgirl
3. A ballerina (but Pierre has vetoed that idea)
4. A prisoner with the stiped shirt and a plastic ball and chain. and me as a guard
5. old lady in a moo-moo like Scooby had on in the second Scooby movie.

As you can see Halloween is my favorite holiday even before Christmas. I am 26 and still love to dress up even if it is just to had out candy.
I'm just a big kid!

This will be Kiah's first Halloween also. I was saying to my hubby just the other that we need to start thinking about costumes and then I saw this post. What a great idea!

I was going to dress my daughter & son as Jessie & Woody from the movie Toy Story & dress Samson as the horse Bullseye...Now that I have two Pyrs, my daughter is going to be Little Bo Peep, the dogs are going to be sheep & my son is going as The Big Bad Wolf...lol!

Thanks SPIKESMOMMY, those are some great ideas.  I never thought to have matching costumes, but now I'm definitely doing that!  Just gotta work on Riley not getting so excited every time the doorbell rings and scaring the crap outta little kids!  LOL.

GYPS! I love it! OMG! I was Little Bo Peep last year, and Mark was my sheep! hehehee! He was so cute! If I can find a pic somewhere, I'll post it.

We've never dressed Cabeza up for Halloween. I don't know why....I guess its cuz I always have to go somewhere that he can't go on Halloween. Maybe I'll do it this year.

Last year we tried to dress zoey up as a little devil, but she grew out of it in the weeks between buying it and Halloween  :o

This year we probably won't do a Halloween costume unless there is a dog-friendly halloween event happening around here.

Hmmmm, we loved to dress Cabo up for Halloween and he had a super-high tolerance for it.  Don't think I have any pictures, though.  For his last Halloween, he was a wizard.   :'(

I have only dressed Ranger up once and he hated it so badly that I think the only thing he is going to dress up as this year is the big tan and white monster he normally is.  He certainly won't be going out of the house in this...

LOL!  I just looked at that picture again after I posted it, and look how much he hates me right then.  Look at his eyes.  He is totally sending me a death ray...   :D

LOL Marsi!!!  Its a good things dogs can't talk.  I'd hate to hear what Ranger was muttering in that picture!!!

Jenn

I KNOW!  I had never noticed how psychotic he looks there. The tiara ain't helping, either...

I always wanted to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween and take Cabo with me as my wolf.  I think that is a cute idea if you are going somewhere you can take the doggy, or for answering the door.

I love Halloween - it is my favorite holiday.  When we lived in Michigan, Halloween was HUGE in our neighborhood - when my parents lived near us, one year they had almost 500 kids.  Everyone got really into it and would sit outside all night long in costumes and such.  Here in my neighborhood in San Diego, it is just kinda meh....   We dressed up last year, and the neighbors just looked as us as if to say "Whatever, freaks!"

So, please people, dress up your dogs in elaborate costumes.  Do it for those of us that can't!   :D

Oh Jenn, that is so funny!  Yeah, Halloween in Dearborn rocked.  The place I worked, the Henry Ford, had the best Halloween night events ever, including a person in a Headless Horseman costume that would ride through the fields on a giant black Percheron, chasing Ichabod Crane.

My co-worker at Sea World once dressed up for Halloween dress-up day there, and they called an unexpected staff meeting, to which he was required to go.  Everyone else in the meeting was in a suit and tie, and he was dressed like Abraham Lincoln, complete with fake cardboard beard and mole.   ;D

OMG, I just had the mental image of Kizmet in a little puppy costume!   You simply MUST dress him up for his first Halloween!

The story behind these pictures ... My son-in-law never really warmed up to my Cairn terrier, much to Max's dismay. I always would tease and try to get him to pay attention to Max. So last year my s-i-l won best costume w/ his cowboy costume. So I found this costume for Max and dressed him then took his pic then for Christmas I gave my s-i-l a double frame and signed the card "To my hero, love Max" ;D

We found the cutest bumble bee outfit when bryce was smaller.  Adorable.
It was actually on sale in the toddlers section.  It had a bulb body with four holes and wings and an antenae type hat thing with little balls on the end of the antena.

They make them for larger children so maybe you could find something on sale.  It was cute as anything.
Wish I had pictures.

We haven't really done the halloween thing (except for one year when Madison decided that a little straw cowboy hat was HERS and no one else could touch it (pictures are somewhere on the computer), but for the past two years we've gone to a greyhound picnic that has a costume contest.
Last year we only had Madison and it was olympic time (woo!) so we dressed her as an olympian (toga, toga, toga!) with the olive branch head dress and everything.
This year we had (it was actually yesterday) Madison AND Moonshine... the theme was nautical so we dressed Madison as a Mermaid (get it? the movie Splash!) and Moonshine as a sailor (pics to come!)...

The sailor outfit was great... but like everyone has said, I'd just go buy a big little kids outfit and make some changes so it will fit.  Spencers (usually in a mall) has dog costumes, but they just go over the necks... nothing special...

I think this year, Mads and Moo may go as Ragedy Anne and Andy (so we can re-use the sailor costume)...

I can't believe that someone has not posted this picture here at BPO so I guess I'll do it...

This is not my picture nor my dogs.  I think it was taken in Alabama at a dog club meeting.  Never the less it's the cutest thing I've seen in a while.  It's about 2 or 3 years old.
