Food Discussion & Information / Re: $29.99 for 40 LBS of Canidae
« on: May 19, 2006, 12:25:26 pm »
We have never fed Dell anything except Canidae (well, except for one bag of Iams, until our trainer set us straight.)

Dell's coat is shiny, his eyes are clear and bright, he is strong and healthy and vibrant and his poo is firm and easy to clean up.

I cannot say enough good things about Canidae - it's definitely worth the $40 a month for dog food, despite hubby's protests!   ;D

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Talking Back: Any suggestions?
« on: May 19, 2006, 11:42:07 am »
When Dell is crated he would "talk" to us.  I've noticed that if we respond, the "talking" gets louder and much more animated, but if we ignore him, he will get quiet.

Once he gets quiet I jackpot treat him - give him a ton of his favorite treats and a couple of cheese sticks or some leftover chicken.  I also tell him "good quiet" and stroke his chest or ears.  He still does it on occasion but it's much less sassy than before.

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Appointment is Made for Barkley

:'( Can barely see through the tears to type.  I'm so sorry.  I hope it brings you some peace to know that he won't have to suffer anymore.

As Melissakins is doing, I will light a candle for him this evening.

I was so hoping the Barkley would make a suprise recovery.  Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

So I'm totally IN on this.  I have a suggestion about where, too!  We want a temperate climate where it will still get cold, with lakes or a beach.  How about Washington state?  It still gets cold but man, this would be GREAT!

The thought of living with people who love and embrace dogs rather than gritch about them would be fantastic!

When can we move?  ;)

LOVE Cape Dissapointment!  There is a very small quiet beach there that hubby and I like to go to.  Haven't taken Dell there yet but hope to this summer.

I love your pics.  There's nothing more fun than watching dogs tear around with their tongues flailing and eyes bugged out.  You KNOW they're having a blast when they get to that point.

:D  That is so sweet!  When I offer Delly a nice juicy knuckle bone, he won't even acknowledge that it's anywhere near him until I turn my back.  Could that be related to the whole food deprivation that his litter suffered from?

Bear is so darn cute, too!

I would think the coins would be much more noisy/deterring than beans in a can.  That would scare me!

;D First of all, your son is A.D.O.R.A.B.L. E. and he's even cuter because he KNOWS he's not supposed to be in there!

I went to Big Lots and bought a Rubbermaid storage container that is big enough to hold about 40 lbs of food.  The lid snaps down to keep wee ones out, as well as the ultra nosy dog - almost too well because I have a hard time getting it off sometimes.

I've wondered if I should get something that is airtight but I just can't justify the expense.  We go through the food fast enough that I don't think we have a problem with staleness.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Cesco attacked me :-(
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:46:17 pm »
I am so sorry that you're having these issues!  Dell was a resource guarder as well and I can't tell you how many times Hubby has said "the dog or me".

We have been through private training as well as several classes and intensive work with his issues.

As for your dad being bitten when Cesco was caught in the fence, that's unfair to judge him while he was hurting.

Hang in there.
