We are expecting our AM puppy around Easter. I am in search of a big, strong name...we have been calling him Magnus since July but I am not 100% sold on it-there are so many Magnus' out there. We have also bounced around Kahn, Ra, Angus...Just thought someone might think of a really cool, masculine name. I would like to stick to one or two syllables too. Thanks!!Â

Gruthar.
-
Well my friend was going to use this but he copped out and picked "Buddy". Sonah, it's Gaelic for Lucky. (Soh-Nuh) Also, a suggestion is pick your native language, and look up a word that describes the puppy.
-
I love the name "Magnum" ....both in terms of a wine bottle and the size of a gun...
-
Kahn is cute.
Conan (the barbarian)
Grady
Arnold
-
I like Conan too...that sounds super masculine.
-
I love Bear! What a handsome boy! I have loved Newfies and have wanted one for a few years now. My husband decided on a mastiff but I LOVE newfoundlands and your Bear is beautiful.
-
This might be helpful.....or at the very least it's fun to play with....

oh i think this is one of the fun things about getting a pup! so even if you don't pick one of my names please let us know what you name your pup! here are mine hartley - old english deer,Drake english dragon, Mac-Gaelic son, Raiden-Japanese thunder god, Miles-old german gentle,
Ranger-guardian of the forest, Wyatt - little warrior, valter-powerful ruler!! good luck with your new pup!!
-
Where are you getting your puupy from. We just picked up our brindle boy from Orion Farms last week. We too had a difficult time with the name and as you can see by my paw print, we too thought we were set on Magnus!!! We tried a number of "tough names" on him but these pups personalities are anything but tough so none seemed to fit. In the end it was between Owen, Bruce, Andre, and Parker (he was the P puppy and big Spidey fans), bu ultimately setled on Stan Lee or as we call him "Stash" (which is strong Polish name). Good luck with the puppy... they are well worth the wait.

I like Wyatt too, but my nephew is Wyatt so that is already taken. ;)
I am liking Fergus, Thor and Rajah...it was easier naming our son. I swear!
-
Ruger, like the gun. I don't know if I spelled it right, but it's tough sounding!
-
'gasp' that IS cool!
-
Ill jump on the wagon heres a couple...Tonka,Zeus,Newman,Hudson,I cant believe I forgot all the names I was going to name Spotakiss.I know...and I picked Spotakiss.
-
Maximus (I know, a lot of syllables - but how can you get any more masculine than Russell Crowe in Gladiator?). You could always call him "Max" for short when calling on...
Also Thor, Rufus, Tonka, Diesel, Ben, Christian, Kuma, Slater...
-
I like Conan also. Here's my contribution:
Stalin........ .....I know, I know, but I like the sound of the name
Guiness
Atlas
Apollo........ ...more than 2 syllables, but I love this name
Heinrich
Boris
Titus/Titan
Dieter
Jaeger
-
Are you German? ;)
-
How about Gwydyon? It's the name of the Welsh god of war.
You say it like Gideon, but with the W.
Gideon's good, too, come to think of it.
-
Are you German?
Why, yes I am............ .how did you know? ;D
Hey, I can't help it if all the masculine sounding names are german/russian. ;D
-
Well my husband is pulling for Khan...I don't think it is unique enough. <rubbing my hands together> I will have to figure SOME way to change his mind...
-
Goliath got his name from my wife .... I was shooting for Tiny or Fluffy or Spot .... But I got over-ruled :-(
I still think that the sissy/small dog names would have suited his personality better!
Matthew and Goliath

Yea I had a list that included some "little" names, speck, tiny, knibblet but my husband is pretty set on Khan (with the history behind the mastiff and all). I kinda like Schatzi too (German for sweetheart). My step-daughters liked the "little" names too. So who knows...the world will have to wait for the unveiling!
-
Thunder or Tremor
-
I like the name Tonka too!! haha....(I am NOT biased!)
-
Dozer
Wallace (as in William Wallace from Braveheart)
Malakai
Beretta
Hedwig (german for Battling)
Atticus
Hannibal
Vader
Thats all I can come up with...
-
The verdict is in...Boudreaux . My husband is an LSU fan and I saw that name and thought <gasp> "that would be cool!" He liked it! I asked him if he liked it as much as Khan...he said yea. So we are picking Boudreaux! ;D

I was also looking for a perfect name for our future female AM. I found a wonderful website www.thinkbabyn ames.com. What you can do is find a name by meaning and sex. So for example, If you want aboys names meaning "gentle" that's what you enter. All names that mean gentle will come up. They are derived from German, French, Celtic, Latin; everything. Some are very different others you hear all of the time.
As I mentioned in your other post, we chose "Willa Majesta" Willa meaning resolute protector, and Majesta meaning royal, bearing dignity.
It's been great fun finding a name. And it means more knowing there is some real meaning behind it.
ENJOY!
