Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Help - my dog is biting

Hi everyone,
I need help desperately. My dog, Rocky, is a 1 1/2 year old Alaskan Malamute. He lives with my parents because I can't take him - I live in a small apartment. Twice Rocky has bit my dad - once when dad was trying to get him away from food he pulled off the table, this time he bit dad when dad was trying to grab his collar to stop him from running around the house.
In all honesty, the dog has no discipline. I tried to take him to obedience school but my parents wouldn't come with me, which defeated the purpose. The dog eats people food and gets pretty much whatever he wants.
My thought is he is trying to be the alpha male so that's why he's biting my dad. We are discussing putting him down at this point, which makes me sad because I feel like this isn't the dog's fault.
