: anyone do tracking?
: ambulance_Driver January 06, 2006, 07:45:12 AM
Does anyone on here do tracking with their big kids?  I would love to get Thor started in it, as he doesn't know it yet but he's going to be a search and rescue dog.  That and I would love for him to find something more than my house cat, shoes, or stray piece of horse poop that escaped from the pasture lol.   If you do can you please give us a starting point/advice.
Thanks

If you plan on SAR i would suggest you read the book "ready" written by susan bulanda, and, i would find a local sar unit in your area, it is more than running around the woods with your dog, it is knowing map and compass, cpr, and many other things.
you might want to go to NASAR and NASDN and read their sites, and also my site has tips on being a victim for the handlers dogs wich is an ideal way to start out in SAR

i have a few pages dedicated to SAR work there.
