Hi Ices Dad.... your boy is such a cutie, the puppy pic is adorable. And you are so right, danes can grow sooooo hmmmmm how to put this to not make ice unhappy lol..... hmmmmm *thinking* they can grow so unfortunate  ;D Be all legs and just a tiny little body on top of them. They will fill out though, just give it time. The bigger the dog, the longer it takes for them to be fully grown and have the width and all.

One of the danes I had years ago, Tina, she was allllll legs and had the sadest looking chest, people giggled and said, you couldnt even try and squeeze a paper inbetween her front legs. She was called the "picket fence" she grew up to be a pretty girl, but she was never showed as a young dog lol..... she did not too bad as older though. So hang in there ice...... youll be a bit and beefy dog, one day too.

Wow, we've got some big danes here.  Gunther is just about 9 months.  At last weigh in was #109, and I just measured him and he is barely over 32".  I keep waiting for him to have another growth spurt, but I don't think it's going to happen.   :P  I need to get some more current pics of just him w/o his "big" sister.

I'm glad to see that it sounds like Gunther is growing normally.  Since he's been going sooooooo slow the last couple of months, I was afraid he wasn't going to get much bigger.  I will continue to wait for his next growth spurt.  Oh, and I have pics of him under "Gunther's pics".

My spoiled bunch won't even consider a bed.. unless it is for the humans in the house. They congrigate on the couch, or on the floor with me because there is no more room for me on the couch either LOL. I have two huge petbeds in the house, one in Strider's crate that he has no choice but to use, and one in the living room that gets totally ignored.

Boy, I'll tell you, Ice is really getting to be a character  :D When I get on the Computer, he'll bring all his toys into this room, then he'll chew on one for awhile then to another, when he gets bored he'll come over and see what I'm doing! He puts his head under my arm, or brings his toys to me one ayt a time and puts them in my lap, if all else fails he lays his head in my lap and just looks up at me! He  is such a lover! Then he goes for broke  he tucks his neck over my arm and pulls my arm off the key board! lol he's a trip and we love him more than anything! Does any others do this? just us here, Ice and Ices Dad
: Re: Hi New Here, Ices Dad

Hee hee, Ice sounds like such a cutie!

Ranger does a lot of the same things - he HATES when I am on the computer for too long, because I am supposed to pay attention to him!  He will bring toys, flop down on my feet, push his head into my arm, and nudge the computer....  grunting and moaning and complaining the whole time.

I can't even tell you how many times I have been in chat, and everyone has just seem me suddenly disapear after saying "I gotta go, Ranger is driving me crazy."!!   ;D

Great looking dog!  All of my animals (2 Papillons, one Great Pyrenees, 2 cats) hate it when I'm on the computer...or reading..or drawing...or doing anything that takes my full attention away from them!  Right now, I have a cat and a dog shoving my hands away from the keyboard!  Good excuse for any mis-spellings though!

Bella Roo does the same thing!  She'll come into the computer room and it doesn't matter if I've been in here 5 seconds or 5 hours!  She heads right for my elbow, gives it a heave up, and she's in the pettin zone!  She knows that I'm a sucker for paying every minute of attention I have to her, Boomer and our kitty Fatty Fat Cat.  Boomer knows that when I head for the office it's time to warm mommas toes.  He comes in, ducks under the table (instead of a puter desk), and curls up at my feet.  He loves just being near me!

Boy Have I found a God Send! While at Pet Smart Yesterday a salesperson, suggested a Halti to me for Ice, cause I was saying how he tries to pull me when walking, So I bought one, read the manual that comes with it, and put it on ice. I let him walk around the house with it to get used to the feel of it! So I said, lets go for a walk Ice, Energetic as usual off we went! I was amazed he walked right beside me never pulled once!  I took him to the store, he was great, I'm so Proud of Him, he never even pulled with other Dogs around :o) I'm so glad I got one for Him! Makes our trips so much easier! P.S. Ice Loves to Ride in the car, now Walking is enjoyable! Take Care All, Ices Dad

Thats great to know! I will have to invest in one for Kayzer. He loves to chew on his leash when we go walking! I bought him a harness and it works quite well also but for when he is bigger a Halti might be a good idea!
Thanks for the info!

It was Nail Trimming time, He wasn't very Happy, it has been awhile and we all know Danes nails are thick, well he made it and he looks so darn cute with his Blue Bandana they put on him! He was alittle leary of the people but once he relaxed and got to know them? He is just Happy as a Lark now :o) He loves other Dogs and got along good with the other Dogs there! Well just putting on alittle for reading material ;o) Ice says " Hi " and Hopes all his friends are doing good! Take Care, Ices Dad

I know I'm going to have a problem here :o( Ice doesn't settle down, he's a pup all day and night, Hardly ever just relaxes, and ideas or help, or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Ice is a year and a half old but thinks he's about 6 months old! lol I don't want him hurting himself after he gets snipped! Ices Dad

oooh the big snip! :o
I've never had a problem with any of my boys over-doing it... & quite a few of them were very excitable puppies - most were neutered between 6-9 months. I went with short periods of light activity & mandatory rest times just like in the hospital.
Do you crate him? Try to let him out for awhile, & then have him to "take a nap" for an hour (or two). If he's not crated, confine him to an area that's quiet & comfy (where he can't get into anything or hurt himself).
They're pretty good about knowing their limitations, you may be surprised - he may just let you know exactly how much or how little he wants to do.
Keep us posted!

Thanks, Yes we crate him at night and when we leave the house! One thing for sure I'll have to hide his toys, he always throws them and goes after them! And Shakes the heck outta them! He likes his crate so maybe it won't be bad! I hope so! I worry about him,I'll just give him his chew items to keep him busy :o)  Thanks, Ices Dad

When I had my Boomer snipped, he came home and wasn't in any sort of mood to play.  He was a fairly excited puppy, and he didn't even wanna chase the kitty!  Seriously though, he should be fine.  I'd put the toys away for a day or three just until he heals a bit.  He can live without them.  Also, they say not to give them water, so I offered ice on a plate for him to lick that first evening.  Then they're fine to eat/drink freely.  He just layed around and sort of looked pathetic.  In all, it wasn't that difficult to deal with (I'm sure Boomer would say differently if he could talk!).

Frozen carrots are a new favorite around here with the Newfs...the great huge carrots that usually go to horses ( ;))...just pop them in the freezer and they like gnawing on those.

Also stuff a Kong with peanut butter and dog cookies and put that in the freezer...anot her BIG time favorite.  That's the treat they get if I'm going to be out for a few hours!!!  They don't seem to miss me at all if they get that! ::)

All treats are eaten like butter come to think of it.  However, kongs filled with gooey stuff last a few minutes longer.  My Bella closes her eyes and just enjoys trying to get to all the goodies.  She can't just gobble it up.

I'm sorry too!  I'm not on as much as I was due to work schedules so I never even saw the post.  How often are you taking him out to socialize?  Also, I can't remember...is he neutered?  If not then it could be the testosterone protectiveness .  I would definately get him out as often as humanly possible though, with LOADS of treats.  Maybe have other people offer him some treats if you think it would be safe.

No not nuetered yet :o( sorry but being off since last march, not this past, a year ago without a paycheck, has been very difficult for my wife and I.... I am unable to take ice for walks cause of my back, my wife can't handle him either :o( He listens good to us but is very agressive with his toys, I can tell him no and he won't touch them and then sometimes he just doesn't listen! I can't afford Lessons, and not being able to walk him really bothers me! He Barks and growls at people outside, I'm really upset but its my fault cause I can't afford training, he's lovable one minute and then growls the next!He will sit for me, will not touch his food till I tell him ok, and I tell him to set when I prepare his food, When given a treat I tell him easy and he's very gentle! Wish I could get him to some training but for now there is no way :o( I know in his heart he wants to be good but when he barks and growls at kids, I'm nervous, we have alot of kids in this neighborhood too, well thats enough for now, sure I'll get yelled at from here but for now this is my situation! We are getting him nuetuered!!!! We hope we can handle him, he can be a good boy and just do a 180 when someone comes around! Now our neighbor guy and his boy can pet him without ice growling at them, cause he remembers them from being around them..... Hope I can get some help on here, suggestions please we love him very much and don't want to lose him but if things don't turn around? We may have to give him to someone that can walk him and teach him, i mean train him? We hope to do whats right for ice! He's a very smart dog but not being able to walk him really isn't helping him.... We would consider giving him to a trainer maybe, if things would be better for him, we love his quirks, his expressions and his loving attitude! But to see him get agressive to people and especially kids, really bothers my wife and I! Thanks for Listening, Ices Dad

Hi Ices Dad.  I didn't pay attention to your post at first cause I thought you were introducing yourself to somebody.

Back pain:  I totally understand.  Even though the walking is good for you, having a leash pulling on your arm would be devastating!

Ices age?  Ice may be entering that teenage time I've heard so much about.  Seems like all dogs MUST go through it.

Perhaps there's a rescue program in your area?  Maybe if you contacted them and explained the situation they may be able to offer assistance (like sending a volunteer over to walk Ice for you) or even, if it gets to be too much, take Ice in for a couple months.  After all, they's probably much rather help in a situation like yours than have to find a home for a dog totally out of control.

I'm curious about what area you're in.  I live in Houston.  I'd be happy to walk Ice for you if you live anywhere around here.

I'm glad you posted this problem on here.  There are LOTS of wise (and generous) big paw moms and dads here (like YOU).
