Hey there,
Has there been any talk about re-scheduling our So. California Get Together?
Samson and I would love to meet our So. Calif. friends.
Barb
-
I wanna come too!
-
i dont
-
NO IM KIDDING, YES I DO
-
We wanna come too!!! ;D
-
Yeah! Someone- I nominate Barbara- needs to tell us when & where and we'll be there.
-
I'll come too!!
-
When and where is the SoCal gathering to be held? Phoenix is only a 6 hour (or so) car trip to Los Angeles, so we could think about going, too, depending on location and timing.
-
Chester and Cowboy and I are in!!!! Whoopee!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Vegas isn't to far I might be able to come also
-
I think the date should be set sooner than later so that we don't have the same problem that we had with the first attempted mee-n-greet.
-
Okay....what about the last weekend in Sept. at Dog Beach in Huntington Beach.....or the San Pedro Dog park????
-
Good- September 24-25? That would work for us! The following weekend we will be in Vegas to celebrate Michael & Mark's 30th birthday!
-
Either the 24th or 25th are good here. Jabear, we're going to be in Las Vegas that following weekend as well! How funny! We have friends coming in from England and thought it would be fun to show them the "other side"!!!
-
wow...sounds real exciting!!! any sponsors for air tickets for us huh??:P
Gin & RuM
-
Any other date would work too...I just thought the earlier the better but whenever is fine. I am in favor of any date suggested. The dates I threw out were just a suggestion.
-
I am going to try and make it down...any of you guys coming to Vegas - would love to meet up..let me know.
Timmie
-
24th/25th should work for me too!
-
The 24th/25th work for us too. :) Other days are okay too...
-
The 24th/25th might work for us. What location, though? And, do we have a motel that takes pets, or are we all on our own for that? (I have family in SoCal, so it's not a big deal, but if we had a pet-friendly motel, that would probably be easier.)
-
Check on www.dogfriendl y.com
We probably need to decide on a location first, though. WHAT FUN!!!!!
-
This is going to be so much fun. We will be staying with my bro/sis-in-law so a hotel is not needed for us. I can't wait. Now...where & what time??
-
Huntington Dog Beach is great....but maybe the non-swimmer dogs might be happier at a dog park? There's a big dog park in Redondo Beach (off 190th Street....two blocks east of Pacific Coast Highway). Any other suggestions???
-
oh i want the beach! angus is terrified of water, and i wanna see him shake lmao!!!
no im kidding....i want the beach, but just cuz its beautiful, and there's still sand!
i vote beach!
-
Okay....me too! Chester and Cowboy have never seen the waves!!!
-
OH I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THE MIL AND LITTLE DOG BROTHERS!
-
WOOOHO~FDIL!!! Yippee!!! and grand-pups! How fun will it be! Can we have the bachelorette party before the groom knows what's up????
-
YESSSSSSSSSS PLEASEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEE
-
I vote for the beach too..anytime I can get to see waves I wanna.
-
OKAY! It sounds like we've narrowed it to Sept. 24 or 25 (or both ;D??) at Huntington Dog Beach. Right???
-
Woo-hoo! Sasha is so excited! ;D
-
how i wish i can take the dogs out to a OC beach right now.... 1 more year here in Chi-town and back we go...
-
Can we get a map, time, etc. for the Huntington Dog Beach? Especially for those of us who are going to try to come in from 'way out of town/out of state, it's not as clear where we're going as it is for those who are living in SoCal.
-
I will try to make it - I might have to fly into San Francisco that weekend for a trade show.... :(
But, I would LOVE to see everybody and love on their doggies!
-
the 24th works best for me... we have obedience classes on sunday, but if people want to do it then, i could always jstu leave for class for a few minutes. here is a link to the huntington dog beach webpage......
http://www.dogbeach.org/
-
oh, and the FAQ section has lots of good info, including a list of near by dog friendly hotels!!!!!
http://www.dogbeach.org/faq.html
-
I can't tell from the FAQ...do we need to become members to visit the dog beach, or is that just if we wanted to get easier/cheaper parking?
-
i am 99% sure you don't, but i have never been there before so i will leave that for someone else to answer!
-
Nope...don't need to be a member. The membership is to support the dog beach and there may be some advantage with parking.....bu t I'm not too sure of that. You also get A T-SHIRT if you are a member!!!
-
I wanna join for the t-shirt! I love this dog beach and can't wait to be ther again with all of you!
-
I wanna join just for the shirt. I love it there & can't wait to be there with all of you.
-
Have we decided on a day and time and location? There is a lifeguard station (at least there was last time I was there, right at the bottom of the walkway. Maybe in the water (or out, depending on the dog ;)) in front of the lifeguard station?
-
I think the 24th (Saturday) is the best! I like the idea of meeting at the lifeguard tower but I dunno what time though.
-
Well, gang, gas is over $3.20 a gallon out here, and my husband has said that we just can't afford to drive anywhere we don't HAVE to go, and for some reason he doesn't think that my driving out from Phoenix to SoCal to meet other big dogs and their owners is a have-to-do, merely a nice-to-do (go figure ;D). So, unfortunately, I have to count myself out of the gathering...th is time. Hope everyone has a BLAST and I will do my best to make the next one!
-
gas is under $3 here.... maybe you can say you are goint to go to a cheaper gas station you found... and not mention the california part..... ;D
-
Wow, it sounds like you guys are going to have a blast!!! I wanna come too! :'( How about you all drive to Iowa and we can all meet at our muddy river!! ;) Have fun!!!
Andi
-
We definitely want to come! It's about a 4 hour drive for us--maybe we could meet in the early afternoon (12-1 ish)? Will it be too hot then???
-
I wouldn't think it would be hot on the beach unless we have Santa Anas. Probably a good idea to bring lots of water, though, cuz there will be lots of running around! ;D
-
12ish works for us! So who all is coming for sure?
For sure!
Michael, Jaime & Bear
Nicki, Cody, & Angus
Need to confirm:
Newflvr
Jessdryden
ZooCrew
Kristen
Jeanne
Grumpybunny
Brigid67
Baileyboy
-
i am coming for sure!!! with Shakespeare. Boyfriend might or might not come (he is in a cast.... sand and casts don't mix well).
I am SOOOO excited!!
-
Yep....Chester and I are in FOR SURE!! Cowboy is iffy depending on how he's doing. We're in the middle of a meds adjustment so we can't have him stressed until he regulates. But Chester has enough energy for anybody. Should I try to bring Nikkers fiance?? Probably be next to impossible but it sure would be fun!!! Hanging with Mom is not the most exciting idea on the planet!!!
-
Definitely count us in! Sasha is soooo excited! ;D
-
We are definitely in!
-
Woohoo! Newfs on the loose with a few others to break up the monotiny. ;D And yah- Nicki totally needs to meet her future husband already! ;)
-
my boyfriend has always wanted a newfie, maybe that will give him more incentive to taga along cast and all.
Shakespeare certainly is going to be the runt of the bunch!!! (a tiny 50lbs as of last week)
-
my boyfriend has always wanted a newfie, maybe that will give him more incentive to taga along cast and all.Â
Shakespeare certainly is going to be the runt of the bunch!!! (a tiny 50lbs as of last week)
Let's just put a big trash bag over his cast and park him in an elevated position to watch the fun! You DON'T want to SIT on the beach with a bunch of bounding big WET paws!!! ;)
-
So far so good with the count! It seems like it will be an awesome bunch!
Kirsten- what is with you and the casts at meet-n-greet time? If I recall, last time it was Shakespear in a cast. ???
-
Has anybody checked with the people who have the beach?
The Dog Beach People?
Maybe they will be able to do something to make us feel welcome..
I'd hate for all of us to show up and find the joint closed!
Tulsa
-
I just sent a request for information to the 'Dog Beach People".
Asking if the 24th and 25th of Sept. is good for our get together.
Don't know if, or when I'll get a reply.
Will post it as soon as I hear.
John
-
I am a maybe - have to check my work schedule...I will have it by this weekend so I should know by then
-
Got a reply to my question from the Dog Beach Guy.
He said it's very crowded on weekends, about a 20 minute wait just to park, and bring plenty of quarters for the meters. A quarter is good for 10 minutes!
FYI
John
-
Oh no! Poor Gunther!!
As for the crowding and parking at the beach...Michae l and I always park a little farther away to park for free then walk to the beach. On the way back, if Bear & I are tired he will get the car and bring us valet service. It's great. I honestly don't think the "dog" part of the beach will too bad if it is early enough though!
-
Don't be discouraged, the parking problem isn't exclusive to the dog beach.. it's the entire Huntington Beach area. The parking meters are the same - which pretty much goes for all of So Cal - there is no free parking. It always take a little more time to get in and out of the area but it's alot of fun. The city of Huntinton Beach is beautiful with tons of great shops and restaurants. The dog beach is really the best dog beach on the west coast as there are so many dogs and dog friendly people. Just adjacent to the dog beach is of course the main beach at the pier and there are usually thousands of people - definately crouded but a lot of fun!
-
There is also that dog-friendly restaurant near the dog park in Huntington Beach....is it Mile Square Park????
-
The life guard tower just at the bottom of the entrance ramp is probably the easiest place to meet and we could walk down to the middle tower a bit later....but it is narrow there depending on the tide....at high tide there's not much beach. Do you think we should meet a bit earlier to try to get parking??? Maybe 10:30 - 11:00 ish???
-
My first Newf, Otis ALWAYS sat in the front seat of my car.....couldn't make him stay in the back. I COMPLETELY lost my brains one day and got right in to the carpool lane. Fortuntely, one of my sons was in another car right behind me and he called my cell and started yellilng at me that "no matter what you think, Mom, OTIS IS NOT A PERSON!!!! You CAN'T be in the carpool lane" I was embarrassed while completely doubled over laughing. Any creature that weighs 150 lbs SHOULD be considered a person!!
I'll check the map and look to see what tower it is. I haven't been down there in months so maybe I'll need to do a little field trip to check it out ;D!!!
-
I completely agree Newflvr! Big dogs SHOULD be considered carpool material. :D
-
I did a "drive-by" today and Lifeguard station #22 has far more parking spots than the place I was thinking of....#24. Today, being mid week AND the first week of school, I got the last place closest to #24....so I drove down to the next parking area at #22 and there were tons of places.....and yes, all metered at 25 cents for 10 minutes. GRRRRRRR :o I don't really know where the free parking is unless you park on a side street further up and RUN across Pacific Coast Highway....sca ry thought.
Also, on Goldwest BLVD on the way back to the 405 Frwy there is a dog friendly cafe with a large patio area we could stop at when the dogs are all tuckered out. Just a thought!
-
So far so good with the count! It seems like it will be an awesome bunch!
Kirsten- what is with you and the casts at meet-n-greet time? If I recall, last time it was Shakespear in a cast. ???
Tom actually got his cast put on a day before Shakespeare did..... They were quite a pair for awhile!
-
Too funny! Are you just beating up the boys in your life or what?? ;D
And....I think we will have an official BPO sign so that everyone can find us. Woohoo!!
-
FMIL.....is my brad coming? have you bought him the newfie pups from us yet? if so, i think i'll take one home with me okay? okay, great thanks! i've also decided to stay at your house, so we can bond.
OH IT WILL BE SWELL LOL
-
Of course, mydear!!! Nothing will be spared! You are Of COURSE staying here!!! How's our boy Angus? Did you get him fitted with fake ones yet??
You may laugh, but I actually am going to see if Brad wants to just take a little run down there just to see what's what. The young man works too hard and he needs a few giggles. Don't wear your wedding dress, though 'k? That might scare him off!
-
i could never wear the dress, it needs 20 people behind it, and i think we need to focus on the dogs, not my dress! can't wait LMAO.
-
WHAT???? You aren't going to have the dogs hold your train???? What's up with that??? Cowboy walks slowly and so respectfully, and I bet Cody would do a perfect job as well. Angus and Chester could be ring dogs!!! ;D
-
OH PERFECT! THAT WOULD BE GREAT! and since the little pups youre getting us are girls, they can each carry a flower down the isle for us!
oh how great our day will be!
-
Can't wait!!! It will SO much fun.....and so will our day at the beach!!!
-
It will be....all the doggies at the beach! This is gonna be the best meet-n-greet ever!
-
Uh Huh!!!! Is there any thing special that we need to bring besides water and poo-bags??
-
presents for the birthday boys....cody and bear are borthday boys together! could it be more perfect lol :P
-
When are their birthdays?? Cowboy, darling husband youngest son, Dirk and BRAD all have birthdays in the next couple of weeks! What a coincidence!!! I call: PARTY!!!!
-
cody is the 14th, and he'll be the big 28.......and bears is the 19th, and he'll be the big 21!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOO
we like:
SUVs
TVs
DVDs
new furniture
new laptops
newf puppies
REAL saint puppies
maid service
and jaba's contribution.. ..$1,000,000,000,000
k great, thanks
-
FYI, bear wants a hug blah blah blah
cody wants a full sized human bed
-
THANKS FOR THE SHOPPING LIST!!! I never would have guessed! I'll be sure to have it all wrapped up and delivered to the beach! 'K???
Cowboy wanted his manly parts back and since I can't do that for him, he's just going to get a big juicy bone...without Chester jumping on his head to get it! What ever you get for Cody and Bear....THAT'S what Cowboy wants! His birthday is Oct. 10 so don't worry about sparing any expense. He really likes nice things! Fabulous taste, that dog!
-
You know September is really going to be an expensive month! 3 dog birthdays, family birthdays, back to school.....she esh. I do need to win the lotto juts to keep up with the presents. ;D
-
We could just do nice cards with kind thoughts and paw-prints. Think I could sell it to the almost 19 year old and the almost 25 year old??? Never mind the guy who's birthday we won't talk about (darling husband!). We're getting old together :D :D :D
-
I think 12:00 may NOT be a good time ... mainly because at that time of day you will NEVER find a place to park. The H.B. Dog Beach is a very popular place for surfers too. In addition to that ... YES it is still hot here. 12 Noon would be miserably HOT.
If it is scheduled for later in the afternoon, the dogs (and you) would be much more comfortable.
JMO
Barbara
P.S. I will be going too.
-
Well next weekend will be here before we know it...so what time are we gonna meet? I am not really picky and can do it at any time. Barbara said she thinks 12 might be hot but since they are going to be at the water it might not be to bad IMO. I also checked the weather and it said next Saturday it will be 73 degrees- perfect. What do you think??
-
any time works for us... but parking really will be tough mid day....
-
Why don't we shoot for a bit earlier...mayb e 10:30 - 11:00. Maybe we can beat the parking probems and if, in fact, it is cooler, maybe there won't be as many people on the beach (fingers crossed!) ;)
-
We definitely want to come! :) The earliest we could be there would be 9 am, but others could meet earlier and we could try to catch up later.
-
I agree about the traffic..it stinks! If we do it at like 10:30 we could all play for a while then do lunch together? :-\ That would be fun!!
-
WAY fun!!! There's a dog-friendly cafe on Golden West on the way back to the 405....I think it's called the Park Bench. Want me to call and see if we can get reservations? for how many?? It's on the edge of a big park and I think there is a dog park there as well. I can check it out if you'd like!
-
How fun! A morning at the beach and then an afternoon romp in the park. I love the idea!
Michael, Bear & I are a defininte!
-
Yeah! The ZooCrew will be on hand!
-
Hey everyone, Java would like to come, he loves the beach and adores swimming. We took him to Waikiki Beach all the time as a puppy before we moved here. We've never been to the HB dog park, we usually go to the Long Beach Dog Park, if everyone is concerned with it being crowded and cost of parking. The Dog Beach area at Long Beach is hardly ever crowded, and the parking is free if you go to the right section. But either way it sounds fun, so if we can we'll try to make it. What is the official final time and meeting place? Let us know!
-
I'm with Javapuppy...wh at is the official meeting place in H.B. and time?
-
Me too! We've never been to either beach, so either sounds okay. We're just looking forward to meeting everyone and their doggies! How about meeting at 10:30 am?
-
10:30 sounds good to me.... are we meeting at the north enterance or the south? I would love to go get lunch after!!!! With such big dogs we are going to dominate the place.....
As for the long beach dog park, parkign is much easier, but it is a lot smaller of an area.... supposedly no where near as cool as the HB one. We go to the LB one all the time, but if the HB one is cooler, then we shoudl go there for all the visitors!!
-
We can be there at 10:30.
Looking forward to meeting all of you!
-
The middle parking area is just above lifeguard station #22. That seems to be the biggest lot. Maybe there at 10:30?
-
I will plan on being there around 10:30 too. But to be perfectly honest with you, this is a very popular surfer beach and if you arrive any time after 9:00 AM, it is very difficult to find a place to park.... even driving up a half a block on Goldenwest and parking in the residential area, it is difficult to park. So, if I can't find any place to park @ 10:30, I won't be able to visit with you all.
If you park in the metered parking lots, bring a roll of quarters ($10.00)... you will probably use them all.
-
Thanks for the information. We'll be there with a bright pink sign (homemade of course) that will alert everyone of the location on the beach. They better watch out because the invasion of hte big dogs is coming there way! WooHoo!! I am so excited that I can hardly contain myself for this weekend!
Any news on the restaurant?
-
I just joined but Jake and Molly would LOVE to join everyone, both 6 months older than in the photo, They are so excited about having other big dogs to play with at the beach, they just can't control themselves!Â
-
Welcome Jakesmom!
Look forward to meeting you this weekend.
-
What cuties! Welcome Jakesmom! :)
-
Ok...so on Saturday we have....
5 Newfs (Bear, Chester, Cowboy, Bailey, Sasha)
1 Labs (Molly)
2 Mixed Breeds (Shakespear, Jake)
2 Great Danes (Gunther, Samson)
1 Husky (Keiko)
1 German Shepherd (Java)
Are Willow, Gunner & Irie coming?? Is there anyone I missed??
-
Cody and Angus aren't coming? Has Nikkers given them away :'(?
-
She is not sure because Angus has his first obedience class on Saturday morning at 9:30 and she might have to work also. She is for sure working on Sunday morning but Saturday is still up in the air...so she is iffy on the drive. I am hoping that she will be able to come though.
-
Samson (Great Dane) and I (Barbara) will be there
-
Just to be sure, we are meeting at 10:30 am in the middle parking area (near lifeguard station #22) at the Huntington Beach Dog Beach on Saturday. Right? We're so excited! Sasha can hardly wait! :D
-
That's what I understand too! Yea!! It will be such fun! Chester and Sasha (as the Newf puppies in the group) will have SO much fun!
-
1 day, 19 hours and counting.....w e can't wait!
-
Okay, this may seem like a dumb question, but how do I get there?Â
Once I start hitting heavier traffic, I don't know how well I will be at reading road signs.  ::)
Coming from the south (San Diego, right?) Take the 5 to the 405 North toward Los Angeles. Stay on the 405 to the Golden West off ramp. You'll need to turn toward the ocean but since I haven't taken that off ramp, I'm not too sure which way (it would be great if you check www.mapquest.c om just to make sure). Stay on Golden West for maybe 8 - 10 miles?? right down to Coast Highway (it dead ends there). Turn Right on Coast Highway and you'll see the beach on your left. Just before you go down the hill, you'll see a banner that says Huntington Beach Dog Beach and then take a u - turn where ever you can. Parking will be on your right....25 cents for 10 minutes so bring LOTS of quarters.
Do double check with www.mapquest just to make sure ;D
-
Make sure you all bring your own fresh water for your dog. There is no fresh water at the beach.
Also, bring your own poop bags. YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR OWN DOG!!! There are trash cans available.
Barb
-
I can't go - have to work all weekend. :'( You guys have lots of fun and maybe I caN MAKE IT FOR THE NEXT ONE.
-
I can't go - have to work all weekend.  :'( You guys have lots of fun and maybe I caN MAKE IT FOR THE NEXT ONE.
I'm SO sorry!!! I know we are all so looking forward to getting us and all the big paws together! We'll just have to plan the next one tomorrow!!
-
WAAAAHHHHH!  :'(
I can't go cause of this whole tradeshow/San Francisco thing. I am so jealous of everyone that gets to go... Give all the doggies hugs and kisses from me, and tell them that their Auntie Grumpy will see them SOMEDAY, maybe...
-
I'm sorry you and Willow can't come! We'll have to have another!
-
I don't like it when people can't come...I am sad. :( But on a positive note it just makes it that much more important to have another. ;D
-
I'm so excited!!!!!! I'm counting.....1 6 hours left!!!!!
-
Woo-hoo! We're so excited too! See you all tomorrow! ;D
-
10 hours left!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Maybe we could organize a Vegas get together. The weather is awesome this time of year....
BIG PAWS in SIN CITY!!!!!! That sonds like fun!
-
FUN! Are there dog parks there? I know the District in Henderson is dog friendly...any other places?
