SHE IS FROM FRESNO (SAY HELLO NEXT TIME YOU SEE HER JAIME AND BEAR)......AFTER I TOOK ANGUS TO THE VET I WROTE HER TELLING HER THAT MY VET TOLD ME TO GET IN CONTACT WITH HER AND SEE IF THE OTHER PUPPIES FROM MY LITTER WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, AND TO DOUBLE CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE PARENTS AND SO FORTH....I DID...SHE DIDN'T RESPOND.....I WROTE HER ANOTHER LETTER YESTERDAY SAYING I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM YOU AND WANTED TO KNOW WHAT PROGRESS YOU ARE MAKING WITH TALKING TO THE OWNERS OF THE OTHER PUPPIES....... You obviously don't remember or you wouldn't have asked how my adult dogs are; the mother died when the puppies were 3 days old, so apparently she is not doing too well. Not that it is any of your business anyway, but the father was sold to a couple in Eureka in March; they have had him x-rayed and OSA certified and there is nothing wrong with his hips. So maybe it was just the Mom?? I have been able to contact 9 out of 10 other puppy owners from your litter, and none of them have any problems. Actually, they all suggested (along with one Vet) that your pup may have problems because he was raised in a crate and not given proper exercise growing up, or proper feeding. Do you have a second job as the Puppy Police now??? I hesitated to sell him to someone who lived in an apartment anyway. Remember, I have raised and sold Saints for 15 years, and I have had at least a dozen people come back to me to buy another one after their original Saint died after 10, 11, or 12 years with no problems other than old age. I am so sorry for your puppy.

i have been kinda hot ever since i got home and read that email....but your response made me laugh!
i REALLY am trying to do everything i can for my boy! my vets gave me 4 options, but the main two were total hip replacement (both hips), or put him to sleep.....ther e's not way i can put my baby down (and i MEAN my BABY because he is my KID), so if his hips don't turn around here in a while and i opt for surgery, i will drop 10 grand on him....AND I DONT CARE BECAUSE I LOVE HIM TO DEATH....SO FOR HER SO SIT THERE AND WRITE THAT TO ME KILLS ME....I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR MY DOGS, AND THEY ARE NNOOOOOOOOOOOT TTTTTTTTTT CRATED ALL DAY (ANGUS IS FOR HIS OWN GOOD ABOUT 6 HOURS A DAY SO HE DOESN'T GET INTO SOMETHING AND KILL HIMSELF, BUT ONCE HE IS OUT OF THE EATING EVERYTHING STAGE HE WILL HAVE FREE ROAMING OF THE HOUSE JUST LIKE CODY......AND IM RENTING A HOUSE SO THEY HAVE A DAMN YARD) AND HE IS ON GOOD FOOD, BUT I AM CURRENTLY DOING RESEARCH ON THE BEST FOODS FOR HIM, AND SUPPLEMENTS, AND EVERYHTING ELSE I CAN DO........I SPEND 1/3 OF MY DAY WORKING TO BUY MY DOGS FOOD AND TOYS AND PAY VET BILLS, AND I SPEND 2/3 OF MY DAY PLAYING WITH THEM...WHAT MORE DOES SHE WANT FROM ME! no she has no gaurantee, she has nothing.....sh e is a backyard breeder, and i knew i should never have gotten a puppy from her, but once i saw him and he picked me, i could not leave with out him!
i just dont want this woman putting more puppies into the world if this is the kind of care and responsibility she takes of/for her dogs.

I am so sorry to hear about your doggy. I totally understand what you are going through. My first puppy was bought from a backyard breeder. Something in my head told me not to buy her from him but once I saw her every other thought went out the window. Now I have a puppy who never grew to full size, gets sick a lot and cost me my bank account and some more. I still love her to bits but I am really really sick of backyard breeders who just breer two dogs togather without knowing anything or taking responibilty for anything. I was able to contact the owner once and he just said I should do this and that. Anyway.. I am sorry to hear about everything and I really hope your doggy come out of this okay. Also if you get a chance post on craigslist pet section about this breeder or if she is a AKC breeder contact AKC or Kennel clubs and tell them what happened. I don;t know if this is true but someone once told me that AKC does take away papers from a dog. Anyway. Good luck. Wish you well!!!!

I am speechless.... What kind of person.... I don't even know what to say. If hse thinks she's such a great breeder why didn't SHE have the father x-rayed and OSA certified? Wouldn't she want to only breed a dog known to be healthy?
And to imply, no come right out and say it must be your fault...when how could she know how you raise your puppy? After reading her letter I would be she hasn't exactly kept in touch to see how the puppy is doing. And if the mother died 3 days after the puppies were born, how did she die? Was she examined by a vet? I'd guess no.
I don't even have a word for someone like this......
If I ever find myself in Fresno, not only will I not buy a puppy from her.... I may stop in to give her a piece of my mind. She could apparently use the donation!

LOL, im thinking about going. granted, last night i was going for sure, and today now that i got some sleep and am cooled off a little, i think it best to stay away and do my damage from a distance. i dunno.....if i do go....i'll bring a camera, and when she see's who it is at her door, and she realizes i am there to kick her @ss, i'll snap a pic.

I must say that out of all the breeders Jaime and I have met here and around the surrounding areas (which aren't a whole lot) of Fresno, it was easy to label them backyard breeders. The last newf pup we went to go see the parents had mats pretty bad; we actually ended up showing her how to brush her own dogs! I'm really sorry about your experience Nickerbokker - but becareful not to over react. Anything you do or say isn't going to change who she is - she probably knows exactly what she's doing but doesn't care.
But hey.. who is she and what's her number? :)

Unbelieveable response to your concerns!! Bad things do happen to this amazing breed and I think it is SO important for the breeder and the owner to be a team in addressing this problems. To even imply that you are at fault is appaling. When you live with these guys you LOVE them, want what's best for them!!!! When my first Newf was diagnosed with severe dysplasia, the breeder offered to give me a new puppy...like he was a defective Ford!!! All I wanted was a recommendation for treatment. It was NEVER a thought that we would "get rid of him"!!! After my second Newf died after having her immunizations, I heard that the breeder told the Newf Club that neither dog was from his line....with his dogs' names on their pedigree!!! I blew sky high! I never blamed him for any of these problems!!!! It was SO disrespectful of their memories! My husband calmed me down with the thought that he is just a poor SOB...and always will be! Your breeder can join his club!!!
I just can't fathom how these people can be so unfeeling about these dogs....and then say they "love" them!!!

OMG! Let me know where she lives and I'll hunt her down myself. I am so disgusted by that letter. What the f*%# was she thinking? And to add to what Michael said- she is ignorant and just want the money and could obviously care less about the health & welfare of her dogs. I hope that everything works out with Angus and you even though he is full of problems right now.
Here is a story though that might give you a little comfort. Our breeder got her first Newf like 15 years ago and he was riddles with problems. He has hips so bad that they weren't even painful anymore. The left side wasn't even in the socket at all and the right was so f'ed up that it was only lke 10% in. She could've gotten another puppy but chose to do everything inher power to save her beloved 6 month old Remi. She took him everywhere, and I mean all over the US to try to save him and was told the same thing by everyone- do surgery or put him down. She didn't listen and instead put him on vitamins & supplements regularly. Her research into these methods and lots of TLC has helped him to live like a "normal" dog. His hips are still all out of whack and it is really hard to get up in his old age. Somedays seem like they are his last but he somehow finds the strength to get up and let her know it is not time yet. At 13-14 he is alive, kicking and loved beyond compare. When he does go she'll be devastaded, but at least will know that she gave her dog with no hips and no chance at life the best that life had to offer!

I bought my Shiloh Shepherd from the Breed Founder, he was 10 months old. I was told nothing but lies about his background, temperment, (I was a nanny at the time and ended up with a dog with fear aggression, human and animal aggression) he has grade 2 CDH and who knows about his elbows as we did not bother to x-ray those. We put thousands of dollars in training with a respected specialist in problem dogs and have ended up with a dog that must be isolated and only be around my husband and myself. His ears did not come up but that is a very minor thing although we were also promised that they would come up "no problem". He was breed quality when we bought him!! I would not use this dog to breed anything and pass these traits on to puppies but his brother, at one year of age with no health testing, has been used at stud by her. We were given no support from her and were told we must have made mistakes to cause these problems as you also were told. It is not only back yard breeders that rip people off. We thought if you want the best go to the breed founder. We are not alone in our situation. There is a long list of people that have been decieved by her. We are doing the best we can for Bear and hope he has a long happy life but it is not easy to keep him safe and always work within his very small limitations. We have luckily found a kennel where he seems to be O.K. and can stay the odd night without problems. He is off his territory and the owner of the kennel breeds Irish Wolfhounds and also understands Shepherds with fear aggression. This allows us a bit of freedom to go away for the odd evening. Our last long haired Shepherd went everywhere with us. I miss being able to take Bear. Education is the best weapon against these people although stricter laws would help. The real victims are the puppies that are bred by these people. The lucky ones end up with families like yours who do everything they can to give them the best quality of life possible the unlucky ones end up with no life at all. When the breeding of dogs is done only for the money and ego it becomes an ugly creature.

That letter was way out of line..I feel bad what you have been through with Angus. You are a loving and caring dog owner and did not deserve that letter. Hopefully word will spread like wild fire and she will be put of business..did you ever report her to anyone? AKC may be a good place to start..who knows, they may revoke her registration rights to her litters. .that may hurt her business if her pure bred litters aren’t registered.. it’s just a thought.
I hope you heal from this someday..I know you are angry and it will take a while..some day she will get hers.

I feel so sorry for you and Angus! I do know of a supplement that helps with joint problems and you can get it at a local petstore, it is Shark Cartilage, ask the vet first to find out which one would be best for him, my boyfriends parents have a beagle and she is older and developed joint issues and was having a lot of trouble walking then they tried that and she kept getting better and better. I can not believe that lady would call herself a breeder, anytime I call mine she calls me back within 24 hrs. No one like that should be able to breed dogs, do you know if she took the mother to the vet before she passed? If she did maybe you could try to inquire about why she died if you explained the situation to them. Hopefully you will gain some closure on this and Angus will be all better.

I am so sorry for your problems with your breeder. I have had the same kind of problems with the breeder of my 6 yr old female and I can tell you now the AKC will do very little for your situation. But the best of luck toward trying. Minta

he's got really bad hips....one is about 40-50%in and the other is just 20% in. and, albow displasia as well. and....he can't gain weight. he wont fatten up.....he is scrawny as all heck...and thats good for his hips, but he just doesn't look like a saint at all...and i dont care, i love him, but its frustrating and i worry about the not gaining weight. so...i have another vet appt and we are probably going to do some blood and so forth to try and figure out what is going on.
hes happy and fun and runs around like a fool, LIKE A FOOL LOL, but it will catch up with him soon. his hips crackle and pop when he walks and gets up and shifts weight...its SO SAD AND MAKES ME ABOUT PUKE.....
anyway...hes got lots wrong with him righ tnow :(

This is exactly what happened to us. I contacted the breeder, and she claimed that out of 3 litters with the same parents, Eddy was the only one that had HD. As if we had something to do with it. We took Eddy to a OS who confirmed that he was born with the HD. We did not do anything wrong in raising him. What a shame that there are people out there breeding these dogs without any concern for the animal. All they care about is the $$$$. I wish we could stop them, but as our OS said, there is not much you can do about here in North America. We don't have much in place as far as regulations to control it. These people really sicken me!!! :'(

Did your puppy have AKC papers? Because I think you can register a complaint with them. This way if anyone else is shopping breeder using the AKC it might help warn them to stay away from this breeder.

I'm so sorry to hear about what that woman said to you. Clearly, it was her guilty conscience talking. I hope you know that your dogs health problems are in no way your fault, and NO ONE questions your love or care for your dogs.
I too had breeder problems. When we had our heart murmur scare with Seamus, the breeders would not return our emails or calls regarding his family history. Either they were afraid that we would try and collect on our health guarantee OR they have something to hide. I hope it isn't the latter. They also never sent us Seamus' "papers". My guess is that they don't exist.
I'm happy with Seamus and i'm so glad that he is my dog. BUT with that being said I would like to advise against using this breeder to anyone interested in purchasing a St., English Mastiff, and I think English Bulldog (I think those are the dogs they breed). If anyone is purchasing a dog in N. FLorida, contact me and i'll let you know their info.

I feel so so bad for you and your baby, to think about him and his bad hips makes me want to cry. The breeder (and I use that term loosely) is no better than a puppy mill, only smaller. The letter she sent you, says exactly what kind of person she is, she is cold hearted, money sucking and totally uncaring. She should be thankful for your concern for the other puppies. Any caring and responsible breeder would be devestated to hear about a puppy she had bred who have these problems. And to have the nerv to blame you, rather than looking at her own dogs and since the mother passed away when they puppies were only 3 days, they missed out on the very important milk, and since she bottle fed them, what did she feed them with and why did mom die, so many questions and none of them make her look good. I am not quite getting if you on his papers can see the OFA results under each name. There should be a excelent, good, fair or bad under each of the names who have been x-rayed. If they are indeed not tested, but she said they were when you bought the puppy, you can get her for giving you wrongful information. I would also file a complaint with AKC, and the breed club, and any local breed club there might be, also file complaint with BBB, every bit of disturbance this woman's breeding gets is a +. You can also research both via the breed club and online, through her name or kennel name, check with AKC how many litters she has registered, what parents and then go to work and check if the dogs are x-rayed or not, the more you have on this breeder when you file the complaints the better it is. I will be thinking of your baby and hoping everything turns out well, please keep us posted with how he is doing. Give him big big hugs from me

thank you ALL for your replies and concern! it means a ton! so many people do not understand...a nd when i tell them whats going on they say "is it worth it to pay that much money for a 6 month old pup? just put him down"...then you hate those people and aren't friends with them anymore and just feel alone! i LOVE HAVING DOG PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND!

>:( That is such a common thing to hear from people that are not dog people (even some that concider themselves dog lovers) "why dont you just get another one" That always leaves me totally stunned.... Would you tell someone with a sick child to forget about it and go home and make another one??? Nope... noone would even think that, so what makes people think of dogs as less of a lifeform. I totally understand you feeling of being lonely, when you all the time have to defend your feelings and your actions, simply because you hold a dogs life close to your heart. But you know, you always have us here, you go on and scream when you need, cry when you need and laugh when you can, and we will still be here and listen and talk. We are all the same kind of people in this little place, and it is a wonderful place to go to, isnt it??

its my favorite place in the world! im not kidding. i told jaime that also....i just love it here. im not a huge internet person, i do email, and that is about it...but i was on craigslist looking for a place to move and looked in the pet section and found this site and i just know it was fate i went there that day...because now i have met all of you wonderful "doggie people" and i do finally feel like there are people who understand what i am talking about and feeling.
lol....the go out and make another kid comment cracked me up, because i have told quite a few people that same thing in the last couple of weeks, they say put him to sleep, and i say as soon as you murder your kid...i am fed up with people who dont give a shit about animals, and who dont understand that i love mine more than life itself. they tell me to get another pup, and i look at them with disgust and they are like "what"....i like my dogs more than i like most people....they dont talk back, they listen to me (most of the time lol, and more every day), they are SOOO excited every day when i wake up or when i come home or when i walk past the treat bowl.....they have nothing but LOVE, and they are the coolest EVER...and then there are cold hearted people who just say, put him down and get another....lik e they are a f-ing pair of shoes. it drives me NUTSO...but you guys all understand and i love that.

I think a lot of us feel like this place is our home away from home, funny isnt it, how a forum with people you have never met, can be such a great support. Oh yeah, when you said how you like your dogs more than most people, I came to think about an old joke "the more I get to know men, the more I love my dogs" granted hubby of course said "the more I get to know women, the more I like my truck" hehe so I guess it all depends...... While at it, one of my fav. is "all men are idiots, and my husband is their king" Okay I'll quit now or I may get carried away lol....

That's awful! I know how it feels to be royaly screwed over by a breeder like that... jerks only seem to care about the almighty dollar instead of the best health of their pups. I'm sorry to bring up old wounds but I just could'nt contain my anger about what that beotch did to you and your wonderful puppy. (and I want you to know that you have my complete support).
