Bo has a leather collar.  Somehow, he's been able to tear off and eat all the previous collars...this one seems to be a keeper.

Has anyone been successful at re-training outdoor-only dogs to becoming indoor dogs?

I'm gonna psychoanalyze this one  ;)

As a stepparent, he's FRUSTRATED because his woman's BRAT  can't handle the dog.  Since he wants to keep the woman, he has to find the dog a new home.  Can't find the kid a new home, right??

It's an awful situation and he's probably using a lot of sarcasm to get through what must be torturous for him.

Me, I'd get rid of the broad and keep the pup  ;D

signed,
a knowing stepparent....

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Swollen joints?

Bo, our 80-lb Rottie/Dobie one-year-old has suddenly developed swelling in his "elbows".

Anyone know what this might be?  We have a vet appointment on Saturday.  Isn't he too young for arthritis??

I second the gripe....

The day we went in and found our beloved Bo, we passed 2 mangy dogs about 2 blocks away from the SPCA.  They were just roaming along the sideway, but they were in rough shape (thin, mangy, matted).  Looked like they'd been out and alone a while.  Anyway, as soon as we went in, I told an "officer" what I'd seen and where I'd seen the dogs.  She said she really didn't have time to go picking up stray dogs.

 >:( DO WHAT???

ACK!!  I hate that!  It's why I'm so paranoid about my dogs getting out of the yard.  Bo can be mean and Princess Fiona is small, so she'd probably be eaten.

One time my neighbor called me over to help her break up her dogs that were fighting.  The Akita had the Husky and she would NOT let her go.  I did everything from the water hose to actually hitting the dog with a folded metal chair, but she wouldn't let go until she was good and ready.  The Husky later had to have her leg amputated :-(

Please have your vet check her estrogen levels.

My female (smaller) mix was fixed in August.  A couple of months ago, she went in heat  :o  Yeah, apparently, the vet that fixed her (NOT my vet) left some "stuff" in there.  >:(

Rare Breed Mastiff Discussions / Re: Is a Fila right for my family?
« on: February 08, 2006, 05:30:56 pm »
My thoughts on this....as a mom of 4 kids (15, 13, 7 and 3) I would never bring a large "adult" dog into our family.  I think it's best if the dog grows up with the kids.  You just never know what an adult dog has been through or what may trigger him/her.  If I was childless, I'd have a COMPLETELY different attitude, but with kids you can NEVER take that risk.

In your case, if you really want a fila or a mastiff, I'd get him young.

Actually, my husband built a doghouse for our 2.  Bo is 75lbs and his domain is the ground level.  Since the female dog is smaller (24 lbs), she gets the loft.  Yes, my husband BUILT a two-level doghouse WITH STAIRS and a lift-able roof!!!!  The girl gets her treats upstairs, so Bo can't get at them (greedy boy that he is), but they usually sleep curled up together downstairs.
