Monthly Photo Contests / Another twist on the contest
« on: June 27, 2005, 10:04:51 pm »
Hi, I love contests, they are so much fun.  Just as a suggestion, I think the photo contests with the dogs may turn into a costume party only.  What do you think of this idea: we could use other catagories that some dogs excel in without dressing them up.  For example there could be "best water dog" for summer.  Entrants could send in their favorite photo of big dog in the water, sprinkler or lake.  Best Garbage Collector.  Biggest nose.  on and on.  Peggy

OK Coonie, now it is coming up.  What pretty country you live in.  What do they bait it with, things in garbage cans?  Will you hear him go in because I bet the bear will make a huge ruckus when he realizes he is trapped.  Very interesting.  Peggy

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: No Dogs Allowed

I recently took Niki on a leash into a large Mal after reading these posts.  I read all of the entrance doors and there was no sign that dogs were not allowed.  So I went in and wandered around the center where all the benches are and people stroll around. I figured all that could happen was that I get kicked out.  Pretty soon several kids came up and I love to show off so Niki started picking up paper and putting it in the big trash cans by jumping up on them.  I let her loose but the leash was dragging. The kids went crazy and the mom was ready to make me a deal on dog training.  Niki was going through her routine of tricks from hand signals only and this great big security guard came up.  His belly just hung over his tight belted pants and he said "well is that one of "those" dogs".  I said "yes" and he said "well I didn't see a cape on her".  Well she has a cape that says "customer service" and drapes all around her back, so I said "whoops, I forgot it".  He said ok and I figured I better hightail it out before I get kicked out.  So my point is, is it against the law for me to walk in with a cape on her?  I didn't see any law about capes, did you?  People say cheating, I say CHEATING WHAT?

LOL I can just picutre the five of you driving 7 hrs. looking for the turnoff to the Olympic Peninsula like it was a small one that you could drive out onto and fish.  It is about half of the enitre East Coast of Washington.  Yup I was getting ready for the brawl at the dog park, Niks said "it doesn't matter what I do the the $%^^&, I'll never see her again".  I had this funny picture of blood, dirt, dogs, screaming and more, but it never happened.  Thank heavens for good memories.

Wow, I bet I could teach him to work on the ranch.  I just lost a VERY old dog.  Only problem is, we live in California.  We will be in Philadelphia in Sept, however, we are flying on standby so we could not take him with us.  He is just what I am looking for.  I am sure you won't have trouble finding him a home back there.  sad for me :'(

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Any raw feeders on BPO??
« on: June 26, 2005, 11:09:13 am »
I have always fed raw whenever I can.  I mix all sorts of people food along with dry food but I think they like raw best.  We are lucky in that we have a butcher close to us that actually still cuts meat for you.  (his steaks are to die for). Anyway for his good customers, he keeps big beef bones in packets and gives them away for the dogs. I am a big hit when I bring these home.  Niki has a special spot under the tree that she can chew for hours and smile as she goes.

I know that there are a lot of people who spend a great deal of money one particular brand and they will probably throw rocks at me or at least look down their noses.  I buy inexpensive dog food and add to each meal a variety of leftovers as well as different flavors of canned food. I know there are a lot of horrible meat parts and more in inexpensive food but a wild dog eats pretty disgusting stuff too including rotting flesh.   I have watched their reactions to food for many years and am convinced that they, like us, like a variety in their diet. Yes, while watching them, I see they get their greens by occasiionally chewing on grass, then spitting it up.  I do feed raw whenever I can - this is what their stomachs were made for.   I have to say that I feed just like Imogen except for one particular difference.  KANGAROO - wow my dog would love it if I could get it.
I ate it once in a restaurant - tastes like beef, not chicken.
