I just saw my first GP in person. OMG He was just beautiful. BIG too. I have seen lots of pictures but I have never seen one.
I think I want one. LOL Someday.
OH Yah the one I saw LIVES with sheep. He is the best sheep dog these people have ever had. I told them about big paws hope they come and post pictures.

They are really beautiful aren't they? I'm glad that you saw one that you are gonna add to your family someday.
-
Being that we do so many All-Breed dog shows I have seen many GP's ... they are a beautiful dog and seem to have a great temperament ...
-
I breed them!! They are Americas best kept secret as they are WONDERFUL pets as well as being guards. You can have 2 or three of these in the house and they are less trouble than one smaller dog!
-
They really are beautiful Coonie...I might be just a tad biased though...lol!
-
Thanks for that post, I am working on my husband now for pyr # 3. do you have photos posed of your babies.

Would a Great Pyrenees heard cows the same as sheep?? I think my Dad needs one of these dogs on his farm. LOL He has a older collie ,a mix breed and his girlfriend just bought a poodle. :-\ so im sure they could use a real farm dog. Apparently there are quite a few around I just havent seen them. Ill definately be keeping my eyes open.

Coonie, Pyrs arn't herding dogs that are livestock gaurd dogs...The only time they will "herd" is too push the livestock back into a corner if there is a threat...The senior pack members will confront & ward off the threat & the younger dogs will hold the livestock back...Ideally to gaurd livestock efficiantly, 4 dogs would be used, 2 to take on the predator (s) & 2 to keep the livestock back safely...Where Samson came from though there were only 2 adults that worked...Samso n's breeder has a sheep farm & also raises Border Collies which she used to herd.
-
That's very interesting. Do you think they would consider a brood of other dogs their "herd" and protect them as well?
-
Pyrs do consider other dogs and family members as their herd.
-
Cool! I'll be there at midnight to steal one of yours!! Hee Hee!!! Or, maybe I'll come get Pippin!!
-
I love your new avatar jj!! Pyrs are great protectors. Kiah came from pyrs that were used to guard sheep. I'm waiting for her instints to kick in. She loves everybody!
-
Nooooooooooooo oooooooooooooo oo, I would lose it even going one day without my babies. But they do love play dates.

Oh, you know I'm joking. I could never do that to another dog lover. However, we really do need to get a "Deep South BPO Day" scheduled, don't we??

Absolutely Jeanne!...Samson & Pippin gaurd everything they consider their "charge"...Cats, bunnies, kids, my hubby, me...If someone gets too close to the house while we are in the yard Samson is at the fence going off & Pippin "holds' us back...lol...H ere is Pippin gaurding his bunnies when they go out in the yard....B.t.w., I don't think you'd stand a chance of taking Samson but Pippin is so sweet...A little sweet talk & he'd be yours...lol!
-
oh, I know it was a joke. Yes we do need a deep south BPO day.

Have had the pleasure of seeing Sugar Bear &Â Dixie Darlin' in person, they are friggin' enormous but very wall mannered and really great looking pups.
I think Lisa handles both of them at the same time for training classes, obviously good at multi-tasking :)
-
Here is Pippin gaurding his bunnies when they go out in the yard
That is such a great picture! He looks so grown up and handsome :-*
-
Thanks Brandon,
Sugar Bear is not almost at 100 lbs and Dixie is 85 lbs. The tough part in class is not having to handle Sugar Bear and Dixie is not being able to do the task for people petting them. It can be a little hard to do a down/stay with 5 people on top of them. I know you have the same thing with Bava. When we go to class I plan at least an extra hour just to walk around the store with them.
Hi Marylee, How are Maggie and Molly doing? I love some of your new photos.
