: Camping!!!
: coonie1970 May 25, 2005, 07:34:45 AM
Here are some pictures from our camping trip. Judge LOVED the boat rides. Whenever we went out without him he would sit on the shore and whine. Poor Baby!! He was really upset whenever my neice took our kids out on the lake. He is so protective, as soon as Olivia( my 2 year old) was back on shore he wasnt so upset but he really didnt like his baby out there on the lake.

One more!! :-[ Oh yes and a freind for Judge. He went NUTS when we saw this bear on our way home. I think the bear would have had a run for his money if Judge could have gotten out of the truck. Makes me feel a lot safer knowing Judge would protect us if we ever came across a bear while camping.

jabear We live in Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario.  We have a real big problem with bears here. Last year we had one in our front yard. They are not scared at all. I had to call the police to come and scare it away. :-[ I was getting the kids out of the car when I saw him and I had to run in the house. David and Katey were still in the car and I was worried that they would get out.Thank goodness they were asleep. The police were really annoyed but I didnt know what else to do. They scared him away for me and everyone was safe. That is another reason we decided on a BIG DOG. Bears usually will stay away if you have a dog. The bear in the picture was just on the outskirts of town. We saw him again yesterday He was just hangin out I guess. I hope he stays on the side of the road he is just a baby and I wouldnt want him to get hit by a car.

Such beautiful pictures of Judge!!! My pups love to go camping with as too! We just need the weather here in Nova Scotia to warm up a little and STOP raining!!!

We camp with the family in a 12' pop-up camper, and the big dogs are a real hit with other campers. We have people cruise past the campsite just to see the dogs. My crew all pretty much love the water and the outdoors.

We also have a 12 ft pop-up and want to take Bailey along camping.  Our's does not have air, so I am worried about keeping her cool while camping.  Do you just keep a fresh supply of water for them?  What else do you do to make sure they don't overheat?  Thanks,

WOW Karen! I am sure the bears are a real annoying problem to have but I just may have to make a visit up to Canada just to see a real live bear in the wild. I am sure Bear would love to meet Judge too.  ;)
I'll post some pics later of Bear camping. He loves to hike and camp by the lakes/rivers. He's such an outdoor guy!

We LOVE to camp!!! We always take Cabeza, and he's really well-behaved. We always camp somewhere near water, so he doesn't have any problem staying cool.

I wish we had bears here, too, jabear! I'm also obsessed with seeing a real, live, bear! My boyfriend is Canadian, and he's always like, "Oh, big deal. I"ve seen a zillion bears." Ha!

I don't know what Cabeza would do if he saw one, though!

Hey!  Thanks for creating the "camping" post!  That is so neat that you did that.  Now we will have a place to put some camping photos after this weekend.  I am not used to everyone loving their dogs as much as I do.

I forgot that the U.S long weekend was this weekend. Ours was last. We didnt have any touble with Judge out at the lake but we were about 20 miles back in the bush.( The guys idea of a great camping trip not ours. Its a May 24 ritual.) There were no other campers around and we were at our own lake. Were we live there are so many lakes that we go out and pick the lake we want to camp at. Judge slept outside the camper and drank from the lake. Its spring fed so the water is really clean. We bring everything we need. This year was beautiful but most years we get snow or lotsa rain and cold.
Hope everyone brings us back some nice pictures from your weekend!!

2newsaints,
All of my furkids are shorthaired, 2 danes and a dobie, so keeping them cool is alot easier than with a full coated dog like a Saint. I generally tell the campground owners that I am bring three large dogs, so they generally tuck us away somewhere, and often leave the sites on either side empty--their decision, not my request, so I don't have to pay extra. Since we are usually in the back of beyond, if there is a river or stream we are close to it and we take the brats swimming at least once a day. Besides that they always have access to fresh water, and love to horn in on the enevitable frequent human waterfights that break out with alarming regularity. Be aware though, that most of the campgrounds we have been in require a leash at all times, and dogs over 25 lbs are not allowed to be at the campsite unattended, even if confined to your camper, probably because of the soft sided canvas. When we had plans that could not include the brats (horseback riding) we found a local doggy daycare for that time. They did go canoeing with us and absolutely LOVED it.
We also keep a couple of box fans running outside during the day in the worst of the heat, and move them inside at night when it cools off. We don't have air either, and really don't miss it all that much.

Camping near Metaline Falls, WA at Noisy Creek Campground.  Getting ready to go...we are excited...yes, we are!  But, Betti has no idea where we are going.
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:02:24 PM
Betti is not sure about this.  It is her first evening at the campsite and, to the best of our knowledge, she has never slept in a tent before.
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:03:54 PM
Betti and Lou at the site.
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:05:31 PM
Betti loves to chase the hose, but this was really something!  She tried to walk on the water, then she tried relentlessly to dig the water out and/or empty the lake.
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:07:06 PM
Still trying to splash all the water out of the lake...this time a different lake altogether.   ;D
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:08:25 PM
Little Betti finds out she can swim...looks more like a panicked sprint for shore.  ;D

Greta is tired of having her picture taken.  She's hot and grumpy.

Greta was also disappointed that we didn't catch any fish for her dinner.  She loves trout!

During the ride home Greta is tired and has an eye booger.

Lou is a gentle boy.  At nearly eight years old, he is slowing down.  He didn't want to fetch sticks this time.
: Re: Camping!!!
: moonlitcroatia May 29, 2005, 08:24:32 PM
And...finally. ..my very favorite photograph from our camping trip...Lou and Betti are obviously not as tuckered out as Greta during the trip home.  Perhaps they thought we were going to another lake, or just caught whiff of some cows.

I just realized, in my excitement, that this camping post is under "Saint Bernards".  I hope it is OK for Lou, Greta and Betti to be here.  They like it here... :-\

We didn't catch any fish.  Mostly, my sister is the great fisher-person.  My boyfriend loves to fish, too.  Over the years it's become less and less interesting to me...killing things.  I don't feel anything...whe n I fish - meaning, it's not an adrenalin rush or exciting or anything.

We usually catch trout.  I caught my first bass last year at Banks Lake here in E. Washington.

We used to catch a lot of surf perch from the jetty at Cape Disappointment (on the ocean side) near the Oregon/Washington border.  Also, squid on the Pier in Des Moines, near Seattle.

You put your beautifull babys anywere you want. I started this post so everyone could post there camping pictures. I should have put it on the general board.
I dont really like fishing eather. Sitting on a boat waiting forever to catch a stinky old fish is not my idea of fun. I like to go for hikes and check out the shore of the lakes more. You can find such wonderfull treasures.
We catch pike , pickeral and lake trout. Any fresh water fish I guess.  Im in Northern Ontario, Far from any oceans but close to hundreds of lakes.

I've always liked Canada.  When we lived near the Canadian border we would drive to Grand Forks, B.C. to watch a movie or visit the dentist.  It was always a lot cleaner, the people were more diverse and definitely friendlier.  Some day I want to move away - maybe even from the U.S.  Canada is a place I want to consider.

:o Good luck with your new puppy. I was wondering if getting Mggie fixed just before you get a puppy is a good idea. I may be wrong but doesnt it take a while to heal?? I know Judge was fairly energetic and loved to play when we first got him. Im sure someone will help.
