we have had problems with our dogs rushing the door when people knock, but we've now found a solution!  we got a new door bell (that was like $30 at lowes, it's wireless too!) that has different door bell options, some odd around 60 of them.  one is a bird chirping.  it's different, and the dogs hear birds all the time, and they have STOPPED rushing the door completely!  their anxiety over people at the door is gone.  completely!  our pizza man even looked at hubby funny because he shut the door fast, because the dogs didn't even bother looking up, i guess they figured brandon was taking a cigarette break!  the guy was very relieved when he realized why hubby did it!  just thought i'd share!

You're both energetic, affectionate, and a bit goofy.
And neither of you seem to mind very slobbery kisses!

i found a way cheaper, way better alternative to the halti lead / gentle leaders.  with us we are always paranoid about them slipping off, or breaking, etc, not to mention we always end up paying almost $20 for ONE, and being we have 4 dogs, well... you get the point.  so!  i went on e-bay and found something better!  we got a pygmy goat halter (this is where you're going to start laughing!) and put it on axle.  it is really nice, and thick, it has a 5/8" strap to it, and does an "X" under his chin, so it's really stable and won't slip off.  we did have to buy a collar to  "extend it" being axle has a fat head, but we only paid $5 for the halter, and then $4 for shipping, and then a WHOLE $2 for an "extender" collar.  so it totaled out to a whopping $11, including tax, which is a whole $9 cheaper than a halti lead and i like it soooooooooo much better!  i think i'm going to get a miniature horse one (we weren't sure about sizing) and see if it fits without the extra extension.  just thought i'd share!  here's a pic of what we got.  they come in different colors.  i forgot to mention, the cheek pieces slide up and down and allow you to make around the nose and mouth bigger or smaller.  it's really nice!

Food Discussion & Information / my mom's vet says WHAT?!
« on: December 15, 2006, 01:13:02 am »
ok, so my mom has two tiny paws (one chihuahua that weighs less than 3lbs, and one that is around 10-12)  neither are overweight, in fact, the smallest has a high tendency to get skinny.  the oldest is 10 years old this past november, the youngest is like 6 or 7.  my mom only feeds them once a day, which i notice doesn't do good for the smallest, because he uses up so much energy and then just sleeps alllllllllllll lll day.  when i'm there i feed them twice a day, and they do awesome.  the question i have is, my mom's vet tells her they're too heavy, and that she only needs to feed them enough to make them not "feel" hungry, but they should still be asking her for more food.  i don't understand this!  he's also the reason they get fed once a day.  right now the smallest gets 1/4 of one of those square "canned" dog foods, and the biggest gets one.  what's everyone's opinion on this??  i know tiny paws don't eat as much as my big paws, but this just seems like it isn't enough, they both beg me the entire time i eat, whenever i eat.

Discussions & Information on Grooming / shampoo preferences?
« on: December 14, 2006, 07:49:57 am »
hey guys!  i was just wondering what everyone used for shampoo??  we usually use either baby shampoo or else i get tropiclean's "berry clean."  both smell GREAT coming out the bottle, but by the time they start to dry (even when i blow dry them, which takes forever) they smell like butt again.  i know the professional gallon jugs of shampoo work good, but i was curious if there was anything else out there!

who EXACTLY decides that this dog breed has to be 21" to 36" (just numbers pulled out my head) in order to be within breed standards?  or that they have to be this color, and this color is unacceptable?  just curious!
