General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / HELP ALLERGIES!!!!!!!!!
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:02:05 pm »
hey Everyone!

Quick update since it has been soo long since I have been on:
Payton(our skin baby) is 17 months old! WAY harder raising a well trained baby than puppy! lol
Bell is doing wonderful! last I was on we had found out Bell had had a large tumor. We did surgery removed the mass and went through chemo at Auburn. She is doing absolutely wondeful. Her prognosis was poor at first and at her last checkup they have given her years to her life!!!!!!

OK here is my question..... We just found out Payton is VERY allergic to dogs! We currently have 3 ( a 1 yr old pug Lilly, our 5 year old Springer Baxter, and 6 yr old Weim Bell) She isnt soo bad that she needs allergy shots but doesnt need them inside with her  :'(. Dr told me to look out for certian shampoos for dogs because this is something that she could possibly grow out of but also could not.

Does anyone have childern or are they allergic to dog dander and what do yall do to help with it? Payton is currently on Claritin and Zyrtec for pet and seasonal allergies

Ok i have done eveything that everyone has suggested.  We were outside for two and half hours and she finnally peed and pooped twice I brought her back inside and gave her food and water in her crate and she drank water and than peed in her food.

I havent been letting the other dogs train her how to go outside but I know with Buble when he smelled the other dogs go he would go.  It isnt that I am not being proactive just nothing I did to house train our other three successfully is working with Lily.  I hope I am not coming across as being confrntational but I have done everything that I know as a puppy parent to try to housetrain her for the past couple of weeks.

Well after a very long weekend she had one accident in the house and was doinf very well about going outside until today.  We were having snow flurries all day and everytime we would let the pups out they would quickly do their business.  I guess that Lily ( the Pug) didnt really want to stay put outside. so as soon as we went inside she peed and pood in the house.  She also poops in her crate as soon as we put her in it.

Yea this puppy was from a breeder that had the puppies in whelping boxes due to the extreme cold.  So all the puppy has known is to go to the bathroon where she sleeps.

When I got home from work Lily ( the puppy) had gone to the bathroom on her tray in her kennel and pushed it out from underneath it so she wouldnt lay on it.

ok I took her outside this am and nothing and she didnt go in her crate.  I let Baxter out with her thinking that maybe he could show her what to do.  i left them outside and watchd from the door window.  At first all she did was whine and then she peed right in front of the door.

I praised her casue technically it was outside and not in her crate but it wasnt really where I wanted her to go.  Should I praise her for going on the back porch?

I had a feeling it would take longer.  She has a wire crate and i have sectioned it since we have had her.  She now only has room to stand up turn around and lay back down.  I have had to remove all blankets out because she just pees and them and her toys.  We have had her since saturday and she has yet to go to the bathrrom outside.  We have stood outside with her for hours and nothing.  The moment we put her in her crate and walk away she goes.

 Hi guys

I know everyone has been wondering about Bell.  She is doing wonderful.  She had her last radiation and they have very high hopes!!!!  We will find out next week.

I do have a question though.  My mother in law just got a pug puppy.  She is trying to crate train her and it isnt going very well.  The puppy is 11 weeks old and is almost reversed crate trained.

She only goes in her crate.  She will run around the house and go outside for hors and never go but as soon as she is in the crate she goes almost like she has been holding it.

How do we get a hold of it we are having to dog sit for the next couple of months becasue my mother in law had a heart attack and is going to have to have open heart surgery.

Any pointers?

Sorry I couldnt post as much this morning as I wanted to Payton was in my lap insisting on trying to type with Mommy.

Well I called Hubby this morning and Bell is doing great!! she is up and walking around. NO jumping around even though he said that she really wants to when he goes in to see her.  Her cathater comes out today. Disgusting I know.  Her sutures are healing well and she is eating.

She also had a bowel movement yesterday which means everything is working properly.  Thanks everyone for being there for our family.  It is hard to talk to ours. they dont quite understand why we are doing all this for a dog even though she is part of the family.

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Bell is doing well

Bell's surgery went as well as anyone could have hoped.  The doctor believes that they removed all of the tumor and cancerous region of intestine.  She will be coming home on Thursday.

It has been a very hectic couple of days. I have been meanning to get on and post everyone on Bell. But Payton has developed a very bad cough which they thought was RSV but is now a very bad case of Croup. She was rushed to the doctor today due to her wheezing and gasping for air.

If it isnt one thing it is everything else.  But at least everything so far with Bell has gone very well.  They will have her start chemo on next Monday. Thank you everyone for thinking and praying for our family and Bell.  We still have a long ways to go but hopfully it is on the right track. ;)

« on: December 14, 2008, 01:59:28 pm »
Well Bell and Hubby left for Auburn this evening.  I have a really good friend that lives there so she is letting bell and hubs stay there for the next couple of days.

I am so nervous for her surgery. Unfortunatley I have to work since I just got off maternity leave 3 months ago.  Please keep Bell in your thoughts and I will let you know how tomorrow goes.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / A sign of hope!!!!!!!!
« on: December 13, 2008, 03:47:24 am »
Bell got to come home to us this weekend before she goes off to Auburn with Hubby on Monday.   This morning we got up and where she has been very sluggish and lathargic she is a ball of energy this morning,

Payton has a playschool playset with a slide on it and Bell has been going up and down the slide all morning.  Her favorite thing to do.  Maybe this is her telling us not to worry that she will be back to her old tricks in no time.  o I hope so :) :)

OK well we decided that we are doing the surgery and chemo.  Of course we had hoped for a better prognosis but we have to work with what we have and since she would have years of life left it could be will worth it.

And if the surgery doesnt work we will know that we did everything possible to help our first "daughter". We will then let her live out her days as a happy member of the family.

I do want to thank everyone for being so wonderful and supportive through this hard time.  I asked my husband to read all of themto help with our descsion and he couldnt believe how supportive yall were to someone whom you have never even met. Just because we have something in common. The love for our dogs.

We also got approved for care credit yesterday so we can make payments on everything for Bell which does take a load off our shoulders.  Bell goes to Auburn for surgery on Monday and will come home and start chemo after probably a couple of days of recovery.

Thank you so much everyone for your advice. All of it has been taken to heart.

The vet from Auburn called us today. He feels she has a 50/50 chance. If she does all the surgery and the chemo and does well than we are looking at maybe 5 more years with her.

unfortunately he hasn't seen a lot of good outcomes from this type of cancer. But he did say that Bell is the youngest dog he has ever seen with this. so he said that could work in our favor.

we still have a lot to think about and discuss. today has just been a bad and very hard day.

ok well Bell has to go to Auburn.  She has cancer of her small intestine.  Almost 1/3 of her smal intestine is cancerous. :'( :'( :'( This is why she was losing so much weight.

She weighed 95lbs in October and now is at 68lbs. poor girl. We are tossing back and forth what to do.  She needs radiation treatments and surgery to remove the cancerous portion of intestine.

My husband is worried.  We have a 5 month old baby and alot of bills.  But I told him that I want Payton to grow up learning that you do whatever you can to save your pet.

He is also worried that we go through with everything and she dies anyways and is miserable and sick the whole time.  Does anyone have any advice I really need some.

They gave her 6 months to 1 year with weight gain.  which will be very hard to do.  She is her same energetic self at 3 years old.  Do we jus tlet her live out her days happy and being loved evertday or do we try to make her better.  The vet wasnt sure of a prognosis becasue there have only been of known success rates but that doesnt mean their arent.

Any advice I would like anything please!!!!
