Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Underground fence systems
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:55:35 pm »
Thanks Wendy!! Yes I love them being able to run around and get their enegery out!! Then they are so much better inside! I absolutely love your avatar of Daisy! It crakcs me up everytime I see it! ;D

Rachel, I was afraid of the same thing and I can't believe how good it works. We have jackrabbits running around here and the neighbors dogs tease mine but they still won't pass it. If there is something they want to chase they run as far as they can and when they reach the end of the boundary their brakes go on, lol and then they sit there and wine! It's pretty cool!!

We recently got a fence system and it's the best thing ever!! I was going to get Innotek because Wendy said it was the best but Josh didn't want to dig so we got the Pet Safe wireless one. The dogs learned so quick and we have tested it with everything from treats to Justen's puppy and they will not pass the flags!! It gives a warning beep if they get to close to the boundary so they know if they are going to far and it was so easy to set up. They have so much fun running around outside and are much better behaved now!! Here's some pics of them outside.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Aggressive Puppy?
« on: January 16, 2006, 12:10:34 pm »
Hi Everyone!!
I haven't been on in awhile, things have been kinda crazy lately. Anyway my brother got a new puppy. She is a siberian husky and her name is Takara.  She is a little over 8 weeks old now, my brother got her when she was about 6 weeks. I told him that was too young but he didn't care he wanted a puppy so bad. He rents a room from us so this puppy lives with us and he is at work today so I have been watching her. I decided to take them all out at once to go potty which they play together all the time and my dogs do really good with her, they know she is a baby. But then this morning she found their water dish and of course they are sniffing her and she went totally psycho growling at them and it wasn't even food just water and even after that she wouldn't stop growling at them. She did this to me about a week ago, she found one of their bones and really liked it so I took it from her because I was going to bring her inside with it and she totally freaked out and started growling at me. Isn't this a bad sign of agression? I have two daughters and if this puppy is going to be agressive he is not going to be able to keep her here. Since I will be watching her all week I'm wondering what I can do with her to correct this, any suggestions? Here is some pics of her.

Oh Sherry, I am so sorry  for you. I know how much you love Petra and that is so heartbreaking. You gave her the best chance she could have ever had. I can't imagine how hard it's been for you, you are a brave person. Petra is now free from the pain she could not let go of. I'll be thinking of you.  :'(

Neapolitan Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Re: ADVICE @ PETRA??? HELP!
« on: December 11, 2005, 06:16:19 pm »
I am certainly not a neo expert but something I just wanted to add that I have learned in doing research on neos is that they are already guard dogs, it is in their nature and I have read that any further guard dog training done on a neo can be extremely dangerous and should NEVER be done. Just something I though was important.
Good luck in you decision.

I get it a lot with Savannah. She always a chocolate lab or some kind of hound mix, ha ha!

With Neo it's usually just OMG, what kind of dog is that?  :)

I love those cats!! Someday I will have one. Both me and the hubby agree on that.  :)

I know me too!!  ;D  I found that site a couple years ago and have wanted one ever since but I already have two cats.

Okay, I'm a little off topic here, but oh well.

If you would consider a cat, and want a big one, look into the Pixie Bob.  They are huge!  Also in addition to Maine Coons, two other cats very similar are the Norweigan Forest cat and the Siberian.

Just a thought.   :)

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: Question for those who've quit smoking
« on: November 27, 2005, 04:01:03 am »
Well, I tried the patch and it made my skin all hot and itchy so I quit using it which really sucks cuz I was hoping it would work!

Josh tried it too and he had horrible nightmares, so bad that he was scared to go to sleep. That was about four years ago and we are still smoking. Cigarettes suck.

Good luck to Matt, maybe he can do better!
