Patrick, Emma and I have decided to go ahead with acquiring the newest member of our family.

Ms. Fiona Lily was born August 13th (making Friday the thirteenth ever so lucky).  She was one of three pups born- she has two brothers.

This past week I was actually on vacation from work, and we drove out to Ohio to meet her.  Alas, her mommy was unable to produce enough milk, so Fiona and her brothers were moved two and a half hours away from home to another nursing Newf mama, so we were unable to meet her.  We did, however, meet Mommy Jade, and she is absolutely -gorgeous-, and the biggest lovebug to boot.  Heck, Jade took to Patrick so well I thought she was going to try to come home with us.  Heh.   We also got to meet grandma Joey.

Lisa, our breeder, gave us a tour of her facilities, let us play with all of her babies, and really gave us a great feeling about the whole situation.  We know Fiona is coming from a great environment.

Unfortunately for Lisa, she had just lost her first Newf, Mia.  She had passed away on Saturday, and poor Lisa was devastated.  Mia was her life.

Anyhow, we will be taking a trip out to Ohio once again, in approximately six weeks, to bring Fiona fully into our familial fold.

Pictures will be forthcoming!

Thanks for all the support guys!

My Emma is a spoiled one, who gets to travel all the time.  Anytime I have off two days in a row (I work retail, so that only happens once or twice a month now), my fiance, Emma, and I hop into the car and off we go.

Red Roof Inns and Motel 6's (both Accor hotels) will always take pets, so long as it's not prohibited by local law.  With Red Roof Emma has managed to go up and down the eastern seaboard a few times now.  We even got lucky with a Red Roof just one block from the beach (dog friendly on-leash, mind you) in Myrtle Beach- and the room even had a jacuzzi!

It's not nearly as hard as one would think to travel with your babies.

Newfoundland Discussions / Help with Newfies (Manhattan/New York)
« on: June 26, 2005, 09:22:10 pm »
My fiance and I are considering adding a Newfie to our family fold, and I would love some feedback from current Newfie moms and dads.

About us, and our situation...  I (Helen) work full time, and my fiance is a stay at home dad.  Our children are of the four legged variety.  We have a 14 month old Golden Retriever (Emma, the light of our lives), and three kitties (Hannibal, Punkin, and Reilly).  We live in Manhattan, right at Central Park, in a huge, seven room apartment (half of the floor in a prewar building- first floor, so no stairs to mention).

While we don't have a fenced in backyard, per se, we do have the park right there, and we use it quite extensively.  Dogs are allowed off leash every morning before nine am, and after nine pm, so Emma gets a great deal of supervised play time, running around here and there with her friends.  She currently gets about five to six walks per day, with the first in the morning being about 45 minutes to an hour, and at least an hour and a half at night (the off leash stuff).

I am hoping to get some feedback from other Newfie parents regarding how you think (from your experience) a Newfie would blend in with our lives.

I would -love- to hear from other Newfie parents in Manhattan or greater New York City, and if possible, I would love to meet with you and your Newfie.

Oh!  I should mention that we have absolutely no desire to show a pup- we just want a loveable new addition to our family to be spoiled and kissed.   Our new pup would be spayed/neutered when age appropriate.

Please feel free to email me directly at gheilert@yahoo.com

Thanks so much guys!
