Not sure about the eyes.  Are those Ridgeback eyes?  Doya think? I know Ridgebacks are extremely intelligent.  I hope to have a meeting first even though it is a long drive.  Thanks for your input.

OK I am an old dummy, what is CGC? I do not expect to give her any corrections, can we give commands though?

Jabear is thinking about it too (sorry if I spill the beans) but she will take a test later and I will work on this one and help her.  I found out there are no therapy dogs here in Fresno and the lady even told me that she wanted me to start a chapter here. I told her I would but need more experience.  I think we only need two dogs to have a chapter.  Fresno is a big town.  thanks for keeping us informed.  Peggy

Mixed Breed Pictures / Canuck
« on: August 12, 2005, 06:03:19 pm »
This is Canuck.  She got that name because of the white marking on her chest that looks like a maple leaf, thus the Canadian name.  She is Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix and is in foster. I found her in Petfinders.  I have been talking to the foster daddy and he says she is a great 18 month old that is very loving.  The only problem she has is that she is timid with strangers.  I am not sure yet, I don't mean to sound picky but this is a lifetime committment so it is a big deal.  Still working on it.

Hey, Niki will take her test in Sonora, Calif. on August 27th.  I have read all the material and it looks like a walk in the park for her because of her experience.  Nobody said anything about Kleenix, but I will practice with it.  This is TDI and they seem very nice.  They did not say anything about her needing to go to classes first.  All I have to do is give her the command "ignore" and she will look the other way.  WOW I don't mean to sound cocky - that could slap me in the face - so we will be practicing.
Wish us luck.

Grumpy, you are in San Diego and that is about an eight hour drive from Merced.  I am in Fresno and several members are in the LA area so if we need to, we can do a relay up the state.  Just remember California is so long if we were on the East Coast we would drive through as many as five states to cover the distance.  Just a thought, set up a relay.

I have never fostered but would like to, however, we will be going into our vacation period.  Maybe after October when I will be home the rest of the year, I could.  How does it work.  Do they sometimes give you a dog and then forget about you or do they still try to place them?  I would like to know and then would consider taking a dog and training him to be more adoptable.  Just a thought, can someone give me a clue on how it works.

Hey, it is late that I am posting this and just got called into work tomorrow.  Looks like it will be hot all weekend but we might have a break in the weather next week, at least under 100 so the evening walks will be better.  Hope you get to move into your new apt. soon and if I can help, call me.

I was watching Niki sleep the other day and I have noticed this many times in the past, it is so much fun to watch.  Her eyes are closed.  Her feet start moving slowly, then faster than furiously.  Then she whelps lightly and then her mouth starts moving.  HaHa she must have been chasing a rabbit and then caught it.  So much fun to watch and try to figure out what her doggie brain is doing.  Wonder if I do that in my sleep - I can remember some pretty bad dreams but they did not have a rabbit it them.  Anybody else observe the same thing?

Nina, that is good news.  Stockton is a lot closer to Merced than I am but I still can do the transportation and I'll donate the gas.  Keep us postsed.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Cloning
« on: August 04, 2005, 10:41:36 am »
I was on a trip once and met a vet who told me that he had a milk cow that produced such a volume of milk that she was said to be the highest producer of milk on record.  A university got her and when she died, they cloned her.  She was brown and white and I asked him if her clone had the same identical markings.  He said NO.  Now that seems strange to me because I thought everything physical would be identical to the "host" animal.  Funny too because he said that her clone was not a very good milk producer.

I guess I am really against it but I really don't know enough about it to make an intelligent decision.  If I really understood stem cell research, maybe I would change my mind.
