Newfoundland Discussions / Reminder: Snail/Slug Bait is POISON
« on: June 13, 2006, 10:41:10 pm »
Today is the one year anniversary of the death of our big, sweet, silly, beautiful boy, Dartagnon, who died tragically from ingesting snail “bait”.

Our hearts are still broken over the loss of Dart.  There are times I can still feel his presence when I’m out in the yard.  His favorite spot was in front of the grill when we’d barbeque.  We called him the Supervisor, making sure we got our dinner grilled just right ;)   After he died we couldn’t go out in the yard for months.  We couldn’t even use our grill until just recently.  Our newly adopted foster dog and new puppy, Solomon and Jackson, have taken over the Supervising duties, so we are now able to grill again.

I want to send a reminder to everyone that snail “bait” containing metaldehyde is POISON and is very lethal to our pets.  If you must, please look for safer alternatives (ie: ferric phosphate).  If you would, please help us by warning others so these types of needless tragedies can be prevented.  Dartagnon, we failed you, we love you always, and we miss you so much.

Introducing Jackson
[/b][/color]Our LOOOONG awaited puppy, Capriccio's Opening Farewell, aka "Jackson", is finally home!  He is a 12 week old buddle of fluffy love.  He is sweet, smart, and full of ENERGY - non stop busy little guy.  He loves water and has discovered all kinds of clever ways to get wet!  I cannot find the words to express how much we love him and how lucky we are!  Lots of pictures and links to videos of him playing with his "big brother" Solomon will follow.  ;D

Hi Newf Lover and Drake!  I don't know who was more excited to meet you both, me or Solomon.  Drake is just too cute!  I couldn't wait to get home and tell my husband about it.  When he asked, "How do know them again?", I said, "Remember the clip of the guy who taught his dog to whisper?"  He remembered, who wouldn't?
Here's another strange coincidental thing: you grew up in Napa and moved to Marin- AND I grew up in Marin (Greenbrae) and moved to Napa!
Well, it was a great surprise and a pleasure to meet you and Drake, and we do look forward to a doggie day/wine tasting adventure (if it ever stops raining!)

Meet & Greet BPOers / Re: Northern California BBQ

Hey, Newf Lover - that's funny- we switched places!  . . . I grew up in Marin and moved to Napa.  I'm originally from Greenbrae.  We moved here (Browns Valley) in 1987 and we have raised our two daughters here (one still goes to Vintage HS).  They of course think it's the most boring place on earth, but I hope someday they'll look back on it and feel the same way you do. ;)

Meet & Greet BPOers / Northern California Get Together Day # 2 ???
« on: July 29, 2005, 01:11:06 pm »
Would anyone be interested in the Sebastiani Winery Canine Festival on Sunday, August 7th in Sonoma?  Doggies are always welcome there, but this is a special event, with all kinds of things planned for people and their pups: contests, dog crafts (paint your own collar), doggie fashion show :o, raffles, photos, microchipping, training demos . . . and of course, wine tasting!  It's actually a 4 day event starting on Thursday.  Here's the link to the flyer with all the information:

and here's the link to Sebastiani Winery:

Maybe most of you already know about this website, but just in case some people don't  . . . It's a great resource for dog friendly places.  You can search by a specific area, or by the type of place you are looking for (ie: hotels, places to eat, parks, beaches, etc.)  Check it out http://www.dogfriendly.com

We will be in the Napa area staying with Newf Lover and are planning on going wine tasting sometime that weekend so maybe we can still meet you there.

Wine tasting sounds like a great idea!  There are several dog friendly wineries in the Napa/Sonoma area, too.  We would be available to do this on Sunday, the 7th while you're up this way.  Anyone else?!

We are going to try to make it, but we are taking our vacation that week and we're returning Saturday the 6th.  Is the plan still to meet at Fort Funston at 7 pm?  It's about an hours drive there from Napa, so we probably won't make it back in time  :(  We would really like to meet everyone and their beautiful big doggies.

OK, we MUST be the LUCKIEST people in the entire world ;D!  Do you remember our sad, sad story about Dartaganon who tragically died from eating snail poison?  We have been so lonely and miserable without our boy.  Our lives feel so empty-no sweet Newfie kisses or "leans" into hugs, no snoring, big black rug next to the bed ...  Well, last night Dartagnon's breeder came to visit with one of her retired champion Newfs.  She is almost 8 years old and the most beautiful, loving, sweetest dog in the world.  Long story short, our breeder has too many dogs, we have None  :'(, we live very close by, and so she asked us if we would want to keep Miss Otis and give her a happy life through her senior years . . . uhhhhhhh, Yah!  So, here she is . . . check out those paws!

Thanks!  I love it, too!  That's our boy, Dart.  Sadly, he is no longer here with us (remember the tragic Snail Poison story?).  I still think about him every minute of the day. :'(

Does anyone know what is the maximum age recommended to allow a "Big Paw" breed(specifically a Newfie) to have puppies?
