Rare Breed Mastiff Pictures / Re: This Dogue can Swim

Your Rottie CAN swim! We had to teach ours to swim but it can be done. Kane, who passed away 2 years ago, sunk at first. But, then we physically got in the pool with him and moved his feet for him. He got it!!! You can do it!

Bullmastiff Discussions & Pictures / Re: would like some info
« on: August 15, 2005, 03:58:34 pm »
We have 2 Bullmastiffs in our family. Below is my 2 year old male Talon. Talon is a very nice, calm and loving dog. He exceled at obedience though he is a bit slow at the exersizes. He loves puppies and does not mind other dogs though at the dog park he tend to hang around by himself (he likes the pond). He is totally non aggressive and so mellow that he is now a therapy dog. He's  really nice guy BUT we have been told that he is different from most Bullmastiffs by his breeder and our obedience class trainer.
Now my mom has a Bullmastiff female, Celia, that is COMPLETELY different from Talon. She is 1.5 years and is on the same training path as Talon so there is little difference in their exposure to other dogs and training. She is VERY dog aggressive. She has attacked Talon and our 8 month old puppy several times requiring many visits to the emergency room for the males. She CANNOT be in the same area as the males as she will attack them. At obedience class mom must be VERY careful that she does not get close to another dog as she WILL attack the other dog. She is super hyper and jumps all around. She also barks alot with no reason and eats up the yard and fence.
I just want you to know that you cannot guarantee what you will end up with when your puppy is full grown. Please send me an e-mail and we can talk about this a little more. It's important that you do not end up with a Celia as you will not ever be able to take her out.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Innova Evo for Puppies?
« on: August 15, 2005, 03:45:07 pm »
Check out the website www.greatdanel ady.com. She's got lots of helpful info on feeding a growing giant/large breed puppy. I think the most important thing is to get a quality food that is around 22- 24% protein and 14- 18% fat. And you must watch the calories!! We feed our 2 year old Bullmastiff & 8 month old Dogue de Bordeaux the same food..Innova Large Breed. The puppy is growing at a slow but acceptable rate which is important fro his joints. We also keep him lean.

Rare Breed Mastiff Pictures / This Dogue can Swim
« on: August 15, 2005, 01:27:24 pm »
::)HAwk did his best Baywatch Hawaii impression at the beach yesterday. He runs like a little maniac down the sand then veers off suddenly to swim out into the deep. He just enjoys swimming around, out for a relaxing dip. Just wanted to share these pics and prove that even though he's 100 lbs (@8 Months!) he swims like a little champion!!!

He does shake his head and drool will fly around. It's not as extreme as Hooch (they used whipped egg whites when they shot that film).

Oh He's just being goofy. Like I said before he hates cameras and tries to do everything to sabotage my photos. Glad you like the pics. Are there any other Dogue members yet?

Talon just completed the test to be part of the Pet Visitation program that is run by the humane society here in Hawaii. There were 12 individual mini-exams he went through. You can check them all out at the Delta Society web page. They will even send info to you about getting your dog tested. Try the Delta Society 1st then your local Humane Society. Good luck! And kudos to you for wanting to volunteer.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: I need some advice

Life is very short!!! The aberage person changes careers at least 5 times so don't feel like you are the ONLY one whose a bit lost. I had a great career in radio but did not enjoy all that came with it including having NO ANONIMITY!!!!Being on billboards was fun at first then scarry when I started to acquire stalkers. Now I am a volcanologist who gets to travel to crazy places and surf some really good waves. I quit radio and went back to school to pursue something I really love. If your mate gives great support and you can live a simpler life for some time maybe you could take a couple of classes and see what interests you. You, and only you, can find yourself. Good luck on the journey. And don't worry...life is short.

Hello! Hawk's mommy here. It's hard to take pics of Hawk when he is sitting still. He loathes the camera and will just walk away. I'll get some fun action shots of him swimming at the beach this weekend. Untill then here are some shots of him when he was born until 7 weeks of age. I hope you enjoy!!!

Hi! Hawk's mommy here. Hawk really loathes the camera. If I try to take a shot of him sitting still (so it's not blurry) he will walk away. So, I will get some pics of him swimming at the beach this weekend. When he's busy..no probs takin photos. I thought I would share some pics of him as a baby.
