All the sudden it seems like in my area and the surrounding states everyone is dumping their great danes in the pounds! Look at this huge guy! He is in Bloomington IN at the shelter! Poor guy! He hardly fits in the kennel!!! :'(

Awwwww...heis cute. Strange about everyone geting rid of their danes...can't even imagine.

Is someone new breeding them and selling them to all comers?? sounds and looks, form the picture) like people getting a sweet dane puppy then discovering 6-9 months down the road that they have no clue how to deal with him!! Shame he's not closer.

Too bad that seems to happen on a regular basis. Not just for danes, but for giant breeds in general. People don't know how to handle them, or their quick growth, or know how to train them, which is scary if they decide to keep them.

He's such a gorgeous boy!! I hope he finds a good forever home!

That's the Dane puppies EVIL stage, which is when most of them end up in rescue. Up to that point all their energy is spent growing, which is why all tiny Dane puppy owners think that their dog is perfect. They don't train them, and all of the sudden they have typical puppy problems. Just at 60-100 pounds. Many people think it'll be cool to have a big dog. Then they realize how big 120-180 pounds really is, and they don't really want one anymore. I would say about 70% of Danes that come in rescue come with the complaint "I didn't know he'd get this big". Idiots. They aren't willing to make the adjustments that living with a big dog nessecitates, and the dog suffers for it.

I'm lucky in that I only have 1 local dane to look at and drool over on petfinder. I can't believe some people and what they do to animals. It makes me sad.
