Oh God Lisa - That is so sad!!!!  I can't even think about it.  I would just die if I lost my babies.  I am on vacation without them and i miss them terribly...som etimes even more then the human kids.  They just love so unconditionall y and the bond is so intense.  I am a Nurse and deal with life and death everyday.  Doesn't really bother me - you get used to it I guess.  But thought of animals being lost from their loved ones or them being hurt and scared...makes me just cry......   :'(

Labrador Retriever Discussions / Re: ex husband is a real jerk!!!!
« on: July 18, 2005, 06:44:18 pm »
Thor is currently residing in Lancaster, Calif.  In the high desert...so can you imagine how hot it is.  So I am really serious.....  I am going to do a comando operation and break out poor thor.  So I will definately be happy for someone who wants to adopt him.  He needs tons of love and probably some training because he has spent a good portion of his young life on a chain by himself in the backyard.  I am out of town now and we will have to do it when the step-monster and my ex is busy..... but I am going to do it cause it makes me very sad.  You know in our divorce he got custody of my samoyed....I never saw her again.  told me she ran away... *sniff* breaks my heart.  I should have just taken her.  But I was young and dumb and didn't think I could with 2 kids by myself.  I always feel so guilty about it....

Anyway, I will let you guys know when I have him...will probably take a few weeks....  so work on a home.  Iwill ship him if the home is good.  Just don't want hm to have suffer the same fate Cleo did.

Labrador Retriever Discussions / ex husband is a real jerk!!!!
« on: July 17, 2005, 07:46:52 pm »
Ok - my daughter just called me in tears.  She is at her dad's for a couple of weeks (my ex husband) and she is teriible upset.  He has a lab - almost teo named thor.  Who I guess is a real sweetheart.  But apparently he has been vanquished to the backyard by himself with a doghouse and he has to be on a chain because he digs up his new wifes strawberries.  He won't let him come off the chain or inside at all.  I just hate this.  I told my daughter I am going to drive down and we will break him out of jail.  Anyone want a sweet lab boy?!?!?!?  He needs a nice loving family!!!  My association will not let me have another dog.

hi, welcome.  Sorry to hear about your loss.  You will like it here.  There are a lot of very informative people with lots of good advice and everyone is very supportive.  I haven't been here long but I like it.

Yeah, the more I read the less I like.  I have found a holistic vet here in Vegas.  I will ask what she thinks.  One breeder told me to not get the parvo vaccine but to use PARVAID.  Not sure what that is but I think I will look into it.

Well supposedly there are nosodes which are a more holistic type of vaccine.  Thet are suppose to be completely safe but still give the dog an immunity to the offending disease.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Vaccines - are they really necessary?
« on: July 17, 2005, 04:46:06 am »
See this is what happens when you are an insomniac.....  you surf the web till 4am looking for all kinds of things.  I have come across several message boards, articles, etc about how bad vaccines are for yor dog.  Vet schools are now teaching that all of the vaccines are not necessary.  Now, Ihave always vaccinated my dogs (just like my 2 legged kids) because that is what I was told was the right thing to do.  But is it?  Should we be drawing titers to see if our furry children actully need the vaccine.  Why re-vaccinate if the body is already showing an immunituy?  My breeder does not vaccinate and has not for 3 generations.  She states that it actually weakens the immune system.  And I believe to some degree that she is right.  Are rabies vaccines really necessary every 1-3 years.  If your dog has the antibodies then it should mean that a vaccine is not required.  Maybe al the un-necessary vaccinating is causeing all of the major health problems seen in our pets.  A vet friend of mine told me that they actually make pretty decent money off of routine vaccines.  It cousts them almost nothing to buy it in bulk and then charge 10-20.00 (at least at my vets office) for a single dose.  Also, the multiple vaccines like the 7 in 1 etc etc are worse then just a single vaccine.  Anyway, just wanted to know if other people do not vaccinate or if someone had any other info on the topic.

ok - hope I can finely get some sleep...maybe if those darn sugargliders will stop barking.
good night all

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Pet Insurance???????
« on: July 17, 2005, 04:03:11 am »
Just wanted to know if pet insurance was worth it?  I have been surfing around and looking but I am not impressed with anything I see.  Since I am now adding a larger dog with larger medical expenses i thought it might be a good idea.  Seems to me that you have to pay upfront and then submit a claim....do they really pat it? Also most have clauses that don't cover congenital problems or elective procedures.  So a costly hip surgery or a preventive gastropexy are not covered.  So what does everyone think?  And if you have it - have you used it?  Just Wondering

They are very cute but a little weird.  My daughter has 5 of them. 2 boys and 3 girls.  We are getting the boys fixed so no baby gliders.  5 is enough.  But they bark like puppies, and make grinding nosies.  They are pretty interesting.
