: Introducing...Our New Boy (Pyr/Kuv x)
: Good Hope December 16, 2005, 10:43:23 AM
...Gabriel.  ;D

He is thought to be a Pyr/Kuv mix.  These photos are from his Petfinder profile.

As you can see, his fur is a bit curly.  However, it is not so curly after his bath, conditioner, and blow-drying yesterday.

We took some other pictures today, after he was outside in the light drizzle and the sprinklers.  I'll post those later; they're not resized yet.  :)

Since my brother's name is also Gabriel, he needs a new name (that's the dog, not the boy ;D), but we haven't picked one yet

He's about seven months old, one month younger than Sapphire.

It's been cool and wet this morning, and those two have had lots of fun chasing each other and playing ball with the boys.  Gabriel (we'll just call him that temporarily) loves my brothers.  Gabriel and Gabriel make a great team.  ;D

Pictures are attached below.

Will you guys STOP showing me all these gorgeous orphans - it's making me broody.

Maremma, Kuvasz, Pyrenees... a big white dog is what I needs.  ;D

haha

He's not an orphan anymore.  He is here to stay!  ;)  He really likes playing outside and prefers being outside at night, which probably has a lot to do with his heavy coat.  His temperament is more like a Pyr than a Kuvasz (he's pretty good with strangers), and he only barks when appropriate - although last night I don't know what he saw that required barking and growling.  Also, he is pretty good about the cat and ignores her unless she runs past him.  Even then he only follows her.  On the downside, he does drool a little, unless he is exited or agitated.  Then, he drools a lot.  He doesn't like crates, so he drools a lot in there and is very noisy.

Just before Katrina hit he was dumped by his owner in a shelter in Lake Charles, LA.  His brother ended up in New England somewhere (NOT your England, Senghe, ;D).  He and his brother were sent to be euthanized, but a transporter came through and offered to take them for no charge and get them into a rescue.  Gabriel (our soon-to-be-renamed boy) ended up in Alexandria, LA, at HSCL in a foster home; we adopted him from them.

Apparently in the Louisiana/Mississippi area, Great Pyrenees/Kuvasz crosses are very popular as working dogs, so we assume that is what he was bred for.

He is so georgous!!!!! I can definately see the pyr in him. Just look at that tail. I'm so happy for you. I remember seeing him on petfinder. I'm so happy that you gave him a forever home. I'm still looking for a playmate for Kiah.

Do you want Kiah to have a puppy or an older playmate?

I would like to rescue a poor furbaby that needs a home preferably 1-3 years old. The right one hasn't come along yet. We don't get many lgd's in this area. I just can't stop looking at petfinder!

Tajsa, the Great Pyr rescue in Lincoln has several listed on Petfinder right now. I'm not sure if you have contacted them or not. Petfinder is how we found Sugar.

YAY! Gabriel is home!! Maybe you could just call him G2!

Or, how about Alex, since he came from Alexandria? or Xander (short for Alexander) or Charles (from Lake Charles)

Awwww - that's such a sad story. Glad he's now got his happy ever after with you.

Oh, this is just so awesome!!  ;D I'm so glad you found him & took him home!  He's really got a sweet expression in his eyes!   :D

That clean face & muddy paws remind me VERY much of Lucy - she loves to play in the mud!  Good thing the dirt just falls off their coats once it's dry!  LOL!

Congratulation s!!!  ;D

Thanks everybody. He's a pretty good boy, no digging or escaping, just puppy chewing and needs obedience for basic commands. He does want to be the alpha dog, though much to my small paws displeasure.  ::) They'll work it out. Gypsy he did give that look Pippin gives to Sammy. The eye thing with curled lip on one side baring teeth, not a peep though. When I tell him to cut it out, he gives me the innocent eyes. Well, we will not have that in our house!

Any way, I'll let you all know what we name him.
