We got Honey a few months ago as a 'girlfriend' for Chopper. Unfortunatly Honey runs the show and Chopper, at twice her size, is a big sissie. LOL. Getting a second dog was the best thing ever (most of the time).  Chopper never has a problem with chewing on anything since Honey moved in but Honey is like a little doggie wood chipper, which brings me to the question what would be good for her to chew that will be hard for her to shred.  I got her a ham bone the other day and she had it gone in 45 minutes.

First I would like to thank everyone who supported me after my Honey got booted.  I never intended to cause any conflict and I'm sorry that I did.
Doggylover - I highly recommend the next time that poor basset comes into your yard you take it to your local Humane Society and after the owner does not retrieve him, which I'm guessing he won't, then you or another nice person will adopt him.  But on the downside buttholes like that will probably just get a new dog to abuse. :'(  I will never understand why people like that even want a dog. ???

Too funny!!!  Glad my dog isn't the only one who LOVES drinking out of the toilet.  Anytime you use the toilet at our house Chopper is right there with you like he's so thirsty he can't wait for you to get off and it's his own personal bowl.

First let me clarify - I was not letting the dogs play in their yard.  I was attempting to get them out as soon as they went into her yard.  My dogs are hardly ever off leash and I respect her not wanting the dogs in her yard.  And if my house was on fire they would not save my dogs as a matter of fact I'm not sure she would even call 911.  I am a very easy person to get along with and this women going off was not even about the dogs they just gave her a excuse.  We had another Collie who disppeared over a year ago and I think they had something to with it.  Ollie disappeared right after someone turned them in to the Humane Society for neglecting their dog.  I believe they think I called.  And the husband has made comments about shooting dogs when they don't work out for him.

Let me set the scene... 5 years ago we moved into a semi rural neighborhood.  We wanted privacy but could not afford any acerage so we picked a house on a small street with only 3 houses on it.  We pretty much stay to ourselves and live and let live.  And two years later the neighbors from h*ll moved right next door.  I have ignored these people and their ignorance for pretty much 3 years until Saturday.  My friend brought her dog over and we let the dogs off leash to play.  Well they went into the neighbors yard and the woman came out and told us to get the dogs off of her property.  I said OK and rolled my eyes.  Well appearently my voice tone was not to her liking and she started going off on me.  I pretty much told her to F-off and tried to get the dogs back in the house.  I obviously was not moving fast enough for her and she proceeded to kick one of my dogs.  To make long story short I got about two inches from her face and told her if she lifts a foot to my dog again my baseball bat and her face would be having a meeting and few other choice words.  After we got the dogs in the house I did get a little immature and told her to take her fat #$Q back in the house.  She said her $%@ in no fatter than mine (it soooo is,  I'm about a size 9 and she is about a 14, not that I have an issue with anyones weight but you mess with me and my dogs I will throw anything in your face I can)  I then had to remind her I've seen her in a bikini and it wasn't pretty.  Any way now I cannot let my dogs off leash and I have to worry everytime one of the kids opens a door that they may let a dog out.  A fence is not an option. Anyone have any suggestions for a run?  And before anyone says I should have clocked her which I very much wanted to, I work in healthcare and an assult charge would put my job in jepordy.

Don't you love it when your dog plays that game with you?  I am so jealous when I see dogs that come when their people call them or dogs that follow their people off leash and don't run away.  But when I voiced that to my husband he said if I wanted a dog like that I should have gotten a lab!

Since y'all reminded me about it, I was googling around; there's a webring at http://u.webring.com/hub?ring=abreedersratring where you can check out online breeders, info about rats as pets, etc.

I think your son will LOVE to have rats, but beware:  they are very affectionate and sweet, and his sisters will fall in love very quickly.

Here's another really good rat site--it's from the UK, but it's very informative about the rat fancy and different kinds of rats.  Lots and lots of info, pics, etc.

We got 2 rats and yes his sisters fell in love with them so now I need to get another one on the way home from work so they each have their own.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  I am leaning towards at GP or rat.  I'm thinking if I get a rat then maybe my girls won't be to interested in it and then it could be all his.  They were fighting this morning about what kind of animal to get and I really want it to be his pet and I don't want to be unfair to the girls but I think he needs one of his own.  One more question, probably a dumb one but...  I know you never get a dog from a pet store but can you get a GP or rat there and if not where do you go?
