You guys are probably right.  Once he's there, being his big ole' goofy self, all the little things wont bother me at all.  That said, I think I will feed him in the far corner of the mud room (glorified closet) so that by the time he gets to the main room, most of the drool will be on the floor already - LOL!  The main floor is open concept, with the dining area and kitchen in tile and the living room in carpet (maybe I can keep him on the tile only??) If I get him a bed or a mat and put it where he can see everyone, that should reduce the amount of hair & dirt on the actual carpet. (That, and I have 4 kids that need to "earn" their allowance every week - LOL!  My own personal drool scrubbers!........wonder how much I would have to pay them......?  LOL!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / I'm a terrible Big Paw Mom......
« on: September 09, 2008, 11:24:32 am »
So, here's the scoop.  We just built a brand new house and the humans have been living in it for two glorious weeks now.  The cat (Lola) and Teddy are still living in the trailer (we lived in a 35 ft trailer( no bathroom, no running water) on the property all summer with 4 kids and the pets!).  The weather this year has been great so we just tied Teddy out all day and he came into the trailer every evening with us.

Now, its time to move the pets into the house......... but I kinda like living without the hair and the drool.  The carpetting is clean, the floor is drool free, there is no hair in my food or on the couch, etc.  I feel so terrible.  Teddy is never going anywhere but here, but I feel like I'm betraying him by thinking of confining him to only one floor, or to only one room while we are gone.

Anyone have any suggestions for making my new house feel new for a while longer, even after the drooly hairball moves in?  Or do I just need to "suck it up Sunshine" and just deal with it, its Teddy's house too.

Anyone else go through this??

I know the "freaked out feeling" you get in the pit of your stomach.  Teddy used to try to dominate my youngest son.  One time when the kids were running, I saw Teddy "hook" his paw around my son's legs (who was 6 at the time) and haul him down to the ground then Teddy tried to lay on him (more like push him down with his chest). NOT acceptable.  My son was the one feeding  and treating after that and Teddy got over it....but I know the feeling.

I dont really have any solutions for you.  In my house, we have just trued to remove all tempations from rough play (but my kids are older now).

A-D-O-R-B-L-E!!!!!!!

If you've already got an Olive, how about Popeye?  Or Sailor? Or Ham Gravy?  Kinda silly, but the Popeye theme just struck me when I heard Olive.  He's going to be so handone, whatever you name him!

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Spare a good thought for Teddy today
« on: August 15, 2008, 08:53:37 am »
He went through the sedation and flushing just fine.  They said he was a star patient (of course he was!  LOL).  At least he was awake enough to jump into the truck - LOL!

They have given me different medications and drops to try until the cultures come back, but we are pretty sure we are dealing with Pseudomonas otitis.  YUK!

Anyone else have experience with Pseudomonas otitis?

Maybe a corgi/pyr mix??  That would account for the stubby legs (and they are cute as buttons too!  LOL)

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Spare a good thought for Teddy today
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:11:23 am »
Hi Guys, I know we haven't been on much, but Teddy needs a little of BPO's support today.

He is at the vets to be put under sedation to have his ear flushed.  He has chronic ear infection in his one ear and it has gotten so bad that antibiotics, steriods, and topical medications aren't working. You can see the puss oozing out of it, even after a weeks worth od treatment.

The vet has sent a culture away to see what other types of antibiotics we can try, but he thinks we may have a strain that is resistant to antibiotics.  Not sure what the next treatment will be.  Hopefully the flushing will help.

Just thought I'd ask for a little bit of good thoughts for Teddy today while he's in dreamland...  Thanks!

Saint Bernard Pictures / Been MIA - new Teddy Pic
« on: June 20, 2008, 02:01:39 pm »
Hi Everyone!  *waves madly across cyberspace*

Been super busy lately - my BF and I are building a house!  Were doing it all ourselves!  I'm really surprised how quickly its going though!  Teddy LOVES having 5 acres to run and play with his kids!

Just thought I'd pop in and share a couple recent pics of my Teddy.  He's almost 2.5 yrs now and really starting to fill out.  He's such a sweetie, and like most saints, still thinks he'a a lapdog!

Teddy the saint, just turned 2 and last weighed in at a "too skinny" 153 a few months ago.  I've uppped his food intake and I would guess he's closer to 160-165 now - and he looks fantastic!
